PIA ‘sacrifices black goat’ before flying ATR plane

ISLAMABAD: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) may have cleared the ATR planes for flying operations, but mere clearance seemed a half-job done for the authorities as they resorted to slaughter black goat to ward off any ‘untoward happening’ in view of looming fear, ARY News reported.

According to our correspondent Salahuddin, sacrifice of the goat was given at Islamabad airport on behalf of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

And the goat was slaughtered moments before the jet took off for first time after shakedown tests. The ‘ritual’ took place before Multan-bound flight left the Islamabad airport.

The PIA had grounded all of its 10 ATR aircrafts after the Civil Aviation Authority ordered shakedown tests of the planes.

The directions came after an ATR aircraft reportedly caught fire while on runway of Multan Airport before taking off last week.

The PIA airplane PK-581 with 48 passengers on board was set to take off from Multan to Karachi when it suffered a blaze incident.

According to PIA: “It has been decided to keep all 10 ATR aircraft grounded till they are cleared after thorough examination.”

The statement said the “temporary suspension of ATR operation” will affect PIA’s flights to smaller airports like Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur, Mohenjo Daro, Zhob, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Chitral and Gilgit.

PIA Kuala Lumpur-bound flight faces technical issue, diverted to Karachi

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight carrying 180 passengers from Lahore to Kuala Lumpur made an emergency landing at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi due to the technical fault on Monday (today).

PIA spokesman Danyal Gilani said after the diversion to Karachi, flight PK-898 took-off for Kuala Lumpur at 4:00 am.

“[The flight was] diverted due to technical reasons,” he told media, and did not confirm media reports alleging “hydraulic pipes had burst”.

He said the airline diverted the plane to Karachi instead of landing in KL as it did not want the plane to be stranded in Malaysia. It was diverted to Karachi as a “precautionary measure” because PIA’s engineering maintenance station is situated there, Gilani added.

Upon landing in Karachi, the aircraft was replaced with an alternate plane before the flight took off for the Malaysian capital at 4:00 AM local time.

A map on the plane tracking site FlightAware shows that after taking off from Lahore at 12:56 am, the flight was en route Malaysia over India when it diverted towards Karachi.

As a result of the diversion, the PK-898 which was scheduled to land in Kuala Lumpur at around 10 am landed at 2:14 pm.

17 kg heroin found in PIA plane

An attempt to smuggle 17 kilograms of heroin to Saudi Arabia was foiled at Karachi airport on Wednesday when security personnel discovered the contraband hidden away in a secret compartment of a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Boeing 777 aircraft.


This means that the drugs were not kept there by a passenger. PIA officials are involved. How pathetic.
