Together wuth the raising of No. 77 Squadron, named "Veiled Vipers", the Indian Air Force inducted the first c-130j super hercules aircraft, procured from USA, into service at IAF's Hindan Air Base, today. The Squadron will have all of six aircraft after their phased arrival by end 2011. I spoke to some of the pilots. The refuelling probe was removed for the ferry flight since there were fuel consumption implications as a result of the attendant drag. The probe will be fitted back shortly.

The hercules surely brings in the ability to the IAF which they still lacked and with An-32 in Upgradation process, its the good news that supplies will keep on coming through this transporters.

Don't forget we are co-developing and buying about 45 MTA along with the Russians, so i don't think we require such a high number of these Super Hercules.

PICTURES: India's first C-130J starts delivery flight

The Indian air force's first of six C-130J tactical transports has left Lockheed Martin's Marietta manufacturing site in Georgia, at the start of its delivery flight to Hindon air base.
To make its public debut at the Aero India show near Bangalore in early February, the aircraft is the nation's second production example, registered as KC-3802. It was formally handed over to the service in Marietta in mid-December, and Lockheed published images of its departure on 28 January.

India's acquisition is of six stretched-fuselage C-130J-30s, all of which will be delivered this year. It is also expected to approve a follow-on deal for another six.
