Finally Indian Government ordered nearly 123 Tejas for Indian Air Force. Tejas successfully conducted several tests and waiting for final FOC and now improved 83 Tejas MK 1A approved by CSS meet recently. Hal recently floated tender for radars, electronic equipment’s and targeting pod for Tejas MK 1A. The Tejas MK 1A will improved version of Tejas MK 1 and it will be powered by Kaveri engine with help of France. The Tejas Mk 1A will powered by Kaveri engine during Aero India 2019. In 2017 PM Modi Government approved 3 production line for Tejas of 16 Tejas per year or beyond 16. The development of Tejas MK 1A will completed in by the end of 2018. The integration of weapons and air to air refueling probe is under progress and FOC will be completed in December 2017. Better radar, electronic systems, targeting pod and Kaveri engines will make Tejas deadly aircraft. 40 Tejas MK 1 to be delivered by 2019 – 2020.

ADA plan freeze final design by 2019 and to begin work on first IOC certified aircraft which will take flight by 2020 or early 2021. Tejas MK 2 is advanced version of Tejas Mk 1 and Tejas Mk 1A. Indian navy interested in Tejas Mk 2 version. GE Aviation has handed over 2 F414GEINS6 engines to HAL which eventually power Tejas Mk 2. India expect to purchase up to 99 F414GEINS6 engines. F414GEINS6 engines gives 35% more thrust than previous F404 which powers Tejas Mk 1. Tejas MK 2 will be fitted with Uttam AESA radar which indigenous designed in India. Currently HAL developing Tejas MK 1A and Tejas Mk 2 side by side. While Navy expressed interested in Tejas Mk 2 and Air force has still not expressed interested. Current Modi Government showing keen interest in indigenous military weapons. If this trend continues for next 10 years our arms import will be dropped by 80 percent.

SAAB Offers World Class Sensor Package For Tejas

The radar has a complete mode suite which includes air-to-air, air-to-ground and air-to-sea capabilities, a SAAB release said.
BANGALORE
: Defense and security company SAAB has offered a fighter sensor package for the homegrown Tejas LCA Mk1A fighter aircraft.
The package consists of a state-of-the-art SAAB Airborne Electronically Scanned Array fighter radar closely integrated with a compact electronic warfare suite using Gallium Nitride based AESA technology, the company said.
SAAB, in partnership with Indian industry, offers a solution that will bring the required AESA Fighter radar and Electronic warfare capability to India and the Indian Air Force, it said.
The AESA fighter radar is developed by SAAB with antenna technology based on the latest technologies using Gallium Nitride (GaN) and Silicone Carbide (SiC) substrates in combination with the latest generation of exciter/receiver and processor technology, giving optimum installed performance in a dense signal environment, it said.
The radar has a complete mode suite which includes air-to-air, air-to-ground and air-to-sea capabilities, a SAAB release said.
A built-in memory provides a tool to record a large amount of data from performed flights.
Integration in the LCA Mk-1A fighter aircraft is enabled by the limited space, power and cooling required, it said.
The EW suite consists of sensors and transmitters developed by SAAB and is a highly capable and extremely compact solution that provides essential situational awareness and self-protection, the release said.
The heart of the suite is an electronic warfare receiver which is connected to a front end receiver and fin tip antennas inside the aircraft, it added.

Will the self protection suite offered as a package with AESA radar be integrated within the fighter aircraft? This will release a weapons bay for additional ammunition..

Tejas has a bright future for exports, it will be the only 4++ generation aircraft at a reasonable price tag. Hope we make it a legendary fighter..:india:

LCA Tejas is far superior than Mirage-2000 and the Chinese JF-17
After building light combat aircraft (LCA) - Tejas - India's target is to build fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA) indigenously. This is what H Siddesha, project director and technology director of LCA at the Aeronautical Development Agency of Ministry of Defense said here on Friday.

Siddesha was in the city to deliver a guest lecture on the inaugural day of Footprints X7 - Gujarat's largest technical event organised for three days by the students of M S University's Faculty of Technology and Engineering for the seventeenth consecutive year.

FGFA, which is under development, is very much a future requirement for the Indian Air Force (IAF) upgrade programme. "It should take flight in 2028," he said.

Talking about Tejas, which has been inducted in the IAF, he said, IAF has placed an order of 123 Tejas Mark 1. "Every year, 16 Tejas aircrafts will be built on two assembly lines. By 2024, all the aircrafts will be inducted in the IAF whereas Tejas Mark 2 version will be ready by 2021," he said, adding that Tejas is superior than France's Mirage and China's JF-17 fighter jets.
"So far, Tejas has taken 4,000 flights and in none of them it has met with even a minor accident which is a record in itself.

The technical staff can replace engine of Tejas within 45 minutes and the cockpit and flight control system are world class," he said, adding that although some countries have evinced interest in procuring Tejas from India, the government is yet to take the decision on whether it should be exported. On the inaugural day of Footprints, Dr Ulrich Bez, former CEO and current non executive chairman of Aston Martin also delivered a guest lecture while a workshop of 'Biped Robotics' where participants were taught how to make an autonomous robot capable of running, walking and even doing 180 degree split was taught to the participants.

It's not that unusual. We still need to scale up the setup to produce and service large number of Tejas aircraft, only then can we think of exports.

Not really, at this moment, we need every Tejas that we can build for our own use. Once we fulfil our requirements and the production line is up and running, we can/should focus on exports.

Of course, there will come a time when we'll have to look at exports for the viability and longevity of the Tejas programme and also to boost AMCA development. But we are still many years away from that.

Nice article but too much basic for Defense Jingos like we people. You should have discussed some more technical aspects like I did in my article of LCA Tejas and Gripen NG comparison.
