can anyone explain major difference between this system and Akash?
duel impulse engine in place of Ramjet. Service cealing low. Tube launch against launch from stand. Low weight compared to akash. Terminal phase uses seeker opposite to Akash, Low weight around 150 KG against 700 KG of akash.can anyone explain major difference between this system and Akash?
Does this mean we are dropping Akash and moving with LR, MR, and SR-SAM?duel impulse engine in place of Ramjet. Service cealing low. Tube launch against launch from stand. Low weight compared to akash. Terminal phase uses seeker opposite to Akash, Low weight around 150 KG against 700 KG of akash.
Akash is going nowhere. India has huge gaps in air defense and we are still upgrading our old sams. Akash is a cheap Sam and useful for defence of fixed assets. QR Sam is for mobile defence.Does this mean we are dropping Akash and moving with LR, MR, and SR-SAM?
There's no reason why the AKASH wouldn't have 360* coverage, its launcher has a swiveling platform, just like QRSAM.QRSAM will have 360* coverage ..Akash don t have the 360* coverage if i am right ..
I believe media reports talk about 360 degree radar coverage..the platform can swivel 360 degrees..but I am not sureThere's no reason why the AKASH wouldn't have 360* coverage, its launcher has a swiveling platform, just like QRSAM.
Not sure how you can call the AKASH a MRSAM with just 30km range.Lets have some facts clear over here. When we talk about SR-SAM, MR-SAM, LR-SAM we are talkking about theatre defence. Akash is an MR-SAM. But when we talk about QR-SAM, we are talking about point defence. The latest QR-SAM is Astra based.
SR-SAM, MR-SAM, LR-SAM, QR-SAM is all about layered air defence. SPYDER is a part of it. Its good for us that we have been able to develop a point defence weapon unlike AKASH which has been a predominantly Theatre defence weapon and IAF had gone for SPYDER for point defence role.
That way, where you would keep BARAK 8? With 500 mtr interception range its a point defence as well as with 90 km interception range, its an area defence or theatre defence as well. Not sure how you can call the AKASH a MRSAM with just 30km range.
BARAK-8 is a MRSAM, just as IA and IAF refer to it, AKASH is a SRSAM, look at how it is being employed. That way, where you would keep BARAK 8? With 500 mtr interception range its a point defence as well as with 90 km interception range, its an area defence or theatre defence as well.
These terms does depends on the theatre in which they do operate. AKASH is not been deployed by IN, but instead they had gone for BARAK and BARAK 8. Now these two missiles does cover the whole defence strategy for IN, but as far as IA and IAF is considered, they do have a layered air defence system and AKASH with 30 km maximum range does fits in MR-SAM category.
QRSAM is primarily meant to take down low flying UAVs, helos, a/c and missiles for the IA, it fits perfectly in the combat doctrine of IA. For high flying targets the IAF will take care of themAkash have 18km altitude ceiling, while its almost 3 times lower for QR-SAM.
No Akash has a very high ceiling of 20 KM. We are developing the extended version of Akash.Does this mean we are dropping Akash and moving with LR, MR, and SR-SAM?
