State tests of the new model of Kalashnikov automatic rifles will be held in Russia next year, Izhmash Director General Vladimir Grodetsky said on Tuesday.

The new model of the legendary assault rifle, the AK-200, is based on the AK-74M and differs in weight (3.8 kilograms/8.4 lbs vs. 3.3 kilograms/7.3 lbs) and the magazine capacity (30, 50, 60 rounds vs. 30).

The AK-74, a developed version of the Kalashnikov rifle's first model, the AK-47, was introduced in 1974 and used by the Soviet forces during the Afghanistan conflict.

Over the years neither the mechanism of the AK nor the flash suppressor for it's carbine version has changed.

The article is in Russian could you give a brief on what it is saying?
This is my amateur analysis of the design and construction of the AK-12. In short, unique distinction of AK-12 - this telescopic the buttstock folding and to the right and to the left. In the basis of the shock-and-trigger mechanism AK-12 - shock-and-trigger mechanism of the AK-74. Changed the mounting of the foregrip.
Some people in Russia think that AK-12 will participate in the new indian tender for the replacement of the INSAS. I thought so too, but for the reasonable opinion of the AK-12 for he will not have time. In the serial production of the promise will go only in 2013.
At what stage is now the tender? What companies are participating? Where can I read about it?

A New Kalashnikov: AK-12 « WeaponsMan
The new weapon is as reliable as the AK-74, the Izmash factory CEO Maksim Kuzyuk says (We believe he's the guy standing behind the rifle in the photo above - Eds.), but the dynamic characteristics differ significantly. It considerably increases the accuracy of shooting. The rifle is capable of firing in three modes: single shot, three shots and automatic fire mode.

As far as the promise of more accuracy is concerned, one thing that will help is the AK-12's longer sighting radius. Its foresight remains mounted on a front sight tower behind the muzzle device, but its rearsight is moved to the rear of the receiver cover, in Valmet/Galil style. The rearsight remains a an open sight with a ballistic ramp for range adjustment, conceptually unchanged since Mosin-Nagant days.
