ISIS Fighters Deserting After Russia Nails Them With 60 Sorties in 72 Hours
The fact that the US couldn’t do this for a full year is yet more proof they didn’t really want to

(Zerohedge) | Russia Insider

Not really trying

One question that’s been asked repeatedly over the past thirteen months is why Washington has been unable to achieve the Pentagon’s stated goal of “degrading and defeating” ISIS despite the fact that the “battle” pits the most advanced air force on the planet against what amounts to a ragtag band of militants running around the desert in basketball shoes.

Those of a skeptical persuasion have been inclined to suggest that perhaps the US isn’t fully committed to the fight. Explanations for that suggestion range from the mainstream (the White House is loathe to get the US into another Mid-East war) to the “conspiratorial” (the CIA created ISIS and thus doesn’t want to destroy the group due to its value as a strategic asset).

The implication in all of this is that a modern army that was truly determined to destroy the group could likely do so in a matter of months if not weeks and so once Russia began flying sorties from Latakia, the world was anxious to see just how long the various rebel groups operating in Syria could hold up under bombardment by the Russian air force.

The answer, apparently, is “less than a week.”

On Saturday, the Russian Ministry of Defense said it has conducted 60 bombing runs in 72 hours, hitting more than 50 ISIS targets.

According to the ministry (Facebook page is here), Islamic State fighters are in a state of “panic” and more than 600 have deserted.

Here's what happens when the Russians locate a terrorist “command center”:

According to The Kremlin, the structure shown in the video is (or, more appropriately, “was”) “an ISIS hardened command centre near Raqqah.” Su-34s hit it with concrete-piercing BETAB-500s setting off a series of explosions and fires that “completely destroyed the object.”

Here's RT:

Surgical airstrikes by Russian fighter jets have knocked out a number of Islamic State installations in Syria, including the battle headquarters of a jihadist group near Raqqa, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

“Over the past 24 hours, Sukhoi Su-34 and Su-24M fighter jets have performed 20 sorties and hit nine Islamic State installations,” Igor Konashenkov, Russia’s Defense Ministry spokesman, reported.

Konashenkov added that yesterday evening Russian aircraft went on six sorties, inflicting strikes on three terrorist installations.

“A bunker-busting BETAB-500 air bomb dropped from a Sukhoi Su-34 bomber near Raqqa has eliminated the command post of one of the terror groups, together with an underground storage facility for explosives and munitions,” the spokesman said.

Commenting on the video filmed by a Russian UAV monitoring the assault near Raqqa, Konashenkov noted, “a powerful explosion inside the bunker indicates it was also used for storing a large quantity of munitions.

“As you can see, a direct hit on the installation resulted in the detonation of explosives and multiple fires. It was completely demolished,” the spokesman said.

And here's the Russian Defense Ministry taking a page out of the US Postal Service's “neither rain, sleet, snow, nor hail” book on the way to serving notice that nothing is going to stop the Russian air force from exterminating Assad's enemies in Syria:

Twenty-four hours a day #UAV's are monitoring the situation in the ISIS activity areas. All the detected targets are effectively engaged day and night in any weather conditions.

Now obviously one must consider the source here, but Kremlin spin tactics aside, one cannot help but be amazed with the pace at which this is apparently unfolding. If any of the above is even close to accurate, it means that Russia is on schedule to declare victory over ISIS (and everyone else it looks like) in a matter of weeks, which would not only be extremely embarrassing for Washington, but would also effectively prove that the US has never truly embarked on an honest effort to rid Syria of the extremist groups the Western media claims are the scourge of humanity.

Summed up in 10 priceless seconds…

I am really confused by all these undisputed clips, photos and news reports of the lastest act of Russian military aggression. Something has gone awry in the Kremlin.
Over the last couple of years we haven been repeatedly told that the Russian military are normally far more sinister, they make their wars in a 'hybrid' almost invisible fashion;
they cleverly disguise their invasions of another country as "troop movements within their own borders",
they are so good at it that sometimes whole tank columns in Ukraine are even camouflaged to look like they are moving around Georgia seven years ago,
they cleverly hide their submarines in Swedish waters by placing them nowhere near Sweden at the time,
they constantly invade UK and Baltic airspace by using holograms to make it look as if they are actually in the international airspace,
they can do the same with ships allowing them to brazenly sail through the English Channel as if it was some kind of international seaway,
they are so good at hiding from satellites that we must rely on social media photos and keen eyed 'journalist-scouts', but even then the photos will be grainy and the journos cameras will suddenly malfunction due to Russian wizardry.

But this time around we can scream it out loud - Gotcha Putin !
You have got planes in Syria and you are bombing terrorists, you evil son-of-a-b !
We have irrefutable proof and what's more - you can't even be bothered to deny it !!!

Brilliant Explanation of US Foreign Policy and What Went Down at the UN
“Listening to Barack Hussein Obama’s speech at the United Nations was one of the most nauseating experiences I have ever had, and it ought to have been accompanied by a health warning”

“Rarely have I ever witnessed a more deluded individual manage to turn the world on its head, painting a picture of US foreign policy that is utterly divorced from the tragic reality”

Possibly the worst President ever

This article originally appeared at the author’s excellent blog

Imagine a kid at school. An intimidating kid he is, packing a lot of muscle, used to getting his own way, and with no scruples about bullying other kids that stand in his way.

His goal is to get everyone to acknowledge his authority and leadership over them, and he’s not afraid to use any number of tactics to make this happen.

Sometimes he humiliates them. Sometimes he arm-twists them. Sometimes he threatens to take their money. Sometimes he gets other kids to fight his battles for him, promising them all sorts of perks. Sometimes he even tortures some folks, if need be. And if he sees anyone standing in his way, he has no hesitation in demonising them, making up all sorts of stories up about them, turning some of the other kids against them, before going in with his gang to sort them out.

Cut to another scene and the same kid is standing up in front of the whole school giving a speech. He starts by talking of the need to solve disputes using diplomacy. He speaks about the need to stand up to what he calls “strongmen” in the school. He berates some of the bigger boys for asserting themselves in ways that contravene the rules of the school. He speaks about spreading peace and moving away from what he calls the “old ways of conflict and coercion”.

Warming to his theme he says that force alone cannot impose order, but he also mentions that of course he possesses massive force and will use it if necessary. He talks about the history of the school over the past few years, telling his audience about all the bad guys out there and what they’ve been up to. He’s careful not to mention his own part in it though, but he does manage to praise himself for the great job he’s been doing of keeping order.

He moves on to talk about the importance of respecting the rules and then singles out one of the other boys in particular for breaking them, and for being a big bad bully. He acknowledges his own part in the case of Libby, who he put on a life support machine, but only to say that it was necessary for something to be done about her. He then admits that we (notice the “we”) perhaps could have done more to help her rehabilitation, and that “we” will have to do more to help in the rehabilitation of those who get hospitalized in the future.

He finishes by lamenting the plight of all the poor and weak kids in the class, including some that he has hospitalized in the past, speaking about their dignity and how “we” should all work together for a brighter future. For those who swear unswerving loyalty, his speech is welcomed as putting all the trouble makers in the school in their place. Others sit there scratching their heads, wondering whether they are going mad or did they just hear the school bully paint himself as an angel of light bringing freedom and peace to the school?

A few minutes later, along comes another boy with a speech – the boy he accused of being a big bad bully – and in one sentence – “Do you realise what you have done?” – sticks a pin in the big fat hubris-filled balloon of the school’s chief bully and exporter of chaos.

Listening to Barack Hussein Obama’s speech at the United Nations was one of the most nauseating experiences I have ever had, and it ought to have been accompanied by a health warning. Rarely have I ever witnessed a more deluded individual manage to turn the world on its head, painting a picture of US foreign policy that is utterly divorced from the tragic reality.

Yet, sad as that may have been, even more astonishing is the fact that events since then – which have moved at breakneck speed – have shown that the man has learnt not even an ounce of humility from the Emperor’s New Clothes treatment he got from Vladimir Putin. On the contrary he seems set on continuing in his ways.

With the agenda exposed like never before, and with their Middle East policy lying in ruins, you might have thought there’d be some sort of contrition and even radio silence from Washington and its global media outlets. Not a bit of it. No sooner had Russian planes got off the ground (perhaps even sooner), at the request of the Government of Syria, we were told that 33 civilians had been killed, including children, and that Russia was not targeting ISIS but the US-trained rebels.

I reserved judgement for a while. In these days of reckless propaganda, unverified claims and trial by social media, it is right to be cautious, especially when the alleged incident is so horrible. Nevertheless, my first thought was that it was mighty quick of the western media to tell us how many civilians and children died literally minutes after an airstrike in a warzone. All the more remarkable since they seem to have been unable to tell us this sort of thing when it has happened because of Saudi Arabia’s bombing campaign against Yemen.

But it didn’t take long for the claim to be shown to be false. A Tweet put out by the White Helmets organization, apparently showing a picture of a man carrying a dead child out of rubble after Russian airstrikes, turned out to be a fake, the picture having been taken several days prior to the Russian action. [Commentary: This is where you pause for a chuckle.]

What about the claim of Russia targeting US-backed “rebels” rather than ISIS targets? The first question that springs to mind is this: Since the US and its allies seem to be so clear about which targets the Russian planes have been hitting, and since they are so clear that they are not hitting the right targets, presumably they must have the military intelligence to know where the “right” targets actually are. In which case, what exactly have they been doing out there for the last year? [Commentary: This is where you pause for a chuckle.]

A couple of answers to that question spring to mind. Firstly, they’ve been violating the sovereignty of a nation that never gave them permission to be there. And I must say that the nausea generated by Barack Obama’s UN address is matched only by the nausea generated in the last year upon hearing these globalists, these neo-Trotskyite world revolutionaries, who despise the idea of national sovereignty, berating Russia over its alleged violations of sovereignty.

The other answer to the question of what they have been doing for the last year is not very much at all. Target practice in the desert maybe, but that’s about all. They certainly haven’t been tackling ISIS, for the simple reason that they need ISIS to serve their real purpose, which is the removal of the Syrian Government.

Their claim that Russia has been targeting “moderate” Syrian rebels is especially absurd. Less than a month ago, General Lloyd Austin, Commander of US Central Command, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that so far, the US had trained four or five “moderate” Syrian rebels to take on ISIS. You heard that right. Not four or five thousand. Not even four or five hundred. No, just four or five. Less than ten in other words. But apparently the Russians have now been targeting them. All four or five of them! [Commentary: This is where you pause for a chuckle.]

Or could it be that the “moderate” Syrian rebels that that the Russians have been targeting are the ones that were trained via a covert CIA programme since at least 2012? Very probably, but if so Russia’s actions have further exposed the diabolical US policy for what it really is, since most of these “moderates” are known to have ended up either in ISIS, or in groups like the al-Nusra Front (or al-Qaeda in Syria as they are also known).

So when Barack Obama said in his address that “we have demonstrated over more than a decade of relentless pursuit of al-Qaeda, we will not be outlasted by extremists”, would he care to explain how it is that days after he said this, we are now meant to be lamenting the fact that the Russians have apparently been targeting not just ISIS, but also groups like the al-Nusra Front, a.k.a. al-Qaeda in Syria? Our allies, huh?

Back in the days of the Soviet Union, the most potent weapon the West had against the tyranny of communism was simply to tell the truth about it. No need to lie, though of course there was a lot of that going on too. The Soviet Union, by contrast, needed its Pravda to feed people with lies and distortions.

Today the boot is firmly on the other foot. The western complaint about Russian lies and propaganda utterly misses this simple point: the most potent weapon Russia has against the tyranny of US neo-Trotskyist globalism is not to lie about it, but to simply tell the truth about it.

This is why at the UN, Putin’s Pin was so successful in bursting Barack’s Balloon. He didn’t need to lie to make the point. Rather he simply told the truth about what they had done, and the effect was powerful.

Yet far from backing down, the West is now cranking up the lie machine to maximum volume. It won’t end well. Their lies are now finding them out, and there is only so much lying to cover up lying to cover up lying you can get away with before your whole narrative collapses in upon itself.

As for the foreign policy pursued by the United States and its allies for the past couple of decades, it has been weighed in the balances, and has been found wanting.

Classic: Putin Asks West to Explain Difference Between ‘Moderate’ and ‘Immoderate’ Armed Groups [Cue Cricket Chirps]
…And still waiting for an answer

Rudy Panko | Russia Insider

Troll of the Year

If you’ve turned on a western television in the last 48 hours, you are probably well aware that Syria is overflowing with democracy-loving, secular vegans who are being massacred by the evil Russian empire. Vladimir Putin is very interested in these tofu-guzzling hippies, and so he decided to ask his Germany and French partners about them. Via SkyNews:

President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman said that Russia’s Western partners had failed to explain the term “moderate opposition” as monitors claimed that Russian jets had bombed two Syrian villages, killing one person.

Putin, who met the leaders of France and Germany in Paris on Friday, had “expressed a lively interest in the subject and asked what the difference between the moderate opposition and the immoderate opposition is,” Dmitry Peskov said on television on Saturday.

“So far, no one really has managed to explain what the moderate opposition is.”

Sometimes Putin is a little bit cruel.

Hey! If a Russian ministry of the freely and fairly elected Russian government says so, it must be so. Lets absolutely not question anything that comes from a completely non-propaganda Russian source. Russia is going to win against ISIS in just a few weeks and become the first nation to win a war by using air-power alone and that too using less air-power than a single US CBG let alone its bomber fleets that have been doing bombing runs since more than a year. ISAF should hand over Afghanistan to the glorious command of Comrade Putin and see Taliban decimated with...........oh wait.

Russia’s Target in Syria: The Axis of NATO and Radical Jihad
(Oriental Review) | Russia Insider

Obama with key advisors during his first term

This article originally appeared in the excellent Oriental Review.

The media frenzy in the countries of the anti-Assad coalition over the Russian air strikes on Al-Qaeda-linked guerrillas in Syria has made one very significant fact quite clear. Along with the nervous reaction of the US, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and some other countries it is irrefutable proof that the interests of seemingly opposing forces – NATO and radical jihadism – are actually tightly intertwined. And their relations go far beyond the Syrian crisis.

Ultimately it makes no practical sense to differentiate Daesh and Jabhat Al Nusra merely on the basis of the fact that those extremist groups differ about the manner in which it is necessary to kill infidels. If Jabhat Al Nusra enjoys the confidence of some US senators, then the real problem might be the educational level of those senators (try to disconnect Senator McCain from his handlers and speechwriters and you will quickly see what kind of person he really is). Once again: Daesh and Jabhat Al Nusra are cut from the same cloth. And we should agree yet before acting: when determining military targets, all decisions must be based specifically on military considerations and situation on the ground and not on American vision of the future of “democracy in Syria.”

The military disposition in Syria is crystal clear. Primarily, blockade of the cities of Homs and Hama should be lifted and direct land route from Damascus to the Turkish border to be put under control of pro-government forces. The first strikes of the Russian AF were dispatched precisely in that direction.

In recent months, the terrorist groups in Syria were moving towards the sites of actual or planned air bases of the Syrian army. All major combat operations have now been moved to the Hama Governorate where Jabhat Al Nusra is particularly active. Thus the starting Syrian army counter-offensive in that area is strongly supported by the Russian AF. Moreover, the Syrian 4th Armored Division has just received T-90 tanks as well as BTR-80 and GAZ Tigr armored vehicles from Russia. Once operation is completed there, Syrian regains control over all ports and military air bases.

The counter-offensive near Hama will very quickly make it possible to figure out whether the plans to drive Jabhat Al Nusra into the desert are workable. That might not be consistent with the stated goal of battling Daesh, but in the field everyone understands that it is not possible to expel Islamists into the desert without lifting the blockades on the currently fortified regions. They have been – and remain – prime targets of the Russian air wings.

American and Saudi concerns have certainly nothing to do with the alleged civilian deaths from air strikes. The fact is that the billions spent by the royal family of Saudi Arabia, the CIA, and other agents in their attempts to oust Bashar al-Assad have literally been tossed away into the sand.

Following are a few facts to support this:

Hussein al-Ramahi, the head of the political commission of Hezbollah brigades in Iraq, has repeatedly asserted that the boxes of weapons and ammunition seized from Daesh have markings proving that they belong to Saudi Arabia.

Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri, the deputy chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces, was stating that US armed forces have been supplying Daesh troops with weapons and uniforms ever since the coalition was created.

During the battles for the Syrian city of Kobani, Iraqi and Syrian Kurds also claimed that they were in possession of video evidence proving that the Turks are assisting the Islamists by moving arms and ammunition through a security checkpoint on the Syrian-Turkish border and are even providing troops to reinforce Daesh divisions.

And in regard to the intrigues concocted by the monarchies, the US, and Turkey, I believe that the Islamists being bombed by Russia will actually soon be supplied with more up-to-date weaponry. I will not be surprised if the militants turn out to have not only portable air-defense systems, but also some that are only more or less portable. What’s more, these supplies will be delivered directly from Turkey.

No doubt that the Western intelligence agencies have already ordered their sponsored cells to elaborate resonant terrorist attacks against Russian interests worldwide. This shameless tactics will bring no other result but persuading everyone still hesitating about the real masters of ‘Caliphate Project’ that the black Daesh/Al_Qaeda banner is being knit far outside the Muslim world.

Firstly, I cannot confirm what the Russian Ministry of Defence said, but unlike the State Department, the Russian Ministry of Defence does not have a track record of lying. So, I will take that as an unconfirmed report less likely to be a deliberate lie.

Secondly, ISIS is actually in a state of panic. They are being bombed now because it is Russia who is doing the bombing. NATO, on the other hand, manages to kill tens of thousands of civilians, but cannot target ISIS for more than a year after they took control of US made armoured vehicles including at least one Abrams tank? What does a country with a defence budget more than the next several countries combined have to show? So, yes, Russia is going to win against ISIS, because it actually intends to target ISIS, and also the Free Syrian Army, of which four or five members were trained by the US - yes, four or five.

Thirdly, the Soviet Union actually managed to Europeanize Afghanistan. Afghan women would wear western clothes. Today, after American "democracy," Afghan women are back under the veil. So, yes, comrades were much better, in my opinion.

The Russians are jumping the gun if they are claiming that a couple of days bombing have put the ISIS in panic, than that would be the furthest away from the truth.

Experience has shown that unless there is a co ordinated ground offensive along with air strikes, the capabilities of the enemy are not severely degraded.

This is a campaign of propaganda on both the sides, and at this moment the Russians have the upper hand. It remains to be seen if they can sustain the effort. Parallels can be drawn when during the break up of Yugoslavia the Russian had marched into Serbia but could not sustain their troops and had to go back.

Lol, Moderate and extremes are like a rain, if it rains and no one realises then its moderate, but if it floods then its not moderate, Seems that does apply in Syria.
With Russians entering in Syria, the "allies" have to be very specific who they target, they cannot target the Syrian govt units under the guise of hitting terrorists.
I would be personally be interested in Su-30 SM vs Rafale duel if there be..

The ground part of the operation will be, but not ISIS. Russian aircraft bombed by terrorists on behalf of Assad. For him, all the terrorists who are against his power. Therefore, the Syrian army, under the guise of Russian aircraft, go on the offensive in the FSA.

Russia has made it clear to the world that , they are against ISIS. But this move by Russia has exposed the so called moderate powers, like US, Saudi and NATO , this is what Russia will say. How the US and others manage to counter Russia in Syria thus taking the world opinion on their favour will be tongue twisting job now.
