Visakhapatnam is actually HQ of Eastern Naval Command.

Indian navy generally names its destroyer ships after its cities. The P-15 was Kolkata class and P-15B is Vishakhapatnam class.

Kunal sir, AFAIK, the P15B will have heavier 127mm main guns and perhaps in the future Nirbhay LACMs. But that's it. No other major changes.

And yes, the secondary search radar will be AESA as well.

If yes then will it come at a cost of 16 brahmos missiles????

Or will navy upgrade these ships????

why indian navy uses different types of VLS.
They should try to fit different types of missiles in universal VLS. Like 1 Brahmos or 1 nirbhay or 4 LRSAM or 4 SRSAM/QRSAM per cell of VLS. It will help to improve adoptability of ship.

Having been onboard the Kolkata, and after some interesting conversations, it seems apparent that the IN wants the Nirbhay onboard the ships. We are waiting for the missile to mature. And yes, there's more than enough deckspace for future upgrades. That's planned in from the very beginning.

About UVLS, the Navy till now had a diverse range of weapons. Klub, SSN-25 Switchblades, SSN-2 Styx, Shtil, Barak-1, Barak-8, BrahMos.

Now and future ships have a streamlined weapons package in the form of Barak-8 for AD, Ak-630 for CIWS and Brahmos for ASuW (torpedoes and RBU-6000 for ASW). So, yes the IN is quite certainly thinking of having a UVLS. It simply wasn't feasible earlier.
