Tactic is the way..

But if one can get Proper equipment it would be much better and a edge..
In a Lake there are no fixed boundaries to contest.

They are merely notional and as per interpretation correlated with land based landmarks or GPS.

What better equipment is required?

Maybe I have missed something said on this thread which indicates so.

Sir,

The boats in the lake operate regularly, The boats available now don`t have:

1. Protection to crew from Enemy fire and Weather conditions..

2. These boats are not big or medium size hence their range is less in the lake, So does the carrying capacity of men..

3. Surveillance done vie Binoculars during day at night the operation is limited due to weather and surveillance equipment..

4. Lack of sonar makes these boats to operate only in limited known depths, their is no underwater mapping..

These issues are been look after in newer boats, Also newer boats have radars for pin pointing enemy air and surface targets Quickly..

I know we MOD cleared roads for New Advance Boats But going little Off-topic.. :D

Navy Expeditionary Combat Command units, Maritime Security Squadron 4 and RIVRON 1 are participating in an NECC integrated exercise as part of their pre-deployment certification process. The week-long exercise consists of land-based and waterborne scenarios that test the unit's ability to respond to various threats in a realistic training environment.
Off-topic, But isn't this is real - really overkill ?

The lake dries in winter, some old news indicates that India had stationed a couple of coast guard hovercrafts in the region, wonder what are the preparation from the Chinese side.

I presume tactics would be the decider.
We could use a swimsuit clad Veena Malik on a jet-ski. The PLA would be foxed - they would'nt know what to do? She is Pakistani so they cannot attack her, she is hot enough, so they ogle at her.

Indian troops may shoot at her instead, cause she is Pakistani.

India deploys Fast Interceptor Boats in Ladakh lake

India deploys hi-tech boats to counter China in Ladakh lake - The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Now, at least on one particular stretch along the unresolved 4,057-km Line of Actual Control (LAC), Indian soldiers can finally cock a snook at Chinese troops after years of being aggressively needled.

Indian soldiers are armed with spanking new high-tech QRT (quick-reaction team) boats to patrol the highly-picturesque but equally-contentious Pangong Tso (Tso means lake in Ladakhi) in eastern Ladakh, which has emerged as a major flashpoint between the world's largest and second-largest armies over the last decade.

Located at an altitude of 13,900-feet across the Changla Pass, Pangong Tso has also become a major tourist destination in recent years after the finale of Aamir Khan blockbuster "3 Idiots'' was shot there.

But the sheer tranquillity of the 134-km-long lake, two-thirds of which is controlled by China as it extends from Tibet to India, cannot hide the strategic game underway there. Equipped with over 20 well-armed boats, People's Liberation Army troops have been virtually running circles around Indian troops handicapped by slow, outdated vessels. In the past, Chinese boats have even disabled Indian boats by ramming into them.

"Now, we have received 11 of the 17 QRT boats, each of which can carry 16 to 18 soldiers, ordered from the US. With these high-speed interceptor boats, fitted with radars, infra-red and GPS systems, we can do robust reconnaissance and area domination patrols,'' said an officer.

"If the Chinese come one km into our territory, we can go three km into theirs. Earlier, apart from some smaller vessels, we had only a couple of large speed boats, mounted with machine guns and capable of carrying 10 soldiers,'' he added.

As earlier reported by TOI, Chinese troops have notched up over 550 "transgressions'' into Indian territory in all the three sectors — western (Ladakh), middle (Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh) and eastern (Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh) — of the LAC just since January, 2010.

Eastern Ladakh has borne the brunt of this "increasingly assertive'' behaviour by China. The strategically-located Pangong Tso, the largest brackish water lake in Asia, itself records close to 100 "transgressions'' of foot, motorised and boat patrols by PLA every year. The region became an even bigger flashpoint when, during the 1999 Kargil conflict with Pakistan, China even constructed a ``track'' right up to the lake's southern bank.

The QRT boats in Pangong Tso are part of India's belated overall efforts to build military assets and infrastructure along the LAC to strategically counter China, which now has five full-fledged airbases, an extensive rail network and over 58,000-km of roads in Tibetan Autonomous Region.

re: India deploys Fast Interceptor Boats in Ladakh lake

No bad, you guys at last get them.

On equal terms with China on the Pangong Lake
Ajai Shukla / Kolkata Sep 18, 2009, 00:54 IST

Indian soldiers, who patrolled the stunningly beautiful Pangong Tso Lake in Ladakh, rarely got the opportunity to enjoy the scenery. As their vintage assault boats approached the Line of Actual Control with China (two thirds of the 134-kilometer long lake is under Chinese control) sleek Chinese speedboats would surge towards them, turning sharply away at the last minute to strike a glancing blow that rocked the Indian boats.

Indian soldiers were sometimes thrown out of their boats by the impact, but they had to bear the indignity. Since 1993, when China and India signed an Agreement on Peace and Tranquillity, not a shot has been fired on the LAC.

To restrain the Chinese boat-bumpers, India equipped its lake patrols a couple of years back with bigger, more rugged, army assault boats. But, even if the bumping stopped, the Chinese boats still ran rings around the Indians.

Now, the Pangong Tso playing field will become more level. The army will soon patrol in modern, indigenously-built Fast Interceptor Boats (FIBs) that can travel faster than the Chinese boats, while carrying 16 fully equipped jawans to respond to a crisis.

Rear Admiral K C Sekhar, Chairman and Managing Director of the public sector Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, confirmed to Business Standard, "We have received a Request for Proposal (RfP) from the army. They want 17 FIBs for deployment in a high altitude, extreme cold environment. We have prepared a design which we hope will be accepted."

Sources in the army confirm that the boats will be deployed on the Pangong Tso.

GRSE is offering the army a modified version of the 12-tonne FIB it is building for the Home Ministry. Built of glass-reinforced plastic (GRP), and capable of a scorching 38 knots (70 kmph), these FIBs were designed by Greek shipbuilder, Motomarine. GRSE bought this design, along with that of a smaller 5-tonne FIB, for building 78 such boats by September 2010 for coastal police forces of states along the Bay of Bengal. Goa Shipyard Limited is simultaneously building the same boats for the Arabian Sea coast.

GRSE's Deputy General Manager (Design), JN Roy, says the army's requirements are specific, but they can be quickly met. "These boats must be capable of operating in a bitterly cold, high-altitude environment, unlike the humid tropical climate of the coast. [The Pangong Tso is at 13,900 feet] The army boats also need higher endurance, allowing them to remain on station longer. And finally, we will build a cabin for the 16 soldiers on each boat, providing protection from the weather as well as from small arms fire."

Meanwhile, the army is wondering where they can hold trials for the FIBs; conveying them all the way to Pangong Tso would involve too much expense and effort.

Do you really read the comments in ToI articles?

The masses of stupidity that converge upon ToI articles and end up commenting there will take away any decent man's sanity.

I read the comments to see if I could find a link to a photo of the QRT boats, because there was no photo in the article. That is, I did not read the comments to find any particular wisdom there. :)
