Muhammad cartoon contest in Netherlands sparks Pakistan protests

Thousands of Islamists have set off on a protest march in Pakistan to demand Imran Khan’s new government sever diplomatic ties with the Netherlands over a “blasphemous” cartoon competition.

The march, organised by Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP), a political party dedicated to the punishment of blasphemy,:daru::daru:

presents the first major test of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) administration. Last year, a similar protest by the TLP shut down the capital, Islamabad, for almost a month.

In June, Geert Wilders, the anti-Islam MP who leads the Netherlands’ second largest party and has been found guilty of inciting hatred, invited submissions of cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad, which Islam forbids. The $10,000 (£7,700) competition is due to open in November, with 200 entries so far.

“We can be martyred or arrested,” said one of the TLP’s leaders, Peer Afzal Qadri, “but we will not return until either the cartoon contest is stopped or the Dutch envoy is expelled.”

Several thousand activists set out on Wednesday from the eastern city of Lahore for Islamabad, where they plan to stage a sit-in.

Khadim Rizvi, the firebrand cleric who founded the TLP, said that condemnation of the contest by the Pakistani government was not enough and “only jihad” was the solution.

Before Pakistan’s general election last month, Rizvi said if he had the power he would order a nuclear strike against the Netherlands if its government allowed the competition to go ahead.

The Dutch prime minister, Mark Rutte, has termed the event “disrespectful” but defended the right to hold it on the grounds of freedom of expression.

On Monday, Pakistan’s senate passed a resolution condemning the competition and Khan vowed to take up the issue at the UN general assembly in September.:pound::pound:
He said Islamic countries should cooperate to create laws against blasphemy similar to those against Holocaust denial in European countries.

“If they [western countries] feel pained discussing the Holocaust, why haven’t we been able to convey to the west how much we feel pained when they do blasphemous things against Islam and our beloved Holy Prophet, peace be upon him?” said Khan.

The TLP knows how to force the government’s hand. For three weeks in November, Rizvi and about 2,000 followers blockaded a motorway between Islamabad and its sister city, Rawalpindi, over minor adjustments to an election oath they declared blasphemous. The army eventually brokered a deal with the government, which included the dismissal of the law minister, Zahid Hamid, and further concessions.

The protest puts Khan in a difficult position, analysts said, as during the run-up to the election he was using the “same kind of rhetoric” on blasphemy as the TLP.

Fasi Zaka told the Guardian the “question is whether he treats [the TLP] with kid gloves”, as the previous administration did, or sets a timeline for the protest and prevents a similar gathering on a public motorway. There is some irony to the current face-off, Zaka added, as Khan’s popularisation of lengthy street protests likely provided some inspiration to the TLP.

Dutch police arrest man said plotting to kill Geert Wilders over Muhammad images
Suspect detained at Hague main railway station after firebrand politician announces Muslim prophet cartoon competition

THE HAGUE, Netherlands — Dutch police on Tuesday arrested a man suspected of planning an attack against far-right politician Geert Wilders after he said he intended to hold a Prophet Muhammad cartoon competition.

Police said in a statement they arrested the still unidentified suspect at the main railway station in The Hague.

He was being questioned and was expected to appear before a judge on Friday, the statement said.

Police said they had been alerted by a video on Facebook in which the 26-year-old man talked about attacking anti-Islam MP Wilders, as well as the Dutch parliament.

Wilders, who announced plans for a competition of Muhammad cartoons earlier this year, said he had been told about the plot by the Netherlands’ counter-terrorism police, NCTb.

“I was told by NCTb this morning that a man on Facebook had said that he had arrived in the Netherlands for the purpose of killing me,” Wilders said via his Twitter account.

“Fortunately, he has been arrested. It is madness that this is happening because of a drawing contest and that it is raining death threats.”

In June, Wilders tweeted that he had received clearance to hold the competition in his party’s parliamentary offices.

The contest is to be judged by American cartoonist and self-defined “recovered Muslim” Bosch Fawstin, who won a similar contest in the US in 2015. Two armed men opened fire on a security officer outside that competition, and were subsequently killed.

The head of the Netherlands’ Party for Freedom or PVV, Wilders is known for his virulent anti-Islam statements.

Last week, Pakistan expressed objections to what it described as the “blasphemous” cartoon competition and summoned a high-ranking Dutch diplomat in Islamabad to protest.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte also described the competition as “disrespectful” and “provocative,” even though he defended the principle of freedom of expression.

Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok also insisted that the competition was not a government initiative.

Images of Muhammad — prohibited according to Muslim belief — have in the past been met by death threats and murder.

Two French terrorists who had sworn allegiance to al-Qaeda killed 12 people at satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo’s offices in 2015 with the terrorists notably seeking to punish the staunchly atheist magazine for printing cartoons of the prophet.

TLP marches on Islamabad with demand to cut Dutch ties

  • Kick out the Netherlands' ambassador and call back our envoy from there, Khadim Rizvi to PTI government
  • The religio-political party also demands of Pakistani government to take strict measures against the US since the contest's judge is an American national

LAHORE – Thousands of Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) supporters have started marching towards the Pakistan’s capital city to stage a massive demonstration against a competition of blasphemous caricatures, depicting Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), in the Netherlands.

Khadim Hussain Rizvi of Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), a religio-political party that backs strict blasphemy laws, is leading the march which made its way out of Lahore via Grand Truck Road. Hundreds of activists gathered at Data Darbar on Wednesday for the demonstration organised by the ultra-conservative party that amassed the fifth largest number of votes in a general election last month.

The 51-year-old cleric has announced that TLP workers would “stay on the streets until either the publication of blasphemous cartoons in the Netherlands is stopped or the government immediately ends diplomatic ties with the Dutch”.

— Khadim Hussain Rizvi (@KhadimRizviReal) August 29, 2018

The demand for the envoy’s expulsion was made during the first round of talks between TLP’s top leadership and the government in Lahore.

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri and the Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat represented the government in the meeting, while Muhammad Afzal Qadri, Allama Waheed Noor and Dr Amini from the TLP were also present.

Most Muslims believe in a total prohibition of visual representation of the prophet, regardless of whether they are positive or negative in nature.

Earlier, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government was urged to not only “discontinue diplomatic and commercial relations with the Netherlands” but also “demand from other Islamic countries to do the same”.

The TLP had also demanded that since the said competition’s judge is an American national, “therefore, strict measures should also be taken against the US”.

The blasphemous cartoon contest, scheduled for November, is being organised in the Netherlands by Dutch Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders — a right-wing anti-Islam lawmaker who has been widely criticised for his far-right activities. The contest is to be judged by American cartoonist and former Muslim Bosch Fawstin, who won a similar contest in the US in 2015.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has distanced his government from the controversial contest, clarifying that: “Wilders is not a member of the [Dutch] government. The competition is not a government initiative.”

In a tweet on Wednesday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said that Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi spoke with his Dutch counterpart to discuss the issue of “blasphemous caricatures”.

— Dr Mohammad Faisal (@ForeignOfficePk) August 29, 2018

“The FM expressed concern on the announcement of [the] abominable and sacrilegious competition by Geert Wilders,” read the tweet, adding that the Dutch FM made it clear that his government was neither associated nor supporting the event.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said he planned to take up the issue with the United Nations and several world leaders.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in July condemned the planned competition.

OIC Secretary-General Yousef bin Ahmed al Othaimeen called it a “provocative” move, which would sow seeds of hate among different religious groups. “Freedom of speech does not mean hurting someone’s feelings…” Othaimeen said.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan said, “They don’t understand how much they hurt us when they do such acts,” a day after the upper house of parliament condemned the proposed cartoon competition.

TLP, a political faction of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYRA), had attained notoriety after it effectively paralysed life in Islamabad for 20 days in November 2017 over a change in wording to an electoral law, changing a religious oath to a simple declaration. TLP said the change amounted to blasphemy.

Protesters had occupied the Faizabad Interchange which connects Rawalpindi and Islamabad through the Islamabad Expressway and Murree Road, both of which are the busiest roads in the twin cities.

The then governing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz party (PMLN) was forced to accept the resignation of law minister Zahid Hamid, whom TLP held responsible for the change, after seven people were killed and nearly 200 wounded in a failed attempt by police to disperse protesters.

Khadim Hussain Rizvi calls off Islamabad sit-in after striking deal with govt

TLP founder, Khadim Rizvi who has been confined to a wheelchair after an accident in 2006, earlier continued to raise his voice for the release of Mumtaz Qadri – the elite police commando who gunned down former Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer in Islamabad’s uptown market in January 2011.

Qadri was hanged after being found guilty of Taseer’s murder. Since then, his grave has turned into a shrine for those who agree with his position on Pakistan’s blasphemy laws.

A staunch follower of Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi, the 19th century founder of the Barelvi sect of Islam, Khadim Rizvi made his first entry into mainstream politics in the by-polls of NA120, the elected constituency of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif which fell vacant after his disqualification amid Panama Papers investigations

Pakistan’s disgraced cricketer offers Rs3m reward for killing Dutchmen behind blasphemous cartoon contest (VIDEO)

  • TLP, a religio-political party, is set to march on Islamabad to press the federal government to end diplomatic ties with the Netherlands
  • PM Imran Khan calls it a “collective failure” of Muslim countries for the absence of an international policy against blasphemous content
Pakistan
by Dawood Rehman | Published on August 27, 2018 (Edited August 28, 2018)

LAHORE – Khalid Latif, who was handed five-year ban for his role in the spot-fixing scandal that engulfed the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017, has announced a reward to anyone who will kill the Dutchmen behind a blasphemous cartoon competition that depicts Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be upon Him).

In a video shared on Facebook, the 32-year-old batsman announced to put a Rs3 million bounty on the heads of firebrand Dutch politician Geert Wilders and his far-right party colleagues while expressing his pain and anguish over the sacrilegious artwork in the Netherlands.

On June 12, the Dutch Party for Freedom, led by Geert Wilders and known for its opposition to Islam and Muslim immigration to the Netherlands and Europe in general, announced that it would hold a contest for caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in its offices in the Dutch parliament.

PVV is the second-largest party in the Dutch House of Representatives.

Wilders tweeted that he had received clearance from the Dutch counterterrorism agency – National Coordinator of Counterterrorism and Security (NCTV) – to hold the competition in his party’s parliamentary offices.

The contest is to be judged by American cartoonist and former Muslim Bosch Fawstin, who won a similar contest in the US in 2015.

The initiative quickly provoked furious responses and calls for its cancellation that were shared on social networks, as well as overt threats from Muslims against Wilders and other contest participants.

Dutch far-right politician Geert Wilders of the PVV party speaks to his supporters during a PVV demonstration against the policy of Prime Minister and his cabinet in Rotterdam.
In 2015, two French terrorists who had sworn allegiance to al-Qaeda killed 12 people at satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo’s offices with the terrorists notably seeking to punish the staunchly atheist magazine for printing cartoons of the Prophet (PBUH).

The attack was the first in a wave of terror attacks in France over the past three years that have left more than 240 people dead.

Meanwhile, Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), a religio-political party, has decided to come at roads and “stay on the streets until either the publication of blasphemous cartoons in the Netherlands end or the government immediately ends diplomatic ties with the Dutch”.

TLP, which emerged as the fifth largest political party in the General Elections 2018, urged the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government to not only “discontinue diplomatic and commercial relations with the Netherlands” but also “demand from other Islamic countries to do the same”.

Moreover, Maulana Khadim Rizvi-led TLP also demands that since the said competition’s judge is an American national, “therefore, strict measures should also be taken against the US”. According to the sources, the party “will take to the streets at 2 pm on Wednesday (August 29) and begin from Data Darbar Lahore its march towards the capital.”

Today, in his maiden address to the Senate, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that his government will raise the issue of blasphemous caricatures in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) while putting the blame of such incidents on lack of unity among the Muslim countries.

PM Imran called it a “collective failure” of Muslim countries for the absence of an international policy against blasphemous content.

The prime minister said that though the government will raise the issue with the UN, he didn’t think it would be of much use, adding that his government will raise the matter in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and formulate a collective policy which could then be presented at international forums.

Earlier today, the Senate passed a resolution to bring the UN’s attention to the matter regarding the controversial announcement by the leader of Dutch Freedom Party.

“This House strongly condemns the venomous, vicious and contemptuous decision of Geert Wilders, the notorious Islamophobe, belonging to the Dutch Party of Freedom, to hold a ‘Draw Muhammad Cartoon Competition’ to be held later this year in Netherlands,” read the resolution.

Senate unanimously adopts resolution against blasphemous caricatures

“The House considers that the proposed competition tantamount to inciting hatred, racial prejudice, unrest, conflict and insecurity in a world that has already seen much bloodshed, racism, extremism, intolerance and Islamophobia and badly needs peace, interfaith harmony, mutual respect and tolerance.”

“The Senate of Pakistan reaffirms that the love for our beloved Prophet (SAW) is beyond any doubt a part of our faith and no Muslim can tolerate any such vicious, contemptuous and calculated insult of our beloved Prophet (SAW),” the resolution added.

On August 20, Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) had called the charge d’affaires of the Netherlands to record a protest against Wilders’ announcement to hold a competition of blasphemous caricatures.

According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Pakistan’s Ambassador in The Hague was also instructed “to forcefully raise the issue with the Dutch government along with Ambassadors of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.”

Over 220 million people live in Pakistan, making it the sixth largest nation in the world. Islam is the state religion of Pakistan, and about 95-98% of Pakistanis are Muslim.

Dutch lawmaker cancels sacrilegious caricatures contest after massive protest in Pakistan

  • Blasphemous cartoon contest in the Netherlands has offended Muslims
World
by Muhammad Irfan | Published on August 31, 2018 (Edited August 31, 2018)

THE HAGUE – Dutch anti-Islam lawmaker Geert Wilders says he has cancelled a planned Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) sacrilegious cartoon contest following death threats and concerns other people could be put at risk.

In a written statement issued Thursday night, Wilders said: “to avoid the risk of victims of Islamic violence, I have decided not to let the sacrilegious cartoon contest go ahead.”

Wilders, who has for years lived under round-the-clock protection because of death threats sparked by his fierce anti-Islam rhetoric, said he does not want others endangered by the contest he planned for November.

The contest was to have the at the tightly guarded offices of his Party for Freedom in the Dutch parliament building.

A Dutch judge is extending by two weeks the detention of a 26-year-old man who allegedly threatened to attack the organizer of a Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) blasphemous cartoon contest.

Prosecutors said in a statement Thursday that an investigating judge ordered the suspect held while he is investigated on charges of making a terrorist threat, making preparations for a terrorist murder and incitement.

The man, reportedly a Pakistani citizen, was arrested Tuesday in The Hague on suspicion of terror offences after he allegedly posted the threat, in Urdu, on Facebook a day earlier. Prosecutors say he was not armed.

The upcoming contest was being organized by anti-Islam lawmaker Geert Wilders. It has sparked protests in Pakistan. Physical depictions of the Prophet (PBUH) are forbidden in Islam and deeply offensive to Muslims.

Salim khan mocked this incident and compared it to a story where a blind man got a push in train. He took out gun and fired in which few people got killed except that guy who had pushed him. Stupid people get offended very easily.

Applies to Hindus too. See how easy it is to provoke Hindus using caste, religion, temple, cows, gods, etc. Both communities seem overly emotional and silly at times.

Nice. No hard work needed to isolate porkis We can arrange cartoon competitions in all relevant countries. Porkis will isolate themselves.

“If they [western countries] feel pained discussing the Holocaust, why haven’t we been able to convey to the west how much we feel pained when they do blasphemous things against Islam and our beloved Holy Prophet, peace be upon him?” said Khan.
Apparently there was no pain in the peaceful rise of islam by peacefully slaughtering hundreds of millions over a span of 2 millennia, which still shows no sign of stopping btw.

Spot fixing, which is similar to cheating/stealing/gambling is also prohibited by Islam. THAT is not blasphemy for this guy and cartoon competition is?

This is hilarious. International policy against blasphemy?:rofl::rofl:

Icarus the taqiya welding closet jehadi, with "evil" Narendra Modi dp or naturally behaving commie ,xtian , I ignore his posts most of the time, you should do so too ,his posts are mostly but but Hindus do that too , there's no difference between Hindus and jehadis etc etc.
You've misunderstood. I am saying emotional people can be easily manipulated by a third party. Britain, for example, knew the hindu weakness for beef. So they used to place beef in hindu temples, knowing well that hindus were emotional and would blame muslims. Riots would follow, and britain would smile watching two overemotional communities fight.
