The official's wife was found strangled while he was burnt to death.

New Delhi: Investigators are yet to make any breakthrough in the case of the mysterious deaths of a senior defence official and his wife in a south Delhi flat even as police made enquiries about him from his senior colleagues.

Police had recovered a note and a diary from the room of Kumar Yashkar, who was a Deputy Director in the Directorate General of Medical Services, in which he had spoken about work pressure and mentioned the names of two Army officials whom he alleged were pressurising him.

Yashkar and his wife Archana Sharma were found dead on Friday by their neighbours in their flat in south Delhi's Hudco Place. Sharma was found strangled while Yashkar was found burnt.

Investigators said they have already "talked" to three Army officials, including the immediate boss of Yashkar, to enquire about the deceased.

"There is no clarity as to what happened. We are investigating the matter. We are awaiting post mortem report. It may give us some lead," a senior police official said.

The official said they were not ruling out any angles and are investigating into the theories of murder as well as suicide.

Preliminary post mortem report had claimed that Yashkar died of severe burn injuries and his wife due to
strangulation. Police had registered a case of murder suspecting that Yashkar probably strangled his wife before committing suicide.

Yashkar's brother had told police that the officer was dealing with RTI applications and that he had indicated that there were pulls and pressures.

New twist in Defence official's death probe

Apr 02, 2012 at 11:04am IST

New Delhi: Delhi Police have recovered a diary of the senior Defence Ministry official, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances along with his wife two days ago, in which he is believed to have mentioned work stress and some Army officers having pressured him on job front.

The diary was recovered from the flat in Hudco Place in south Delhi where Kumar Yashkar Sinha and his wife Archana Sharma were found dead on Friday by their neighbours, police said on Sunday.

However, they said "it is not a suicide note" and was a personal diary which he maintained to record the happenings of the day.

"We cannot read too much into it. In the diary some names have been mentioned. He has mentioned work pressure and there are mentions about some of his colleagues. We will verify. At this time, we cannot firmly say that he committed suicide after killing his wife due to work pressure," a senior police official said.

The official said Yashkar has written that he was "being pressurised during work".

Asked whether the officers named in the diary will be questioned, the official said they were examining the matter and they were talking to his family and colleagues.

Yashkar, who was Deputy Director in the Directorate General of Medical Services, and his wife Archana were found dead in their flat on Friday afternoon.

Police had registered a case of murder suspecting that the official probably strangled his wife before committing suicide.

Yashkar's brother had told police that the officer was dealing with RTI applications and that he had indicated that there were pulls and pressures.
