Always good to see some indigenous stuff
To be a superpower and a strong military we need to take necessary steps for our military.

-Good equipment for our forces like Night Vision, Bullet Proof Jacket, helmet and communication tools
-Homemade Warship - Frigate, Destroyer, patrol ship and Minesweeper
-At lest 4 Aircraft Carrier with two of them nuclear will be preferable to guard Bay Of Bengal, Arabian sea, Indian Ocean near Sri Lanka and Andaman
- Our forces should be well feed, educated and Trained, that mean regular training with foreign SF of Israel, US Japan
- One thing that we should make sure is that we never run Out of ammunition during critical time, that calls for a dedicated ammunition set up that can produce at fast pace during war times.
- Good road and train networks should be constructed in Sikkim, Kashmir and the entire NE

This will at least take 10 to 20 years but with a firm resolve we can achieve it.

DRDO’s quick reaction missile hits target in 30 seconds

Bengaluru: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Monday successfully test-fired the quick reaction surface-to-air missile (QR-SAM).

According to DRDO sources, the test was conducted from LC-3 (Launch Complex) of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, along the Odisha coast.

Mounted on a truck, the short range missile took off from a canister at 11.27 am and hit the target within 30 seconds. An electronic target was used during today’s launch.

This was QR-SAM’s second launch with the maiden one conducted on June 4, 2017.

Developed by Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), scientists from DRDO’s other labs including RCI, R&D Engineers and ITR were part of the QR-SAM mission.

Around 100 scientists were part of the launch campaign with majority of them being youngsters, with their average age being 35 years.

During the next launch, DRDO plans to engage the missile against an unmanned aerial platform. A home-grown seeker would also get onboard the missile for the subsequent launches.

With Indian Army being the first prospective user, DRDO is hopeful of the missile’s induction after seven to eight more launches. The missile has a range between 20-30 kms.

Defence Minister Arun Jaitley congratulated DRDO scientists soon after the launch via a tweet.

“Successful flight test of Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile paves way for complete indigenization of Surface to Air missile domain. This will add to India's defence capabilities,” Jaitley tweeted.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has given the first stage forest clearance to DRDO for setting up a new missile test launch facility at Gullalamoda village in Krishna district.

I will not be surprised if FCR of this system is based on LRDE FCR for Tejas (Utttam or otherwise) as interceptor missile is basically a heavily modified -- aft section is longer with newly shaped nose section featuring four fixed canards-- version of BVRAAM Astra MK-1. Besides, two new technology (for the first time) that DRDO has introduced -- miniaturised TVC and folded wings -- will go long way in making Astra MK-2 a world-class weapon. Folding wings, in particular, will make Astra MK-2 most suitable candidate for arming AMCA.

This is the respect we have for our agency (that when backed by the confidence of decision makers has produced world class weapons) which has produced a system which will not only stop more orders for SpyDer hence save dollars but also earn dollars if properly marketed.

Who can ignore relatively short time in which this system has progressed to firing tests from being a mere idea? If I can remember correctly, this system has gone from being an idea to firing tests in less than 18 months. That's awesome even by western standards.

FYI everything in this system of systems is a spin-off on many technologies that DRDO has painstakingly developed over decades. That also means once a county completes the period of technology development, development of actual systems takes only fraction of the time. NGARM is next in line-- a missile whose airframe is also based on Astra BVRAM.

Take a look at @sayareakd's Tweet:
The rocket engine is basically a spin-off of Barak 8 (elongated Derby) engine (a DRDO developed system). Going by the pic of QRSAM, it definitely has four thrust deflectors (call it TVC if you like) whose scaled up and bit modified version can be seen in AAD.

BTW timing of making this test public is well thought off. They made it public just when PM Modi is about to start his Isreal visit. It means increased pressure on Isreal to share and cooperate more at technology level than just hardware level.

That is something time will tell. But as far as IAF is concerned Astra MK-1 is about to be inducted and QRSAM is based on Astra MK-1 and an improvement over it. Also what makes this deal even sweeter, the Akash SAM has seen repeated orders from services............... It seems DRDO systems sees success when there is Government at the centre which is not after making (black) money from defence deals.

after how many years??
let the armed forces conduct the test then we can wait for the operation clearance and this will take 2-3 years and then they will ask to change something in it.

It was not expected to start shooting targets in a time period as small as 14 months by the same pessimists as you. Since I am neither a pessimist nor a mystic I can't comment on the number of years it will take to induction. But do mention that at the core this system is tested; be its missile or command and control (the reason why they went so quickly to firing tests against targets) and this the fact that makes me confident of its success.

Armed forces do reject DRDO developed weapons on basis of astronomical requirements in RFI. But it largely depends on what their bosses are saying; be it Sena Bhawan or south block depending on which government is at centre for obvious reasons. No one can help it--Tejas can be rejected for years and got inducted in a year after BJP came to power. Still, this was not the point of objection. Though "idhar udhar se design mar moor ke kuch toh banaya" was .
