True, but then production line of F-35 stabilised long.
It is only now that SU 57 production has been cleared, but without India and China order, it is unlikely that Russia will be able to repeat the Su-30 feat.
`I believe what Russians achieved with Su-27/Su-30 was one off and will never be repeated again in history.
The geopolitical situation was just ripe that Su-27/Su-30 was accepted by all major non-NATO/non-US allied air-forces.
All major AF either have their own program 4.5th/5th gen/6th gen program or are collaborating in such program.
Hence I doubt Russians could ever repeat the feat that they achieved with Su-27/Su-35.

The Su-57 could have been a contender against the US for the 5th gen category, but it is pretty much clear that Russian industries and specifically electronics(which is what really matters for 5th gen) will never match the US for atleast decades.

The only real contender to the US is China now.

The Russians blew it when they didn't listen to IAF's suggestions or accept their demands. They basically told IAF to fuck off and IAF did. It could have been a very fruitful relationship but for some reasons the Russians got arrogant.

Su-30 is the last Russian plane that India will buy. After this, everything will be Indian made. Only exception is the naval fighter and the Rafale but that is an exception. IAF needs to see the writing on the wall. Their fleet must be Indian made one way or the other because it means that IAF will customize the plane to its desired needs and be able to pay for it

As far as I understand, this has been a habit of the Russians whenever we make deals with them.

>Su-57, but they won't listen to our demands despite being one of the top funders of the program
>T-90, but they give us electronics so bad that we have to install our own
>Buy MiG-25s, but they won't let us service the engines of our own purchase, nor share the knowledge

It's very crappy. I am glad the IAF told the Russians to "fuck off" when the Russians tried to play hardball, homegrown fighters would be much, MUCH better for our economy, security and expertise for sure. I think the Tejas Mk1 suffered so many delays because there just wasn't an industry to support the aircraft. Everything started from scratch.

I believe that when the Mk2 and AMCA comes online, there won't be a Russian fighter around to even challenge us. Su-57 failed, Su-75 will fail, and the world will watch as Russian fighters can never even break the 4th gen mark, forget 4.5 and 5th gen.

With established insitutions, perhaps the Tejas Mk2, etc will find themselves being developed MUCH faster.

This has been Russian mentality for every deal we made with them
  1. INS Vikramadatya
  2. T-90
  3. Su-57/FGFA
  4. Su-30
  5. Brahmos
  6. AK-203
Russians treat us as cash cow and try to milk us to the fullest extent. They are supported by our import lobby.
Russians want us to be dependent on them for eternity.

So do the French. Look at the price we paid for the Mirage upgrade. Almost $50 million dollar per plane. They charge us a dime and nickel if we want to adjust or change the parameters on the Scorpene subs. The Rafale are priced nearly $300 million a plane.

French and Russians are the same. American is different but it comes with a different set of baggage. India needs stop importing weapons from abroad and make their own from planes to subs from tanks to carriers and helicopters.

French too, but their quality of equipment is definitely better than Russia(example Rafale). As you said, we have to push for home-grown products, to finally end these types of circumstances, make a total domestic military industrial complex and instead start exporting to Middle-East/Asian/Latin American markets.

eh they may be vanilla but they can be hangar queens and maintenance extensive. Recall the early 2000s where almost 3/4 of Mirages were out of commissions due to lack of spares because of costs.

China is an utter joke. Bitch please. Their junk couldn't even detect brahmos. Russian avionics are aging as they don't have the manpower they used to have during the USSR, but they are still a threat.

All arms purchases are expensive.
Western tech is far more advanced and sophisticated than Russian tech hence they can expect premium on that.
Western equipment also has superior quality and availability compared to Russian equipment.
What I like about West is that they mention all pricing up front and generally don't change the pricing once contract is signed.
Russians have habit of changing the terms of contract post signing.
Russian modus operandi is sell initial item for cheap and facilitate the sale by bribing proper individual through import lobby.
Once original item is sold Russians try to milk us on spares or changing ToT terms.

Ha ha ha. You forget so easily on western sheningans. Turkey never got their money back after Americans kicked them out of the F-35 program. US held Pakistan money for a long time with respect to F-16 until the Afghanistan War.

The French did not give Russia the Mistral ships and did not give the money back to Russia directly. Russia had to figure out a creative way to get their money back.

What about that Augusta helicopter fiasco? Bofors scandal etc. They are all the same. We need to make our own products in India.

Not true.
T-90 we do import barrel, engine, ERA, countermeasure systems, etc.
Su-30 we do import a lot from screws to single crystal blades to different avionics to sensors and actuators.
Brahmos we import warhead, booster, seeker and guidance computer (until recently), fuel injection system, etc.
AK-203 we have barrel issue.

There are still Indian parts to several. Not fully an Indian project but still greater than anything the west is willing to offer in terms of make in india

Blogger Fighterbomber told interesting details of the rescue of Su-34 pilots shot down near Kupyansk
September 27, 2022
24

On September 24, near the city of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region, on the retreat from the target destroyed as a result of the bombing in the "gray zone", a Su-34 of the Russian Aerospace Forces was shot down. The well-informed blogger Fighterbomber informed the public about this, citing interesting details of the recent rescue of Russian pilots during the NWO in Ukraine.

He noted that the crew was the most ordinary. The pilot was "Starley Petrukha", and the navigator was "Major Nikolaich". Immediately after hitting the plane, control failed. The bomber began to fall, and the crew experienced serious overloads, but the guys managed to eject.

The last thing the pilot noticed when leaving the cockpit was a height of 25 meters and the ground above his head. Two seconds later, the earth hit my legs with all its might, and the navigator's parachute dome went out nearby. Alive. Only something right hand for some reason does not rise. But it doesn't hurt. And that's all (the arm is broken in two places). He unfastened the suspension, looks, 10 meters away, Nikolaich lies motionless - he crawled: unconscious, but moving a little. Unfastened it too

- the blogger reports the details.

The pilot realized that there was very little time, since at any moment an enemy could appear who saw the opening of parachutes. Therefore, "Petrukha" grabbed the navigator and dragged him through the swamp to the nearest bushes, located 30 meters away, to hide.

Literally within 10 minutes, the Ukrainian military drove up in three cars. There were about 15 of them, and they started combing the surrounding area. The navigator also had a broken right arm, but the guys were able to get one grenade and a Stechkin automatic pistol (APS). They pulled the pin out of the grenade, cocked the APS, said goodbye to each other and began to wait. They were not going to surrender, they were preparing to take the fight.

Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine walked around, found emergency Mosquitoes and parachutes. Then some of them took what they found to their positions in order to lure Russian search and rescue helicopters there. The remaining soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were driven to comb the nearby village, thinking that the crew of the Su-34 hid there, but then artillery began to work. The Ukrainian military returned to their positions, from which they began shelling the surrounding area with small arms.

The radio was silent: both on the set frequency and on the emergency one, no one wanted to talk to our crew (at night there was a change in the search frequencies, but some deer forgot it or did not want to tell the crews)

he explained.

The Russians were tormented by thirst, the water in the flask was over, so they drank straight from the swamp. So the crew waited for darkness. The GPS navigator showed that it was 50 km to the border, and the guys went on foot in the right direction. They wandered for a long time, carefully making their way to their own. In 13 hours, under the influence of adrenaline and painkillers, they managed to walk almost 30 km over rough terrain and reach a village.

The navigator's compression fracture of the spine began to make itself felt, so "Petrukha", after lurking his brother, went to reconnoiter the village. I saw some trustworthy grandfather and directly asked: “Are there Russians in the village?” “Yes,” said the grandfather and waved his hand at the hangar nearby. "Petrukha" returned for "Nikolaich" and dragged him to ours. And dragged it. They have arrived. Together. Crew. And there really were ours

Ukrainian sources reported the discovery of the body of one of the "ghosts of Kyiv", Colonel Mikhail Matyushenko, who died in June in an air battle over the Black Sea. A few days later, the military will be buried in Bucha.

At the same time, it is indicated that Matyushenko, who piloted the L-39 Albatross combat training aircraft, was able to confront two Russian Su-30 fighters at night. This version of events raises doubts among the military expert, Colonel Mikhail Khodarenko.

I can hardly imagine that a training aircraft, not equipped with any means of control and guidance of high-precision weapons, including a powerful radar, could fight against two Russian Su-30s

- the analyst noted in his telegram channel.

According to Khodarenko, the Ukrainians pass off as a battle only an attempt by a training aircraft to take off and gain altitude. Su-30 fighters, thanks to their radars, can see a target hundreds of kilometers away, so the L-39 is not able to compete with them in combat.

Kyiv, on the other hand, needs legends, and local propagandists are trying to fashion another story full of heroism that would inspire people to desperate resistance.

Along with this, as Mikhail Khodarenok writes, the "ghosts of Kyiv" do not represent a serious force, and this is beginning to be understood in Ukraine.

These are not career pilots, but real dinosaurs without proper training

- stressed the expert
