Pakistan and Russia have signed an agreement to allow Pakistani troops to receive training at Russian military training institutes, a move aimed at boosting their bilateral defence ties.

The agreement was signed yesterday at the conclusion of the first meeting of Russia-Pakistan Joint Military Consultative Committee (JMCC), according to Pakistan's defence ministry.

"Both countries signed the Contract on Admission of Service Members of Pakistan in RF's (Russian Federation) Training Institutes," the ministry said.

The Russian side was led by Deputy Defence Minister Col Gen. Alexander V Fomin who visited Pakistan from August 6-7 to attend the first session of Russia-Pakistan Joint Military Consultative Committee (JMCC).

Lt. Gen (retd) Zamir ul Hassan Shah, Secretary Defence, led the Pakistani delegation during the JMCC meeting.

Prior to the inaugural meeting, held yesterday in the ministry of defence Rawalpindi, the visiting dignitary called on secretary defence and the defence minister.

Russia to punish India with Pakistan’s help for failing 5th-generation fighter project
Russia has been pushing India to pick a side (Russia or US). India would have picked US if the circumstances in the US were different. Actually things were moving in that direction till couple of years ago.

Russia does not seem to realize that 2-million Indians work and live in the US. This will make it difficult for India to pick Russia over US. Apart from that trade between India and US has been on rise.

Will Russia choose between India and China? Answer is no because Russia and China have significant trade with each other. This is the same logic behind India's refusal to pick Russia over US.

Russian aint gonna get s**t by associating with the paki beggars and eventually pakis would become a drag for the russians too, its just a pressure tactic by the russians. Thanks to our corrupt and foolish civil and military bureaucrats that we are dependent on the foreign suppliers for our weapons to date. They have ensured that all the promising weapon projects are nipped in the bud so that they could keep their wallets fat by receiving kickbacks in the defence deals.

Russia is the reason for delays and cost overruns on the FGFA. They wanted more money and were not ready for ToT. This altercation was not started form India's side.

Russia also has legitimate reasons to have good diplomatic ties with Pakistan because of their hold over Taliban and that general area which the US is using as a launchpad to threaten Russia's soft underbelly.

Russia can't rely on China because China itself is trying to outpace Russia as the world's preeminent power after the US, in sync with their vision to have a bipolar world order where only the US and China share power. China is as much a threat to Russia as it is to India. Putin better be prepared to give us a discount on the S400 if he doesn't want that deal to get cancelled as well.

Neither Russia nor the US can stop China from gaining superpower status so the only option left for them is to reluctantly accede to India's vision of a multipolar world where the rise of India balances China's power to some extent. Pakistan is nowhere in the great game. Ultimately India, US, China and Russia will reach an arrangement about what needs to be done in Afghanistan and Pakistan will lose its strategic depth.

Nehru choose Russia and it set India back economically by atleast 4 decades.
no need to keep siding with a loser.

Nehru did not choose Russia. He wanted to stay away from both. Russia cannot fund the black hole called pakistan. Just a fake new about russia pak relationship.

In two simple words...Nothing much. Russia Paki relationship is an overblown propaganda...very little truth in it.
Bankrupt Pakis are trying to associate themselves with Russia and making loud noises. Just ignore it.

Nehru pioneered the flop program called Non Aligned Movement. While in reality he allowed CIA and MI5 to operate freely inside India. The recent news of nuke device lost in Ganga is a proof. It was Indira Gandhi who sold the country to USSR. Her socialist economic policies like nationalisation etc put the country back by decades. But the implications of Indo Russo relations during 1971 are a different matter altogether.

This is a symbolic gesture. Pakis get to thumb their nose to India and Russians get to signal to India about their increasing closeness to the Americans.

Beyond these symbolic moves nothing more will happen, Russia is cash strapped and the ongoing sanction regime is going to pinch them more. They need Indian money to run their defense industry.

On the other hand Russia has practically armed China with he latest Hi Tech weaponry, they can do the same with Pakistan- but then it will have to be on credit as Pakistan does not have the cash.

If Nehru allowed CIA and MI5 freely then why India implemented 5yr Plan,License Raj (ussr copy),imported 90% weapons and missiles from Russia (pained in India) and so on ??

On topic: Russia is evil, USA is maha evil better stand on our ground but it is not possible unless we technically developed. One definitely supports chinis and porkis with weapons (and tech), and so India forced to PURCHASE from another one ..... both will get rich on dead-bodies of Asians.
You are confusing economy with politics/ foreign policy.
Here is one link. Not only a nuke device but Nehru Govt okayed spy flights to China from orrisa.
https://indianexpress.com/article/n...-flights-to-china-from-orissa-base-cia-files/

Nehru being a megalomaniac wanted the best of both Worlds. He wanted India to be a Mixed economy. With both Private and Public sector contribution. However Govt controlling the major sectors. True he also inherited 5 yrs plans etc from the Soviets ideology. But here discussion is not abt economy. Its abt foreign relations. CIA and British Intel had infiltrated Indian Orgns is a known fact. Chk below how Nehru Govt spied Bose family and shared details with MI5.

Dont know abt which 90% missiles or weapons u r talking abt. But Most of the fighter planes IAF flew during the initial years were of British origin like Gnats, Havilland etc, we also operated US B24 planes for sometime. Soviets captured our entire millitary space during 70s when Indira Gandhi bcame the PM. From there on we dumped the NAM thing and hopped onto Soviets in totality. Thats what I initially said.

Most of the weapons that we had till late 60s were legacy WW II weapon systems, and also remember for many years the influence of the Raj was there. Even the first COAS was a British officer.

Russia Pakistan ties including defence cooperation will improve gradually as both are willing. Anyone thinking otherwise is fooling himself.

As far as what impact it will have on India then it is quite a hypothetical debate.

This is quite a primitive thought process, generally quite evident in Rogue nations like Pakistan where they look for new Godfathers to survive every next decade.

I, with conviction, think India is now capable enough to set its agenda and pursue its interest without the help of anyone be it is Russia or USA. To me being friendly and cosying up and looking for new alliances for India is more symbolic, transactional and participating than a desperate survival compulsion.

One simple test of new relationship will be ...watch S-400 deal carefully. As Uncle Trump is not allowing India to buy S-400 from Russia. If Russia sells S400 to India and India has balls to ignore Uncle Trump's threats and buys S-400 , then rest assured India and Russia relations are alive and kicking.
If other nation makes you decide who you can buy your weapons...there is no need for a military as you are already a slave to that country. You have no freedom if other country decides about your military needs. A truly independent country decides what weapons it buys and from whom.

If USA doesn't want us to buy S-400 then it should give THAAD without strings attached and at a compatible price. Simple.
