Russian-Japanese one-day drills to practice helping vessels in distress kicked off in the Sea of Japan near Russia's Vladivostok on Tuesday, a Russian Pacific Fleet spokesperson said.

This is coinciding with the American S Korean Jt. exercises. Is it a signal to North Korea? These are interesting times in this region, with the Chinese sitting tight on their butt.

I think Best option for Russia is to be neutral or pro America. They will be getting enough time to consolidate their position and work on strengthening their armed forces. Russia needs western tech to modernize its industry and a stronger china in its backyard will be much much worse than a America which is far away. I am sure this cooperation is going to increase even more.
