India issues tender for mega Rs 50,000 crore submarine project | India News - Times of India

NEW DELHI: The government on Tuesday issued the tender for the long-pending Rs 50,000 crore (almost $7 billion) project to construct six new-generation conventional stealth submarines with foreign collaboration, as part of the long-term plan to counter China’s expanding naval presence in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

Ya'll Nibbiars It's amount is still not fixed and already the MSM are quoting random amounts anywhere between 40,000 crores to 60,000 crores. :hehe:

Finally an RFP. Thank God. Anyway the first sub won't be here before 2030. And no VLS as well.

How ?? If deal is signed in 2022 ,and construction starts in 2023 ,we get first submarine in 2028
Well you do know when Scorpene deal was signed and when we got our first Scorpene. This being new technologies being added and tested 2028 is impossible.
Moreover 2022 deal is very very very unlikely. We have just released an RFP. Companies need to respond, JV needs to be formed, technical specs to be analysed. Afterwards L1/2 will be selected and cost negotiation will begin. Who are we kidding brother? It's Indian bureaucracy.

Yup but kaveri was intentional delay of ours due to all those bullshit .

I said if deal is signed in 2022 then , if deal is delayed then it's different thing

But think of the price , it was same 50k crore now and then , with currency depreciation , maybe we cut the share of commission highly and also the rfp has been issued ,not just rfi

Don't mistake it to be the final price. It is an indicative price only.
Final cost will be known after price negotiation.
Revisit MMRCA saga.

Strategically, assuming we can retrofit everything we want on the platform, I think the Swedish design looks promising. The rest of the competition are already working in every way with the India Navy. From scorpene, Shishumar class (German HDW Type 209/1500) and the sindughosh class (Russian Project 877 'Halibut' NATO name -Kilo).

The deal will be signed by 2023.

Now since MDL and L&T has been selected for this, the safe estimate of construction beginning period could be assumed by 2026. So the first submarine would only get inducted by 2030.
2028 is more then optimistic in this regard.

I mean why so long for construction to start , pre construction activity ?? Or tot ? Or institutional clearance and delay

If it would have been Scorpene class, then there would have been no delay. But this time it would be a completely new design.
So it means manufacturer has to rebuild the fabrication facility. MDL alone would not have been an issue, but we are bringing in L&T too. So the facility buildup is going to take time and this would happen only after deal signing.

But on bright side, instead of one sub per year, the delivery this time would be 2 subs per year. So we could assume that instead of 1 sub by 2030, we would see 2 subs getting commissioned.

But won't it be increasing cost as both will be delivering three each

That is why L&T has been selected. If it would have been two Public entity, the cost factor would have been major. But when you ask private entities to come into fray, you are minimizing your cost. GoI is not going to invest in setup building for L&T. they would only be paying for the end product. Only the assurance of further orders is enough for private parties to invest.

Ya'll Nibbiars that's good for nation security but for L & T shipyard not good as their financial conditions has worsened. Even this Contract would not help them only if they win more contract's then there is a way for the L & T Shipyard which from a independent subsidiary is now a Division of L & T. Hope they win more contracts. In 2018 they had a debt of 4,000 crores now that would had increased expontinetly.

Strategic partnership model.

It means L&T would be making products for the particular OEM in future too. But yeah, it depends on how L&T take forward their relation with the OEM.

Ya'll Nibbiars now their debt stands at 6,000 crores but due to the merger with the L & T shipyard into the L & T that's is not a concern now. They need to tap into more Civilian heavy offshore Engeering which is also their main strong point.
