R&D cost is the biggest cost followed by Material cost is the biggest cost in defence equipment along with capital cost for infrastructure, machines, etc. Labor cost is not great as most manufacturing as most steps are automated.

Defence manufacturing is not like FMCG manufacturing where labor cost are a major factor else US MIC would have outsourced their entire supply chain to PRC long time ago.
I said all things ..i mentioned labour cost cause that is more relatable to normal people.
And there you have hit the crux of it (bold part).. this is the only part of the supply chain that the Americans have not outsourced because of national security reasons .and they pay though their nose for it
Russian Chinese Indian R&d is far cheaper and has more bang for the (dollar) buck.

GMLRS variant of HIMARS has CEP of < 10 m for 90% of strikes.
Latest variant of GMLRS has CEP of 1-3 m for 99% of strikes.
These latest variants were suppose to be employed during strike on the bridge on the dam at Nova Kakhovka.

The reason Tornado & Smerch usage is reduced due to HIMARS destroying lot of ammunition storage and Russian inability to manufacture smart rounds due to unavailability of electronics and semiconductors.

Russian cost appear low because the manipulate the supply chain and artificial deflate the cost of material.
As Russia handle everything from raw material extraction to manufacturing of final product they can manipulate the system.
You can see multiple GMLRS rounds hitting the exact same spot of Antonovsky bridge yesterday after successfully evading Russian Air defense systems.. You can Also see multiple Russian AD systems firing.

GMLRS CEP >> than Russian Tornado-S brochure CEP.. :bplease:
The Tornado-S hits on Nikoleav I had seen in a video weren't that close..

And by the way.. HIMARS won't be enough to turn the war.. The only thing it achieves is making it costlier for Russia in terms of Lives and Equipment

Does the west need any more proof? This POS is the reason why I want Ukraine to lose.
Ukrainian Nazi Korchinsky proposed to strike at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant!?
"
They can be stopped only with a nuclear attack" “Yes, it is a risk. Many people will suffer ... You have to strike, there is no other way."

Here's a world famous msm site "Reuters" writing about this Nazi back in July, 2015
Special Report: Ukraine struggles to control maverick battalions
By Elizabeth Piper, Sergiy Karazy
12 MIN READ

KIEV (Reuters) - From a basement billiard club in central Kiev, Dmytro Korchynsky commands a volunteer battalion helping Ukraine’s government fight rebels in the east. A burly man with a long, Cossack-style moustache, Korchynsky has several hundred armed men at his disposal. The exact number, he said, is “classified.”

Doesn't look like we can learn anything from them
Wrong. We can learn from them in terms of lessons learned in how to counter drone usage in artillery spotting & targeting. How to do counter battery operations in 21st century warfare. How to improve the survivability of the T 72s and T-90s given their weaknesses and yet use them in combat Etc.

While it is true that US establishment, since Vietnam has not been able to bear the social cost of high intensity conflict, US industrial warfare capabilities did not atrophy after Vietnam.. US had 3.5 lakh troops in Europe in late 80s.. and trained to fight high intensity conventional war on a continental scale every year.. The Air land Concept adopted in the 80s..is about US Army engaging in Maneuver warfare like the Soviet Army, with US Air force hitting the Soviet Army's rear.. It was the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the heady feel of the End of History, that decayed US industrial warfare capabilities..
US never cares for the lives of cannon fodder like Ukranians. If the US had the surge capabilities it had during the cold war, the war in Ukraine would have been far uglier, for both Ukraine and Russia..
US warfare capabilities did start to atophy after vietnam. In modern capitalism, if you don't grow, you decay : all enterprises, show the following trajectory of failure : growth-->stagnation--> contraction.

From 1980-1990, US military capabilities stagnated and THIS is the period they started the shift in industrial capacity from high intensity saturation warfare to low intensity precision warfare. THIS is the period when growler program, their ATACAMs, conceived of the stealth program etc - ALL of these, are moves away from high intensity saturation warfare, to low intensity precision warfare.
It took time, like well into the early 2000s- for such structural and logistical changes to be reflected into the military.
US may not care for lives of its proxy nation. No one does. but it cannot wage high intensity saturation warfare socially, is why they started to shift away from it in the immediate aftermath of vietnam war.

Vietnam was their second major decisive loss, the first being Korea. But while Korean war loss could be blamed on low troop morale, due to ww2 fatigue, vietnam was their first rude shock of their society unwilling to accept cost of high intensity saturation warfare,. And that has not changed.

Russia has signed a contract with Iran to buy 1,000 drones after #Iran delivered a few planes and they were successfully used the first drones in Ukraine.Tehran considers this to be recognition of its advanced military industry, achieved despite 43 years of US sanctions on Iran.

Have you ever worked R&D ? R&D cost is usually 50-70% wage cost of high skilled workers. Even material cost of making a hunk of steel, has about 30-40% wage cost of the human worker.

This is why R&D and everything costs less in India than USA but costs more in Norway than in USA - cost of labour. and this is where the 10-20 times cost saving is. - because while you must pay Wernher von Braun 250,000 dollars, you pay Homi Bhaba 5,000 dollars.
