17 September 2013

Vienna. September 16. INTERFAX – In the beginning of October Russia is planning construction of the Rooppur NNP in Bangladesh.

According to the statement of the Head of the State Corporation Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko issued to the journalists, the foundation stone laying of the plant on the site will take place in the beginning of October. "I am flying to Bangladesh on the 2nd of October<x-apple-data-detectors://5>", he said. This is also then that, according to him, it is expected that the contract for the engineering design of the NPP will be signed.

As the representative of one of the project participants on behalf of Russia stated earlier to Interfax, the contract for development of the design and documentation for certification of the Rooppur NPP may be signed before the end of 2013. At the moment exploration works are taking place at the site chosen for the future power plant for the assessment of environmental influence, emphasised the interviewed by the agency.

As stated earlier, the feasibility study for construction of the NPP and the required ecological research should be ready by 2015. Development of documentation is delegated to JSC NIAEP (the management company of the Russian prime contractor for construction of NPP abroad JSC Atomstroyexport). The corresponding contract was signed in June.

Moreover, in the beginning of the year the Russian Federation and Bangladesh signed a number of intergovernmental agreements, among which there is the agreement on provision of credit by Russia in the amount of $500 mln for construction of the NPP. Credit is provided in the framework of the first stage of construction, which includes the feasibility study and carrying out the preparation works.

Commissioning of the power plant is expected in the beginning of the 2020ies.

As has been stated, in November 2011 the Russian Federation and Bangladesh signed the intergovernmental agreement on construction of the first NPP on the territory of Bangladesh. The document provides for the design, construction and commissioning of two power units with the WMWC type reactors with the power of 1000 MWT each on the site in Rooppur (200 km away from the capital Bangladesh – Dakka city), as well as construction of the infrastructure.
