PTI may cut Nato supply line through Khyber



The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf stated on Friday the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may cut NATO supply line passing through its jurisdiction.

"The party may cut NATO supply line passing through Khyber where it has formed government," Dr Shireen Mazari, PTI secretary information, said, adding Imran Khan had been aiming to move an anti-drones resolution in Lower House of Parliament.

"We have already made it clear to other political groups that drone attacks inside Pakistani territory were unacceptable; we need to stop them," added Mazari, a formidable critic of US policies.

She said when "certain quarters told us that striking a drone down was beyond the mandate of the provincial government", the PTI started considering any possibility of cutting NATO supply route through Khyber into Afghanistan.

Undoubtedly, this anti-drones approach of PTI may prove disastrous for the US and allied forces if the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sticks to it.

Pakistan suspended Nato supply line in November 2011, angrily denouncing violation of its sovereignty after a drone strike on an army outpost killed at least 25 soldiers.

The suspension was not dropped until Obama administration made an unconditional apology to Pakistan in 2012.

Reports say the US had to incur losses of millions of dollars on air transportation of supplies to Nato forces stationed in Afghanistan.

Insiders told The Nation on Friday the Khyer Pakhtunkhwa government was seriously mulling a cut on NATO supply line if the US did not stop violating Pakistan's sovereignty by firing drones into the Tribal Areas.

Sources added Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was in the middle of drawing up a petition to move international human rights watchdogs against inhumane drone strikes that trampled human rights.

but wont that lead to a financial strike to pakistan in form of denied aide and even if usa go further to use its influence it may cut down imf and world bank loand to Pakistan, there might be situation of denial of business with pakistan which could be indirect form of sanction.
pakistani lawmaker need to develop very stern and rigid stance to do what imran khan intend to do.
shooting down of drone will bring positive publicity to politicians but negative publicity to the nation as these drone strikes are considered strike against the terrorists and incase any one is stopping them, he will by nature would be considered terrorist sympathizer and in this case its central government of pakistan.

after draw down in 2014 the sole arm twisting tactic of pakistan will go away and then pakistan might face much more severe consequences.( recall 1990s; after soviet defeat when usa abondoned pakistan despite pakistan's enormous support to usa in the afghan war).
pakistan government should be very cautious in dealing with such issue and should avoid politicians who have no strategic knowledge

Well, think pakistan is getting over ambitious and overwhelming by the support given by the chinese.

Pak Army responsible for security of convoys. NATO supplies is what supplies PakArmy with money it needs to fill its pockets. There will be a direct conflict between PTI and PA. I say this considering PTI acting independently and not at the behest of the Pak Army which could be using PTI to up the costs and earn a little bit more

PTI is sure to be in touch with the PA
They want to raise the cost of transportation and make it erratic so that USA gives it a strong though to leave a majority of non-lethal and non sensitive equipment behind.And PA will get to use them for free.
