Its called TERCOM. Earlier iterations were developed in 1950s.dont have link to it . but idea is to use ground features to navigate . things like road , river , buildings .
TERCOM uses a pre-recorded contour map of the terrain that is compared with measurements made during flight by an on-board radar altimeter. The aerial vehicle still has an internal INS and will use GPS for error correction.
