You know what will be funnier?
Placing infantry under a B52's bombing run and saying "well, Infantry is obsolete".
Well, yes, of course it is. Everything is obsolete when you carry an extra chromosome. :shoot:

I'm just wondering what the future of drone development would look like.
Will we see drones dogfighting?
Will there be different class of drones like the case for fighter jets?
Bombers, CAS-specific, interceptors, drone-specific air superiority, multi-role etc?

We may have some new breakthrough in this class to merely reset the status quo back to it's original form.
As is the case for every weapon system ever.

This always happens. Something REALLY effective comes out, destroys the other side which doesn't have it, people start thinking it'll make the other systems obsolete, then the other side acquires the same stuff and there's a stalemate. Then countermeasures are developed. Guns, tanks, jets, submarines, nukes, drones. It's all the same story.
Finally, warfare ends up back where it started. A platoon on top of a hilltop trying to kill the platoon at the bottom of the hill before it seizes their post.

To quote the Fallout 4 narrator- War never changes.
You are my new favorite war analyst.
Yeah, if one were to go by the words of the morons that seem to be infesting the SM (and our very own DFI) these days, then tanks have been obsolete since the very first day they appeared on the battlefield more than 100 years ago!!
And to quote GD Bakshi: “Manpower”.

Well yes it is an evolving scenario, as always. But tanks have been easily countered and not drones in recent war, promoting my observation.

Tanks have been equipped with several counter measures but they are not proving effective in actual battle.

I think most enemy infantry zones will be rich in ATGM. We do not need tanks anyways when there is no presence of enemy infantry. With tanks, enemy gets a clearly visible, slow moving target which can be taken out easily.
Terrain, as you rightly said, are important. Different terrains will require different strategies.

But even if we take example of dense forest, it would be easier to operate drone than a tank. Tank will find no movement except on roads (where they can be targeted) while drones flying all over the forest can identify hiding enemies through heat signatures.
I understand what you're saying and I do not disagree for the most part.
Thing is- what happens when APS gets effective enough?
What happens when drones start detecting, prioritizing and killing ATGM operators before tanks roll in?
What happens when there's a strongly defended infantry fighting position where you don't want to risk your squishy fellows?

It's all about employment and availability.
Ukrainians and Russians are currently unable to procure enough assault rifles for their men. ATGMs are a distant dream after NATO stops supplying them.

War is such that soft-skinned toyota hiluxes haven't become obsolete. Tanks are far from it.
If any equipment were to get obsolete in war, the first one would be infantry. After all, guns are everywhere, everyone has them and guns almost definitely kill people.
Again, all about employment and availability.

Armor and APS will change the game, only for some new super explosive master race 69 Gen ATGM to start punching through those advancements only for some even newer kryptonite/spider-silk/titanium based armor and quantum powered APS to just eat the blast later down the line and this cycle will continue till the gods decide these lil critters are getting close to making the bloody Brahmastra and blow us all to smithereens.

Glorious!:india:

That's because drones are new!! just give it a few years, let the armies develop and deploy effective countermeasures and believe me, you'll start uttering the same thing about drones vis-a-vis something newer still that comes along!!

None of the destroyed Russian tanks, including the T-90SM had been equipped with any kind of countermeasures other than smoke grenades!! And besides, we do not know how the individual tanks have been destroyed for us to make a statement like yours!!
For example, yeah, we have seen tanks with cope cages getting blown off and people went nuts but we do not know how exactly that came to be as in, where they got hit and with what?? Ever thought of that??

Watching who. It has always been known that war is won by air and artillery superiority.
No. battles are won with air, naval, artillery and infantry superiority.
Wars are won by the ability to keep fighting. this is why panzy NATO wins almost every battle but loses wars against vietnamese rice farmers and afghan shepherds. Coz they are too panzy to keep fighting after taking just a few thousand KIA+MIA.

Good luck with those ATGMs when your enemy starts to specifically target and eliminate those same ATGM groups with a drones-arty combo.

Just stop.
Terrain, as you rightly said, are important. Different terrains will require different strategies.
Yeah, great find, Gen. obvious!!
But even if we take example of dense forest, it would be easier to operate drone than a tank.
Go tell that to the CRPF fighting the Naxals.
Tank will find no movement except on roads (where they can be targeted) while drones flying all over the forest can identify hiding enemies through heat signatures.
One word - Ardennes.

From my limited understanding Oil Well cannot be closed temporarily and is suicidal (business wise).
That is worst case scenario you posted.
Any cessation of the extraction process may result in the clogging of this porous rock with sediment or paraffin, which means that production may permanently be reduced by half, or even stop completely, when pumping resumes. This loss of productivity does not always occur and it is sometimes possible to repair part of the damage by injecting chemicals into the well.
It all comes down to cost-benefit. If storage is not an option.

ME countries do this all the time. With modern advancements this is very much possible.
Modern wells are being designed with ability to control flow via controlling pressure.

With Ukraine soon to be neutralized by Russia, and with Finland and Sweden about to join NATO, America will soon run out of non-NATO cannon fodder, to fight a proxy war against Russia..
Russia has huge logistical advantages when fighting close to homeland, and any further G*ndmasti by America, will see a war in the Baltics, where America will have to fight against Russia directly, and will see thousands of American body bags..
While, Finland in NATO, creates a lot more opportunity to pierce through Russian Air Defense, US must also remember that Finland shares a 1300 km border with Russia.. And if Russia goes back to maintain large standing Armies, it would be a nightmare for US to ensure Finnish territorial integrity..

Russian demographics no longer permit it to raise large armies. Same for western countries which is why they do the fight using proxies. Demographics of France and UK is artificially growing since these are mostly immigrant driven. As much as they want to say mamadou living in suburb of France want to fuck blonde and not interested in fighting Russian😂

NATO holds ceremony to mark Sweden's and Finland's application for membership in Brussels

BRUSSELS, May 17 (Reuters) - Finland and Sweden formally applied to join the NATO alliance on Wednesday at allied headquarters, a decision spurred by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and setting in motion an accession process that is expected to take only a few weeks.

Sweden and Finland were both neutral throughout the Cold War, and their decision to join NATO is one of the most significant changes in Europe's security architecture for decades, reflecting a sweeping shift in public opinion in the Nordic region since Russia's Feb. 24 invasion.

"This is a historic moment, which we must seize," NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said at a short ceremony in which the Swedish and Finnish ambassadors to the alliance handed over their application letters, each in a white folder embossed with their national flag.

Another result of Putin's misadventure.
