Polish army "REGINA" program - Modernization of Artillery

I would like to present polish comprehensive program of the modernization artillery - "REGINA"

in theory in 2005 Polish Army was equipped in (more then100mm cal) :
- 509 122 mm self-propelled howitzer (SPH) 2S1 GVOZDIKA
– 111 152 mm SPH "žDana"
- 257 122 mm MLRS GRAD BM 21 and RM-70
– 169 motars 120 mm

now "Regina" is comming:

In terms of weapons systems "Regina" have this programs of developing and buy artilery systems:

1. self-propelles 120mm motar on wheel (Wolverine APC) and tracks chassis - "RAK" program ("Cancer")

There was no 120mm SP motars in Polish Army erlier so "Rak" is smth.new.

2.
All BM-21 GRAD will be replaced by 120mm MLRS WR-40 "LANGUSTA" ("Crayfish")

Now they are develeping stude about Fenisk + whit range ~60km
Polish army had bought 72 WR-40 "Crayfish" MLRS, but in plans polish artilery HQ wants ~110-120 WR-40.

All 2S1 122mm will be replaced by 155mm SPH "KRAB" ("Crab")

As I know Polish Army wants to buy Excalibur and BONUS rounds for "Crab".
Until 2016 they will be 16 SPH "Crab" in Polish Army, in target more then 48 SPH.

4.
All 152mm Cheh wv.77 SPH Dana will be replaced by 155mm wheel SPH "KRYL" ("Krill")

This program have now low priority, becouse all "Dana" in Polish Army are quite fresh. About 100 "Krill" wil be buy for polish army.

5.
All 9K76 Toczka will be repalced by HOMAR ("Lobster" MLRS 227(300mm)/600(607mm).
No photos available -this program have higt priority. Propably will be bought about 16-24 this MLRS system whit USA 607mm rocket system from MLRS.


How about CSI4 and C3 for Polish artylery? This will be in next post

News about REGINA program. Until 2018 Polish Army will buy:

75x 155mm SPH "KRAB" ("Crab") (3x 24 + 3 SPH for artilery school)
24 SPH's will be deliver until 2015

75x 20mm MLRS WR-40 "LANGUSTA" ("Crayfish") had been deliverd between last year.
Propably nex 24-48 MLRS will be buy.

104x self-propelles 120mm motar on wheel (Wolverine APC) and tracks chassis - "RAK" program ("Cancer")
64x on wheel chassis and 40x on track chassis. Priority have wheel chasiss.

I like the 155 mm SPH which from your post it seems that the Polish Army might be inducting around 100 of these. We should also look into this, considering the delays in our programme.


I would like to know is there a policy in Poland to buy military equipment from Russia, or it has been stopped.

There is no such policy, competitions and auction are completely free and anyone can present his offer that will meet demands of our armed forces.

There are of course other reasons like difficult political situation with Russia that makes rather not very possible for Russians to present their products, however for example there is more and more cooperation with Ukraine, and many more nations and companies, for example on last MSPO exhibition, Bumar had made an agrement with Sweidish division of BAE company.

This is more a problem of a good will, not any law.

Propably ony peopls who where in army (Akim?) understood those video:
Action from 1:11 when we can see incoming WR-40 MLRS, and after that crew is prepering MLRS to salvo. It takes only 50 seconda when command "GOTÓW" end preparations - on film form 1:23 to 2:08
In new "Langusta" series whole preperin can be done without going out MLRS -all is automatic.

Honestly, I do not see advantages of WR - 40 before RM - 70/85, which in Poland on an armament. Last, even better in the system of reload. True of RM - Czech, and WR-40 it his.

Where he? I looked video and him did not see. Recharge of RМ- 70, takes place for 2 minutes, and Langusta even by 8 members of crew time is anymore necessary probably.

Nexter teamed up with Huta Stalowa and Jelcz to offer a Caesar variant for the Army's Kryl expeditionary requirement. The Weimar agreement for increased defence alignment will probably see this deal go through. It won't be a huge order since Poland isn't an expeditionary Army, but a couple dozen units likely.

Langusta 2 is not in the army inventory yet, it was presented in the MSPO 2012 and the production is prepared instead of Langusta 1. Langusta 2 overall is more automated than it's predecesor, it is possible that old Langusta MRLS will be modernized to Langusta 2 standard.

The Weimar agreement for increased defence alignment will probably see this deal go through. It won't be a huge order since Poland isn't an expeditionary Army, but a couple dozen units likely.

We still need to wait a bit to see what will happen. IMHO modernized Dana with a gun used in Ceasar would be a bit better than just a gun on a truck, but this is only my opinion.

First Practice for Fire Control 155mm SPH Krab (Crab)

As I wrote erlier:

In REGINA comprehensive program of the modernization artillery all 2S1 Goździk SPH (122mm) will be repleced by 155mm SPH "KRAB" ("Crab") whit extra Excalibur and BONUS rounds. Until 2018 Polish Army will buy 75x 155mm SPH "KRAB" ("Crab") (3x 24 + 3 SPH for artilery school). All SPH's will be coneted in BMS "Topaz" -very modern FCS for artilery including artilery radars, drons, recon, air support and other:

Of course 155mm Cab SPH is only one part of the REGINA program.

Today second part about "REGINA" program.

Polish Army will buy 104x self-propelles 120mm motar on wheel (Wolverine APC) and tracks chassis - in codename "RAK" program ("Cancer")
Those self-propelles motars will replace all 2S1 Gździk in regiments.

64x will be on wheel chassis, and 40x on track chassis:

Priority have wheel chasiss. 120mm motar in both case have the same turret system.

Fire range:
-standard ammo -8km
-specjal ammo -12km
- 10-12 rounds per minute.
