PLA looks to increase number of female missile operators

After China incorporated the first female DF-15 ballistic missile company in the People's Liberation Army's main missile brigade, the Second Artillery Corps — the strategic missile force of the People's Liberation Army — will look to recruit more women into the fold, reports the Washington-based Strategy Page on Apr. 25.
The female company has been included into the First Conventional Missile Brigade of the Second Artillery Force. Originally, it was only a provisional unit, but the Central Military Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to make it a regular unit earlier this month as it has become harder for the military to find male soldiers qualified for the job, according to Strategy Page.
Released military photos have also shown multiple female launch crews for mobile DF-21 missiles. Currently, about 8% of China's military are female while women account for 15% of the US military.
Female recruits have performed well in technical jobs and about 12% of the crew on American warships are now female, said Strategy Page, adding that China is increasing the number of women serving on warship and is seeing success.
China's Second Artillery Corps controls most of the country's nuclear missiles as well as some missiles equipped with conventional warheads.

Unlike America and other Western developed countries are short of so called cannon fodder, recruit job for a 2.3 million armed force is not a problem at all for a nation with 1.3 billion population...LOL...that's another typical false news about china made up by the westen Discourse power...

Unlike the male and female 'mix' formation in western armed force, PLA set up the independent all female unit within the formation except the female Pilots. I have to say ,many such units are still experimental so far... female unit is with us all the time since the foundation of PLA, after 1949, the female was no longer allocated to combat unit and concentrated on " nursing, communication, and art " and some Transportation Pilot unit (the first two female astronauts came from this unit)...in this century, PLA set up some female 'combat' units to go with the trend of the times, some are very famous and well reported.

1. female combat airplane pilots
2. female missile launch units
3. female Special Recon company of PLAN Marine
4. female Special Force unit of Armed police
5. female crew on the PLAN large ships

the recruit is limited ,enrollment rate is about 1:100 to 1:1000,the applicants are active every June-July..

the Female missile unit was revealed in Mar 2010, they joined some military manoeuvre and launched two Missiles in July 2011...since then ,we already have the news report about this unit from time to time...

by the way ...so called DF21 unit mentioned in the Ariticle is another mistake...as we known, that unit is operating DF15B and DF15C SRBM.
