On the other hand, look at it from Britain's perspective, it's a sinking civilization that needs to engineer conflicts in its former colonies in order to retain its relevance internationally. This is their last ditch attempt at holding on a bit longer. They don't have a global blue water navy or anything, even their ships are leaking. The only card they have to play is the separatist card. They have cultivated this over the years for the same reason.

"Free speech" excuse is bullshit. They wouldn't allow a peaceful Nazi rally in the name of free speech. This is purely geopolitics. India has taken note.

Khalistan Movement is a dead horse. No matter how much anti nationals flog it, it won't come alive. Supreme Court is now Modi's bitch. CJI Misra has tons of dirt on him and can face CBI investigation at any moment.
