Next worry should be be advance Infra red Imaging seeker for Astra and Short range~8-15 km range missile-

Meanwhile another advanced seeker development- Seems like AESA TRMM(module based) seeker-

That's cool indeed, internals, netted seekers and conformal antennas ... damn! With the advent of new metallurgical developments like GaN, GaAr and latest one GaSi ... seeker are getting smaller and better.

BEL plans ₹2,500 cr. spend on defence R&D

Bharat Electronics Ltd. (BEL) plans to spend ₹2,500 crore on R&D to develop and enhance indigenous products and technologies for the military by 2020.

The state-owned defence electronics manufacturer plans to develop solutions in military communications, radars, electronic warfare suites, weapon systems and electro-optic devices, BEL Chairman and Managing Director M.V. Gowtama said here on Wednesday.

With orders worth ₹40,000 crore in the pipeline, the company expects to touch a turnover of ₹10,000 crore this fiscal.

For the year ended March 2017, BEL posted a net profit of ₹1,548 crore on turnover of ₹8,825 crore.

BEL plans to spend ₹700 crore during the year, mainly on new facilities in Ananthapur and Machilipatnam and the Product Development & Innovation Centre in Bengaluru.

Partners DRDO

As part of the R&D plan, BEL’s board approved ₹274 crore budget for developing the QR-SAM (quick reaction surface-to-air missile) for the armed forces with technology partner DRDO.

“The development of the QR-SAM is progressing well,” Mr. Gowtama said. “We will go in for development trials early next year.”

New orders were expected for the Akash surface-to-air missiles for the Army and the Air Force, he said.

Quick reaction surface-to-air short range missile test-fired

Balasore (Odisha), June 4 (PTI) India today successfully test-fired an indigenously developed quick reaction surface- to-air short range missile from a test range along the Odisha coast.

The sophisticated missile was test-fired at about 12.40 pm from a truck-mounted canister launcher from launch complex-1 at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur near here, official sources said.

It was a developmental trial of the state-of-the-art missile, which engaged an aerial target successfully, they said, adding that the QR-SAM was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and other establishments.

The missile, which has a strike range of 20 to 30 kms, is capable of engaging multiple targets. Designed to be a quick reaction missile, it is an all-weather weapon system capable of tracking and firing, the sources said.

Some more rounds of trial of the weapon system are expected to be conducted in the near future from the same test range.

Since this is being dubbed a QRSAM, does this mean it has lock-on-after-launch capability? AFAIK, that is the basis of differentiating SRSAM and QRSAM.

Is QRSAM based on Astra
...or is a different missile? Does it have a seeker?

OK...it seems to have seeker (RF seeker for terminal guidance).

But the missile does not seem to be Astra...(as per the only diagram shown)..
The missile has front for ins, central fins and tail fins.. meaning it is not Astra, Amraam, Derbyor, Maitri or Trishul. It has some resemblance to the Tunguska missile..
If anyone has any pic of the missile, old post.

it seems it was a sub system test.... not a full prototype...

A @DRDO_India source tells us today's QRSAM test was a 'very initial subsystem level test'.

Why would they do a 'very initial subsystem level test' in Orissa? I'd believe there has to be some level of maturity before they want to employ all telemetry and testing facilities there. Initial level of integrated testing maybe?

First motor is tested on ground, then, its tested on air (this is what they might have tested) with full load, next they will test with flight control, then seeker and explosive, then full systems test and once its perfected, they will test the area envelop.
Something like this.
