Pakistan is planning to purchase a big batch of AK-103 assault rifles manufactured by Russia’s Kalashnikov Corporation, a source in the Pakistani Defense Ministry told TASS at the Eurosatory 2016 defense and security international exhibition.
"Pakistan’s Armed Forces are planning to purchase a big number of AK-103 assault rifles as they can be used in the country’s hot weather conditions," the source said.
According to the source, Pakistan intends to re-equip its Armed Forces with new small arms virtually in full.
"In all, the Pakistani Defense Ministry needs about one million new assault rifles," the source said. The source did not specify the potential proportion of Russian-made automatic rifles.
The 7.62mm AK-103 assault rifle is the most advanced version of the widely-used Kalashnikov AKM automatic rifle.
