Russia Has Abandoned Its Massive Nuclear Destroyer And Supersized Frigate Programs

Both Project 23560 (18,000 ton Lider class cruiser) and 22350M (8000 ton Gorshkov class derivative heavy frigate) seem to be suspended due to financial inadequacy.

Main takeaways from my source answer post.

1. So far the only heavy stealth drone to fire weapons, can have the variety of carrying 4 internal glide bombs with 315 KG + payloads with ranges up to 120kms.

2. 6000km max range, suggests that it is well suited for deep strike missions than your average aircraft fighter.

3. 1 billion rubbles = 14,405,000.00 USD. But the final price when production hits would mean 14,405,000 times .60(40% - 100% of original price) and .50 we would get a potential price tag of 8,643,000 to 7,202,500 USD per drone.

To piss off a A-10 or F-16 fan talk about the air to ground capabilities of the F-35, to piss off a F-35 fan start comparing this drones air to ground role capabilities.

WATCH: Russian prototype military transport aircraft crashes

Three crew members died in the crash

A prototype military transport aircraft made by Russia’s Ilyushin has crashed during a test flight, killing three people who were on board. A video of the incident shows the plane’s right engine flaming out before the aircraft tilts to the side and crashes near the Kubinka airfield outside Moscow.

The new light military transport plane, Il-112V, crashed in a forested area as it was coming in for a landing at the Kubinka airfield about 45 kilometers west of Moscow, spokespeople of the corporation told the Tass news agency.

According to Russian news agency TASS, among those onboard was the Hero of the Russian Federation awardee Nikolai Kuimov. Kuimov had piloted the Il-112V during its first flight in 2019 as well.

Also on board was 1st-class test pilot Dmitry Komarov and 1st-class test flight engineer Nikolai Khludeyev, a spokesman for the UAC said.

"The fate of the crew is still unknown and rescue works are underway," the spokesman added.

Rescue work is currently underway.

The Il-112V was being designed to eventually replace Russia’s ageing An-26 transport aircraft. Russian officials had said the Il-112VE (an export variant of the plane) had been offered to India.

Two test pilots and a flight engineer were aboard the plane, and their fate is still unclear. A rescue operation is underway.

A video of the crash published online showed the plane flying at low altitude with one of its wings on fire, before making a sharp turn and plummeting to the ground.

The new light military transport plane, Il-112V, crashed in a forested area as it was coming in for a landing at the Kubinka airfield about 45 kilometers (28 miles) west of Moscow, spokesperson of Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation told the Associated Press.

United Aircraft Corporation is developing and testing the Il-112V as a replacement for the aging Antonov An-26.

The plane flew to the Moscow region last week and was set to be unveiled at the Army-2021 forum later this month. It is the first military transport plane developed in Russia from scratch since the Soviet Union collapsed.

Il-112V has turboprop engines and is designed to transport personnel, military equipment and weapons. It is capable of carrying up to 5 tons of cargo.

The plane’s first flight took place in March 2019, but it was reported to be too heavy and in need of improvements. Testing of Il-112V resumed only in March 2021.

Serial production of Il-112V is expected to begin in 2023 at the Voronezh Aviation Enterprise, which can produce up to 12 such planes a year.

I personally feel that India should adopt nuclear battle cruisers mixed with the existing carrier fleet (after INS Vikrant). CBGs are what make carriers effective and we are not going colonizing like ever. The Soviet doctrine of having floating fortresses were to rain hell on US Navy's CBGs and they worked throughout the Cold War.

If we could take the know-how from Russians, we could make a more modernized version of a Kirov class-style cruiser. Instead of naval artillery, they can be replaced with the upcoming hyperosonic BrahMos. 3 battle cruisers + 2 carriers would make our navy a mean fighting machine for the next 3-4 decades. PLAN won't be messing around if we could operate shit like that.

Wonder what happened to the GLONASS receivers that's fitted in their jets by default. Their pilots must have a killer aim if they can operate precision strike missions using civilian signals.
I read on some online discussion that GLONASS is riddled with problems especially in terms of accuracy and sudden loss of signal when compared to GPS.
As always reality/truth will always be more complex.

Hard to believe that; Russians may be many things but they are second to none in space technology. Something like a GLONASS is the very basic principle of their nuclear missile arsenal as the system would allow them to strike anywhere on the planet as required.

There has to be more to it; maybe a few malfunctioning satellites were being replaced or something. It is common knowledge to peddle misinformation in English language media about Russian stuff being 'riddled with problems or of inferior quality'.

for us , small pocket destroyers will be more suitable than those Mamooth Cruisers

we will work on 2000 Ton Pocket destroyers with combination of 16-32 AShM with range of some 500KM, Since we are not going to South China sea or artic sea, those pose serious threat to our adversary

For cost of 3 Battle cruisers, we can build 12 destroyers.
In peacetime, we usually deploy smaller flotillas. Having 2 out of 3 battlecruisers docked for repairs means only one battle cruiser can be deployed on average. With 12 destroyers, we have 4-6 ships that we can continuously deploy. If we deploy them in pairs, we can cover 2-3 times the area in peacetime than we can with the cruisers.
In wartime, 3 battlecruisers instead of 12 destroyers simply means same number of VLS but fewer sensors. More sensors also becomes more important given newer capabilities like cooperative engagement capability. Overall, there is a shift occurring in modern warfare where the key is to have more dispersion in sensors and shooters to improve redundancy and this trend will increase with further advancements in automation and networks.
Size of our largest surface combatant should be decided based on the largest sensor suite we plan to carry, the required manpower for it and the powerplant it requires. That and the performance of the ship itself. Other than that, we should aim to have the smallest size possible. Redundancy is key for survivability. Putting all eggs in one basket is suicide. The ideal size with current tech is around 10,000-13,000 tons. Won't likely change unless DEW and Railguns (when they become mature enough) are impossible to fit into ships this size.

Quality> Quantity.
UP population unless it is educated, will be useless to the country.
Just like the chooslims who want to increase headcount without any plan on how to feed, educate or develop that child :)
