18 F-16s for PAKISTAN by June 2010

US to give 1,000 laser-guided bomb kits to Pakistan

To provide 18 new F-16s by June

WASHINGTON: The US will deliver this month to Pakistan 1,000 sophisticated laser-guided bomb kits that would enable the government there to strike insurgent targets with more precision.

Lt-Col Jeffry Glenn, an Air Force spokesman, said on Tuesday the US also plans to provide Pakistan 18 new F-16 fighter jets by June. The arms sale suggests that the US officials are trying to deepen their relationship with Pakistan and increase military cooperation.

The US has been trying to encourage Pakistan to take a tougher stand against the Taliban forces operating within its borders. Lt-Col Jeffry Glenn said the US had delivered 1,000 MK-82 bombs to Pakistan last month. This month’s shipment of kits would enable Pakistan to use sophisticated laser technology to guide the bombs to specific targets, he added.

US-Pak air forces conduct joint refuelling operation

* American pilots, crew from 22nd Expeditionary Air Refuelling Squadron participate in the exercise

ISLAMABAD: The US and Pakistan air force’s conducted a joint air re-fuelling exchange operation on Wednesday at the PAF Base Chaklala.

According to a US Embassy statement, the operation was conducted to enhance defence cooperation and to develop air-refuelling capabilities of both countries. US Air Force pilots and crew from the 22nd Expeditionary Air Refuelling Squadron, deployed at the Transit Centre at Manas, Kyrgyzstan arrived at PAF Chaklala to conduct the operation with the PAF and invited PAF pilots and crew aboard their KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft to familiarise them with US Air Force air refuelling equipment and procedures. “Events like these promote understanding and enhance our military-to-military relationships and also boost the capability and expertise of both air forces,” said US Navy Vice Admiral LeFever. “In addition, the planned arrival of more F-16s to Pakistan later this year, developing PAF’s air refuelling expertise and increasing its airborne endurance and ability is our objective to help it counter the terrorist threat in Pakistan” he said. Over the last three years, US civilian and security assistance to Pakistan totalled more than $4 billion which includes support for medical aid, school refurbishment, bridge reconstruction, food distribution, agricultural and educational projects, 14 F-16 fighter aircrafts, five fast patrol boats, 115 self-propelled Howitzer field artillery cannons, more than 450 vehicles for Pakistan’s Frontier Corps, hundreds of night vision goggles, day/night scopes, radios and thousands of protective vests and first-aid items for Pakistan’s security forces.

USAF has a surplus of old junk. Why do you think they are having a tanker competition to replace them?

This "old junk" can still perform duties for atleast a decade and some are passed to PAF under the EDA programme it would boost our tanker fleet which currently exists of 4 IL-78 Midas.
So stop trolling!

Stop trolling yourself with PakDef fantasy. The KC-135 airframes are 50 years old. PAF wouldn't be stupid enough to buy them.

The question isn't how old is it, the question is how often does it fly and how available are spares. B-52s are stored at Tinker AFB and hardly flown. KC-135 tankers are the backbone of US operations getting heavy hours every year. The B-52s have a boneyard in the Arizona desert to draw spare parts from hundreds of retired planes. KC-135 has no such source for spares.

Why should somebody be surprised when US gives all the advanced weapons to Pakistan?? Pakistan has been regarded as an ally by the US for decades. So Pakistan does not have much to worry about.

Pakistan is an ally of both US and China, That's why in the 1970's Pakistan acted as a middleman to bring US and China together, and fended off Soviet Union and India.

US and Pakistan are close buddies from the days of cold war. So nobody should be surprised when US is providing new equipments to Pakistan. All these weapons are goining to be used against India whenever there is a conflict.

So it is always better to prepare ourself better and keeping in mind what new equipments Pakistan is getting. That is why I feel MRCA should go to France or EF.

There are nothing to be get alarmed of the fact that Pakistan is getting 26(8+18) F-16 block-50 . We are going to sign for 42 new upgraded SU30MKI. MRCA will eventually start coming by 2014. But we need to fast track our up-gradation program.

First you think PAF is that stupid that it would not have thought about spares & secondly it seems we are certainly going for it, Why would USAF give PAF officials info about it & conduct exercise 'without any purpose'
