The Gold would rott in the Temple dungeons/vaults and God is not going to come on earth and use it.

It's funny to think that God wants us to gift him Gold and stuff. Why not channel the money towards some education/job stuff etc.God would be really happy for that.

If it can be used for Ghar Wapsi then it can be great. :thumb:
But if the GoI gets its hand on temple wealth directly, it wont be used for Ghar whapsi but for Haj subsidies and for Minority development:truestory:

This is the problem when people confound issues by mixing up problems.

Hindus should demand for no govt intervention in temple management and they should be free to do whatever they want. There is no point in discussing whether govt issues a gold bond or not. The main problem is much deeper than issue of a gold bond.

But then if temples are run like personal fiefdoms by some priests, then again people will have issues and ask for govt. intervention.

So, what do you do if it has hit peak gold levels? Keep sitting on it, waiting indefinitely for demand to rise to increase the prices. And do what in the end- nothing!

Are you arguing that such a huge stock is better lying in the vaults? We should not put it to any productive use even if temples have no problem investing it themselves.
Step 1) DO NOT give it to secular hindu-hating government.
Step 2) Get this gold free from govt control.
Step 3) Monetize it to exclusively help Hindus and Hindus only. @Mad Indian
We cannot guarantee independence of temple decision making bodies ..... This move should be opposed . I dont want my temple gold funding Hajj and Christian welfare.

But that is the current state of affairs in India. Without the temple autonomy, what I said is what will happen

I support the idea of temple autonomy. People who have a problem with the way temples are run can build their own temples. Let the free market regulate itself

It is better for the gold to be used for public purposes, else it will disappear bit by bit.

Even now the temple trust which is resisting the govt's move the most is possibly the most corrupt and helped themselves with some of the gold.

So you are ok with your tax money funding Hajj!

Btw, if govt pays for monetizing the gold how does that fund Hajj directly? The temple gets money that it can invest in other instruments. If they invest it right may be they will get higher return than what gold could have given.

The Gold that has been given as 'arpan' to god is a sacrifice for common good of all people and life in perpetuity. Common good to be decided by all the people that are ever to live. Not merely by a PM and his cohorts who are in power at one solitary point in time. PM may be our leader by election but even he is not the one with brains enough to decide as to what is perpetual common good. Much less a parliament that swears by the constitution but cannot get its own pet constituencies to abide by it.

It is the gold in the ownership of the gods and its gods business how he decides to have it used. If the gods decide that it ain't gonna be used before next yug change, then so be it. If anybody tries any hanky panky with the god's gold then he can expect some repercussions.

Having said that I still have faith in Modi. He will not do it to rob the temples of the gold. I think it is a misguided attempt at unlocking some interest income for the temples and some of the newer temples that are not under the government control may actually be interested in this scheme. While these temples should be allowed to avail of such a scheme, still we need to beware that this does not end up robbing our future generations of the collective goodwill these sacrifices symbolize.

I still call it a misguided attempt because such a half measures cannot assure sanctity of the temple gold and yet provides the excuses to international powers to rob our commoners of the widely held gold. What most people do not realize is that in all major economies that are distinctly top-down (US, China, Russia, EU) and where people are basically converted morons, the gold is actually under the control of the governments of those lands. India is absolutely different because India's gold is held in the hands of the widest possible number of people and/or locked up in temples for perpetuity. People have to read why US is unable/unwilling to give German gold back. US has robbed Germany. People have to read why our gold was take overseas by the British Raj for their war fighting and how the brits then paid it back by debased gold and debased silver. Don't go jumping into the fires of hell.

Gold must be controlled (not merely held) by the widest possible number of people in any given country and the governments should be allowed only the limited amounts they can manage through their revenues. Fiat currency is not the basis for valuing gold. Nothing material is ever good enough to truly value gold.

If some idiots feel that the economy has gotten into a mess then those, citizen who participated in this tamasha by their acts or omission and commission, electing or not opposing, Congressis and AAPtards, deserve to reap the rotten fruits of their evil actions or in-actions. It is not for the gods to set your lousy economic idiocy right.

Not at all.... The govt. should remove all subsidies. 100% subsidy free india.

The govt. in the past 70 so years has kept india a poor country that can't manufacture a 4++ gen fighter. Thats why CAD is so high ... and that is what these people want to cover up. While Zombie carpenter cult gets money from west and holds massive land, desert pedophile cult has petro dollars. This move will throw the remaining wealth of Hindu temples (after a millennium of plunder ) into govt. hands. Who can guarantee that another Kejruddin will not come up as PM and give to money to 3rd class bijli sadak pani for $hit people?
Meanwhile the temple holds onto rupees that will be crashing like MH370 in the ocean

Trying to distil down your long post.

1) It is God's will on how to use the gold. May be he is acting through his puppets like Modi in this case.
2) Top down govt rule over morons, who have higher live expectancy, better standards of living, unemployment benefits etc.
3) As if govt. issuing a bond would change Indians love for gold.

Gold is a super good asset in case of economic downturn or hardship and India does not have a good social safety net. I do not see how one govt action can change people's belief. No matter what govt. does, people would not start giving their daughters gold bond instead of a gold chain.

People interested in acting like nationalists must first of all learn what the hell 'freedom' is. Then they should seriously try to understand the link between fiat currency and Discounted pay back periods.

The reality of this world is faith. No amount of law/constitution-bazi/reason/modeling/calculation/theorizing, can ever say anything sane about one man reposing faith in the other or vice-versa. That gold in the temple is not there to provide respite to one lazy generation of citizens who know all their rights but acknowledge none of their duties.

Dude, you are barking up the wrong tree and conflating numerous problems into one. You did not explain how a temple having diversified financial portfolio is worse than holding gold.

At the end of the day, it boils down to govt. control over temple. If they control temple, they can confiscate gold or the portfolio of assets/investments. If they don't control temple, they cannot confiscate anything. Why is it so difficult to understand!

If the return is higher than holding gold and inflation, how does that make it a bad investment?

Ah you are now talking about Massihas. Right?

God is currently acting through me. If you know what that means.

2) Top down govt rule over morons, who have higher live expectancy, better standards of living, unemployment benefits etc.
And also the highest entitlement syndrome, lowest respect for life and nature, eager to import luxuries to mortgage the country to the chinese and highest consumers of subsidies.

Thank you but no thanks.

What the govt. does is its business. What I am against is opening the flood gates for supplying 'reasons' and 'values' to rob the commoners of India esp. the Dharmics who are absolutely tied to this land, from the only asset they hold that survives beyond the jurisdiction of incompetent governments and a litany of wrong decisions.

India does not have a good social safety net because Indians do not think it is important. They would rather want subsidies instead of ensuring the safety of the last man in the line. Such an India will first have to set its karma right. Gods will be happy after that and give them even more :D.

We are looking at the problem from different viewpoints
My view is societal yours is economical.
I believe that this gold is for the good of hindu society and religion. I also believe that the Fiat currency system will fail one day and it is showing cracks already , with german bods giving negative interest rates. (lol this makes all projects profitable  ). I am also thinking 500 / 1000 years down the line, when Cristlamofacists will be the majority.
I also don't trust the GoI perpetually.

First off, temple gold is not a friggin investment decision. It is a sacrifice. And it is not a Nazrana to those who are in power for the time being.

Besides it is also a bad investment decision because the underlying is bad. No government since last few centuries, if you have missed those centuries, including the Modi govt., has yet proved that they have both the good sense and the capacity to deliver on perpetual reforms.

Dude, how long have you lived in the west to puppet your ideas? Even in the US they have tea party and right wing which opposes all kinds of doles and subsidies. On the other spectrum, you have a billion of Indians who want everything for free. Check out the discussion on voluntarily giving up LPG subsidy and many well off members on this forum were crying about it. So, do not generalize. And don't get me started about respect for nature!

If a temple can increase its assets by gainful investments, I do not understand how it can be called robbing!!
