Right now, no. Our ships can't reload VLS cells at sea. But with the new next gen Universal VLS, itll become possible. There are plans for new Replenishment ships for the same reason.

This is something i don't get...

Why don't our ships just have more VLS cells instead of the measly few? Isn't carrying them launch-ready on the warship better than bringing them along stacked in a mule?

There should be enough space for few more tubes, if not, it'll take only a few metres of elongation of the vessel.

but as we have seen with most of the navy ships coming out of navy design bureau. the stealth is under water not over water.

What's the point? Would submarines depend on sonar (as opposed to radar for warships)?

Simple - ships serve for decades - why choke up empty spaces that might in the future be home to advanced weaponry on the verge of delivery (better missiles, DEWs) or perhaps logistical systems that actually reload missile cells at sea?

Indian Navy to induct second Scorpene-class submarine INS Khanderi by September end

Second Scorpene-class submarine, INS Khanderi will get commissioned in the Indian Navy by Sepetember end. Sources have confirmed that on Sept 28, in the presence of defense minister Rajnath Singh the submarine which has completed all necessary acceptance trials successfully will be commissioned. It will be part of the Western Naval Command in Mumbai. Singh will also launch the first ship of the Shivalik Class which is follow on Project 17A at the Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL), Mumbai the same day.

You can install VLS cells without compromising space for the future. You can simply remove the cells and install different types of housing compartments for future advanced weaponry.
