The ISI is definitely involved,” the PML-N worker Shafkat Mehmood Malik told the Guardian.

Others who attended the protest told the Guardian that a long-standing tradition of not criticising the army was breaking down. “No one used to blame ISI directly,” Zahid Hussain Satti said, “not even the prime minister. But the army is losing popularity all over Pakistan, not only in Punjab.”
game over...

Pakistan SC asks government how 2 top ex-generals were allowed to take up foreign employment

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Supreme Court today asked the government how it allowed two former top army generals to take up jobs abroad despite a law barring officers from accepting employment for two years post-retirement, according to a media report.

Hearing a case of dual nationalities of Pakistan government employees, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Saqib Nisar, observed that former army chief General (retd) Raheel Sharif and Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lieutenant General (retd) Shuja Pasha had found employment abroad within two-years after retirement, Geo News reported. After retirement in 2016, Gen. Sharif left for Riyadh to head a military alliance of Muslim countries led by Saudi Arabia.

According to Pakistani media reports, after retirement in 2012, the former ISI chief worked with a multinational firm based in the UAE.
He now serves as group chief adviser to a Lahore-based firm owned by a Pakistani politician. “According to the law, government officers cannot sign an employment contract abroad for two years after their retirement. Generals Pasha and Sharif, both, found employment abroad. Is the law not applicable to army officers?” the chief justice asked.

Defence Secretary Lt Gen (retd) Zamir-ul-Hassan Shah informed the apex court that both retired officers had obtained a no-objection certificate (NOC) prior to leaving the country for employment.

Oh well, so what's new? The Paki Army is a law onto itself. Dare anyone look them in the eye. Nawaz got screwed because he did. And now it seems the Chief Justice is next in line.

Pakistan set to become even more dangerous with Army-Imran at helm: Former CIA analyst

The most dangerous country in the world just got considerably more dangerous, a veteran South Asia analyst has cautioned about the election outcome in Pakistan that has pitched former cricketer Imran Khan to power. On its part, the Trump administration said it looks forward to working with the new government of Pakistan and furthering the goals of security and stability in the region.

Warning about Pakistan’s road ahead came from Bruce Riedel, a former CIA analyst and White House official, who took a dim view of the election of Khan, widely seen as a stooge of the Pakistani military, and a man he said blames Pakistan’s problems on America, and is the ''most anti-American politician in South Asia.''

''Khan is an outspoken defender of the army and is closely aligned with the Islamist movements patronized by the ISI. He is a frequent critic of the United States which he says treats Pakistan like a ‘doormat’'', Riedel wrote in a commentary, while maintaining that there is ''compelling evidence'' that the army is supporting Khan, intimidating his opponents and suppressing the press to get him to power.

Riedel, who was centerstage in Washington as a Clinton White House aide during the Kargil war that ended in disaster for Islamabad, said the Pakistan Army soured on Nawaz Sharif years ago and was especially alarmed when he blamed the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack on the ISI. The ISI was certainly responsible for the Mumbai operation, but to acknowledge that is verboten in Pakistan, he explained.

However, Riedel suggested that the Army-Imran Khan dalliance could be shortlived. ''I have been impressed by Khan’s determination when I’ve met him, but also by his proclivity for conspiracy theories no matter how irresponsible. He has a reputation for independence and volatility. His political movement is almost a cult of personality. The generals may find him hard to control,'' he wrote in the Daily Beast.

Meanwhile, the state department offered a cautious welcome to the changing of the guards in Pakistan, a process that remains incomplete. "As Pakistan’s elected leaders form a new government, the United States will look for opportunities to work with them to advance our goals of security, stability, and prosperity in South Asia," a statement from the State Department said, after months of cold shouldering Pakistan because of its undermining of US policy in Afghanistan.

Riedel pointed out that ''Imran Khan has said that it would be a ‘bitter pill’ to have to meet with Trump if he Khan is prime minister, but one he would swallow,'' while snarkily noting that ''He probably doesn’t have to worry. South Asia is not a priority for the Trump administration.''

''The president has made clear he wants to bring Americans home from Afghanistan and wash his hands of the war there. His hard-line rhetoric on Pakistan is unlikely to persuade Khan and the army to press the Taliban to peace negotiations. So far Trump has been all talk and no action about Pakistan’s ties to terrorism,'' the former CIA analyst wrote.

Pakistan, he said, desperately needs good governance and a healthy civil-military relationship with the civilians in charge. It needs to abandon terrorism and slow down its nuclear weapons drive to devote attention and resources to development and infrastructure. It is becoming dangerously dependent on China. It has a self-interest in warming relations with India. Above all, it needs stable and experienced leadership.

Was in touch with former Pak PM Nawaz Sharif, ISI and Hafiz Saeed: Arrested Kashmiri separatist leader Asiya Andrabi

Asiya Andrabi, leader of Kashmir based all-women outfit Dukhtaraan-e-Milat (DeM), told National Investigation Agency (NIA) that she was in regular touch with former prime minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, his former foreign policy adviser Sartaz Aziz, high commission officials in Delhi, former ISI chief Hamid Gul other then global terrorists - Hafiz Saeed and Syed Salahuddin to discuss freeing 'Kashmir' from India.

TOI exclusively accessed the interrogation report of 56-year-old chief of DeM, who is facing NIA investigation for helping terrorists, their alleged funding, provocative speeches and related anti-India activities.

She discloses that she sent a letter to Nawaz Sharif in 2014 stating, "Pakistan is not doing anything for Kashmir". Sharif replied to her saying, "We are doing our best".

Later, on November 28, 2015 when her mother died, Nawaz Sharif sent her a condolence letter through post.

During her one-to-one meetings with Sartaz Aziz, then Pakistan high commissioner in India Abdul Basit and Deputy high commissioner Syed Haidar Shah- whose name was saved by Andrabi in her mobile as 'Beta Haidar'- at Pakistan high commission in Delhi in 2014, she told them that Pakistan was taking Kashmir issue casually".

She was informed by Pakistani officials that there is a Kashmir Committee in Pakistan looking after the issue and sought suggestions from her on what should be done.

During her conversations with Hafiz Saeed, which took place on regular basis, Andrabi told him to "pressurise Pakistan government since you are powerful person there". She spoke to the Lashkar-e-Taiba chief at the time of his wife Umi Talha's death, his nephew Abdul Rehman Makki's death, Kashmir floods, after the killing of Burhan Wani and several other occasions.

Saeed's first wife - Umi- was also in regular touch with Andrabi in an all-female group named 'Dukhtaraan-e-Taiba' where they mostly discussed personal issues. Umi Talha died in 2016.

She further disclosed that Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin too called her regularly. "She even asked him to convince Pakistan government to talk to the United Nations (UN) on Kashmir issue," reads her interrogation report.

"Salahuddin once called me to pass on a message to Syed Ali Shah Geelani (Hurriyat chief) that his son-in-law Altaf Ahmad Shah and Hurriyat spokesperson Ayaz Akbar are getting closer to him, leaving no space for others. I conveyed the message to Geelani sahib, but he denied it (charge of Salahuddin)," she tells NIA.

Salahuddin's wife Noor Jahan also interacted with her. Jahan, who is a Kashmiri, married Salahuddin in 2009. Interestingly, Asiya Andrabi had warned Noor about not marrying Salahuddin.

Her interrogation has further revealed that she regularly addressed, through Skype or WhatsApp audio messages, the events organised in the United States or London by "Friends of Kashmir" Group or "Tehreek-e-Kashmir" or at Pakistan consulates abroad.

Andrabi justified stone pelting at Indian forces as she claims that India and its forces are "satan".

Militancy fears
A SPATE of terror attacks in the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan is worrying and mystifying. A sudden eruption of violence over the weekend, with arson attacks on a number of schools in the Diamer region, and helter-skelter attempts by the security apparatus to find the culprits, took another turn on Sunday. Militants on higher ground attacked security personnel and government officials travelling by road below, effectively cutting off two tehsils of Diamer district and narrowly failing in an assassination attempt on a district and sessions judge. The sudden eruption of violence in a region that has been relatively calm in recent times has brought quick explanations from security officials.

As Trump cracks down on Pakistan, U.S. cuts military training programs

ISLAMABAD / WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump’s administration has quietly started cutting scores of Pakistani officers from coveted training and educational programs that have been a hallmark of bilateral military relations for more than a decade, U.S. officials say.

The move, which has not been previously reported, is one of the first known impacts from Trump’s decision this year to suspend U.S. security assistance to Pakistan to compel it to crack down on Islamic militants.

The effective suspension of Pakistan from the U.S. government’s International Military Education and Training program (IMET) will close off places that had been set aside for 66 Pakistani officers this year, a State Department spokesperson told Reuters.

The places will either be unfilled or given to officers from other countries.

The State Department spokesperson, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the IMET cancellations were valued at $2.41 million so far. At least two other programs have also been affected, the spokesperson said.

It is unclear precisely what level of military cooperation still continues outside the IMET program, beyond the top level contacts between U.S. and Pakistani military leaders.

The U.S. military has traditionally sought to shield such educational programs from political tensions, arguing that the ties built by bringing foreign military officers to the United States pay long-term dividends.

For example, the U.S. Army’s War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, which would normally have two Pakistani military officers per year, boasts graduates including Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar, the current director-general of Pakistan’s powerful spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI).

The War College, the U.S. Army’s premier school for foreign officers, says it has hosted 37 participants from Pakistan over the past several decades. It will have no Pakistani students in the upcoming academic year, a spokeswoman said.

Pakistan has also been removed from programs at the U.S. Naval War College, Naval Staff College and courses including cyber security studies.

Pakistani Senator Mushahid Hussain, chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, told Reuters that a U.S. decision to cut off such exchanges would be counter-productive and push Pakistan’s military towards other countries.

“It is one of those silly, punitive measures that they have deployed,” said Hussain, who sat next to a Chinese and Pakistani flag in his office. ( )

And this bugger Senator Mushahid Hussain, chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee of Pak sits next to a Chinese and Pakistani flag in his office and gets pissed off at the denial of American largess!! Lol! Bloody whores of their Chinese masters!

Security officials inspect the scene of the incident.

A bus carrying a team working on the Saindak Copper-Gold Mine project was attacked by a suicide bomber near Dalbandin bypass in Dalbandin, Balochistan, levies sources said on Saturday.

The team, which included Chinese employees working on the project, was under the protection of the 75 Wing of the Frontier Constabulary (FC). It was on its way to Dalbandin from Saindak district in Chaghi when it was targeted by a suicide bomber.

According to security sources, the bomber attacked using a Zamyad truck, an Iranian-manufactured vehicle commonly used to transport oil. The area lies next to Pakistan's eastern border with Iran.

The truck was completely destroyed in the attack. The bus being used to transfer the team was also heavily damaged.

At least three foreigners and two FC soldiers were injured. The nature of their injuries is yet to be ascertained.

They have been shifted to Arab Hospital Dalbandin and are receiving treatment, and are reported to be in stable condition
