Jammu, May 1 (IANS) Chinese troops played host to an Indian Army delegation on their side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh region to mark May Day Saturday.
The Indian officers met their counterparts from the People's Liberation Army (PLA) on the latter's invitation opposite Chushul sector, said Colonel D.K. Kachari, spokesman for the Northern Command.

The occasion was to "celebrate International Labour Day", the spokesman said in a statement.

The Indian delegation was headed by Brigadier Y.K. Joshi. It was received by Senior Colonel Deng Guo Hua.

Brig Joshi offered condolences to victims of the April 14 earthquake that hit Qinghai region in north-west China.

"The meeting was held in an atmosphere of cooperation and camaraderie," the spokesman said. "Greetings were exchanged by both sides."

The two armies, which in 1962 went to war over their disputed border, also discussed ways to maintain peace along the LAC.

Saturday's meeting was one of six which the two sides hold on either side of the LAC every year, to mark national festivals and to discuss various issues.

The 646-km-long LAC in Ladakh sector is where Chinese troops intruded into India in 2008 and 2009.

The Chinese had also reportedly threatened local villagers in Demchok, 250 km east of Leh, in October last year and got a road work stopped.
