Puzzles and Riddles

Hey Guys,

Just thought of starting a new interesting game thread where you have to use your brain and answer the questions to the riddles or puzzles posted here. Please don't try to lookup for the answers on the net, that will be a insult to your intellect and this forum's quality. You can attempt to answer even if it is wrong or just leave but please don't look up on the net.

Rules:

1) Post a riddle or puzzle which can be answered using common sense and logic not some strange formulas (please don't post puzzles that involves calculus for example ).

2) The puzzle can be answered by any member of the forum.

3) The member who answers the puzzle/riddle first and correctly will get the chance to pose the next puzzle/riddle (correct answer should be confirmed by poster of the puzzle/riddle).

4) If the puzzle is very difficult and members are unable to answer, the poster can leave some hints or give solution to the puzzle/riddle and then pose another new one.

5) If you didn't understand the above rules, please don't attempt answering any of the questions because you will fail in those attempts anyways (just kidding) .

The Magic Wizard and three men

There was this wizard who caught 3 men {let’s just say Mr.A, B and C}. The wizard wanted to kill all three of them, but they pleaded and so the wizard gave them a chance.

The wizard put the 3 men on flight of stairs, A first {A is on top of the flight of stairs} followed by B {B is in the middle} , and then C {C is at the base} , in this order:

They were stationed in such a way that A can see B and C, and B can only see C, but can’t see A, and C can see none.

They were then blindfolded, and on each of their head, he put a coloured cap, the colour of the cap can only either be black or white, however, there will be either 2 black 1 white, or 2 white and 1 black, either way the 3 men don’t know, all that they know is that there will be either black or white cap on their head, and that there will be either 2 white or 2 black cap on the 3 of them, which one they don’t know.

So the wizard want them to tell him what coloured hat is on their head within the next 5 seconds after he removed the blindfold. Any one who could answer correctly would save the life of all 3 men.

Then, the wizard removed the blindfold……
After 4 seconds, the one in the middle {B} answer the question, and it was correct, how did he do it?

Nope. it can be either 2 black - 1 white or 1 black - 2 white.

I might be missing the logic here but If its B that answerd it right and if it can be only 2 white or 2 black ofcourse it is easy guess for B to give the right answer. If C is wearing black then A & B are white..vice-versa.

You have not answered the puzzle logically. How did 'B' knew the correct answer. Remember, B can see only C but not A. So your answer is wrong.

Hearing nothing, the middle man knows the man in back doesn’t have a white hat; so the man in back’s hat must be black. If the man in the middle sees a black hat in front of him, then, in combination with the black hat behind him, he knows by elimination that his hat must be white. But he announces no such thing.

This tells the man in front that neither of the men behind him is wearing a white hat. That means both other men must be wearing black. Which leaves him with a white hat. Which he announces.

That will be cheating . The whole purpose of the questioning by the wizard will be defeated, if he has allowed them to talk among themselves and answer.

OK, EM you got it right. But the answer is that the hat can be either black or white on person B. The important thing is logic behind his answering which you have posted here. Good.
