Russian Next-Gen 100-Ton Nuclear Missile Could Be Test-Fired By 2017, Says Russian News Wire
Russia’s Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile is set for a drop test this year and a test launch within a year and a half of the drop test, Russian defense sources told ITAR-TASS on Thursday. The new missile is set to replace the Cold-War era R-36 missile, nicknamed “SS-18 Satan” by NATO, which is still the world’s largest intercontinental ballistic missile ever made.

Russian technicians will conduct a “drop test” at some point this year to measure the missile’s lift and proper evolution through its launch stages before they conduct a full test launch, provided the missile performs. The missile is expected to enter service in 2020.

The Sarmat could deliver up to 10 heavy nuclear warheads or 15 medium warheads at targets up to 6,200 miles away, according to the Nuclear Threat Initiative. The missile would carry the warheads into suborbital flight, at which point they would separate and hit independent targets. It can reportedly “flying over the North and South Poles” and “would be capable of overcoming almost any missile defense system,” according to Pravda.

While the U.S. and Russia made strides in nuclear missile reductions following the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, the major treaties signed like the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons do not prevent nuclear states from replacing or upgrading their arsenals. START set a total limit for the number of warheads each state can have and the NPT forbids states from spreading weapons technologies to other, non-recognized nuclear states.

The U.S. has plans to keep their Minuteman III ballistic missiles in service through 2030 with a series of upgrades, but the Air Force has voiced it wants to develop a new system. Both the Sarmat and its Satan predecessor are more powerful than the Minuteman. The Air Force has awarded contractors upward of $50 million to develop new guidance systems and other upgrades to the Minuteman III, according to the Great Falls Tribune.

Earlier this week, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Ragozin claimed that the U.S. could not defend against Russia’s nuclear arsenal, although he did not specify what missile technology he was referring to.

I think this loose nuclear talk is the surest sign of decay of Russia. With this policy there is only one direction they are going and that is not good one. Russia is running out of money and with the little money they got, they design these and build new bomber planes....meanwhile the civilian infrastructure is years behind even Baltics and decades behind EU.

Sadly I agree with you...blaming "the west" and threatning nukes seems eerily similar to how P0rkistanis behave here in the subcontinent .... I mean yeah the west is your opponent , but they are just doing their job as opponents. You should do yours.

Opponent and opponent.... EU is a sign of evolution. For centuries European nation states were on each others throats. Now they are in a same Union. I wonder when we see the same development in Asia.

Which states do you have in mind??
The only union possible here is between Non-Muslim states. i.e. India-Burma-Nepal-Bhutan etc. No muslims will be allowed as Islam and Christianity are destructive faiths.

That is very much unlikely till a country like Pakistan is present on the map of Asia. So IMO you won't see such a development in the near future.

Only if we are subsequently allowed to plunder Europe for 200 years, destroy all their universities , obtain all their patents, disassemble all their Factories and able to inflict at least 30 famines.... That should sweeten the deal enough.
What do you say?

If in the ancient times India was the ruler of the south and Finnish Kingdom was the ruler of the north, then why not EU and India form a strategic partnership? We give our blessing....

In protest, I decline your offer of converting to Protestanism, and offer you a once in a lifetime opportunity to embrace the one true faith called Hinduism. This is the only way to escape the cycle of birth, rebirth, and misery.

Ok, this was said in jest. Do whatever you want, but you should read ancient Indian texts. They offer a lot of wisdom, just like texts from antiquity from other parts of the world, such as Greece, Mesopotamia, etc..

But seriously got to maintain some distinction.

Should just make India so strong that they cannot, even in their dreams, imagine, casting an evil eye. And that would allow India to interfere in internal affairs of these silly people to protect PIO interests.

I think this is something Russia will design but produce in very limited numbers. Another possibility is to simply make a lot of noise that the US can be attacked from all directions, even from around the South Pole.

The idea is to provoke the US to set up more Missile Defence Shields all over the world, thus pushing the US towards more military spending and geographical over-reach. I don't think many of us have missed that the US has been vastly weakened after the numerous wars it has fought in recent decades.

One of the prime requirements coming from Hindu understanding as also upheld in folklore and puraans is that incompetent people should never be told about what is precious. Our longevity is due to our unique cultural strength. Why should that be handed over to foreigners.

What conclusions can possibly be drawn from the failures of the do-good-buddhist-expansions some centuries back?

Every body is driven by his own nature/swabhav.
