Do the discounts (which if I'm not wrong are quite minimal now) make up for the inflated oil and gas prices caused by the war in the first place? Also is it wise to be dependent on a highly sanctioned country for energy needs? And before we were quite happy to import from ME while the Russians were happy selling to Europe (free market order of things if you will).India being energy dependent and having to import massive quantities of it can do so by buying it off Russia that too on a discount.
No expensive long term contracts needing to be signed and compete with Europe and Asia for it and on top of it refine the crude and export to the world.
+ Finding new markets for our agricultural products, military artifacts and fertilizers.
