Pakistan will not accept India as UNSC permanent member: Nawaz - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan made it clear to the United States on Thursday it would not accept India as a permanent member of United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed these reservations while speaking with US President Barack Obama on the phone, the PM House said in a statement.

The prime minister said India cannot become a UNSC permanent member due to its non-compliance of all the resolutions passed by UN regarding Kashmir, added the spokesman.

The US president called Nawaz in the evening where both the leaders discussed issues of mutual interest and those related to regional stability and peace for over half-an-hour, said the statement.

The spokesman said the prime minister made it clear upon the US president that permanent slot for India at the UNSC will not be tolerated at any cost as India has not fulfilled any resolution passed by UN aimed at assuring the right of self determination for the people of Kashmir.

During his visit to India last month, Obama had lent his support to India's bid for UN Security Council's membership which was seen in Pakistan as contempt of democracy and human rights.

"India is by no means eligible to become a permanent member of UN," the prime minister was quoted as saying. Nawaz also conveyed Pakistan's desire to become a member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group.

Meanwhile, Obama informed Nawaz about his recent trip to India and also congratulated the prime minister on the success of Operation Zarb-i-Azb.

Barack Obama visited India on January 25 and became the first US president to make two official visits to India during his tenure.

During the trip Indian Premier Narendar Modi and Obama announced they had reached an agreement to provide civilian nuclear technology to India that was signed in 2008 but had been held up by US concerns over liability in the event of a nuclear accident.

During his visit to India, Obama also became the first US president to attend the spectacular military and cultural display in a sign of the nations' growing closeness.

Tough luck Nawaz Sharrif.

Look at your own country, how have you made it into a Jehadis headquarter. Now you want a parity. Get lost.
pack also perhaps should protest Israel's Rahm Emanuel as chief of white House staff, Israel Control of Fed Reserve Bank, Total Israel Dual. Citizenry of us state Dept. Israeli Senators captainship in ALL Major Senate Committees. . does Israel care a hoot?

We have a unique opportunity ahead of us in the USA via our super-high achieving community there ; let's not waste it by giving attention to a silly pack

So like Israel we should continue the high achievements, befriend the various Israeli lobbyists., and Pack can wish all they want.

Achieving this is more important than UNsc. .. Look at Israel- are they bothered about UNsc? .

As we succeed in befriending the Israelis in the US. system, dont you fear, UNsc will be offered to us on a silver. platter and I prefer It that way - as a by product - . . our aim has to be in economy and the "correct" alignment
of our middle-east policies.. . . . then what we want becomes a small matter

No person can rule Pakistan unless he/she keep perpetuating "Hate India" policy as Pakistanis have been brainwashed for decades by their military dictators that India is the enemy and that they need to protect Pakistanis........this is the way they can continue to rule Pakistanis.

UNSC permanent is one kind of reassurance and trump card for India's territorial integrity.

UNSC permanent membership is very crucial for India. There are positives and negatives associated with countries. India ticks in most of the criteria to get the UNSC permanent seat. As a country India's positives out weigh negatives, add to that the promise with which India comes and takes a positive role on world stage.

Regarding Kashmir, Kashmiri people voted in large percentage in elections. They are ruling themselves under the umbrella of Indian democracy. Every one knows how Kashmir used to be a tourist attraction and a peaceful land before Pakistan started meddling in Indian state. Indian democracy can/will find the solution for Kashmiri issues in a democratic way, acceptable to the world. Pakistan need not have to worry about a princely state which joined India officially because of aggressive invasion of Pakistani armed forces.

Kashmir issue has been a unifying factor and a diversion tactic for Pakistani politicians.
For India this is about territorial integrity and secularism.
For the west and anti Islamic forces, even though this conflict has no resemblance to Palestine conflict, this is acting as a pressure point to demoralise Muslims in Sub Continent. To show how helpless the fellow muslims are under Indian armed forces. The daily pics showing Indian military as oppressors is helping this cause. The fact is the propaganda and the actual happenings are completely different. India is giving the law and order control to native Kashmiris gradually.

what is Operation Zarb-i-Azb - why was this brought up

what is Nuclear Suppliers Group - why was this brought up

what is USA policy (is it without thought are they clueless) - why was this not brought up

what is Paki wisdom not listened to by everyone - why was this not spoken about

not sure if it is true what was said between the two chaps but if it is true (it is carried by Paki newspaper and sometimes the news from there is doubtful).

it would be better if Pakis proclaim them selves to be Sunni warrior (with nuke) guardians of entire earth. they have lost their voice it seems. no one wants to take them seriously. but on the other side obama calling the twice also shows there is a underlying (fear??) importance shown to Pakis. is this policy and approach in conjunction with PRC and consultation. not sure if that is the case since it would be more sophisticated if PRC was involved in foreign affairs and not over a telephone conversation. is Paki miffed because of signals from PRC ...

anyone that does not support UNSC bid for India will and has to be branded to be Pro-Paki and also Anti-Indian. they have told the entire world that it is not about the process and representation of UN but about individual relationship.

who would Paki like to be on permanent UNSC member -> North Korea - even to perhaps Japan with PRC agreeing. why not Saudi Arabia. Some will say even Pakistan.

India needs to play it up and shift it to next gear and get France to declare openly (especially with their Islamic issues recently fresh) and also in return for the Rafael jet deal progression. The visit by Modi to Europe will be good to observe. Germany needs to be clubbed with France into a European Union UNSC seat.

we need to push for the UNSC reform more. it will be good for the world when India becomes UNSC permanent member.
