Pakistan Air Force is looking to fast track the deal to procure 36 upgraded Dassault Mirage combat fighters from Egypt. Pakistan Air Force is keen to bolster its squadron strength especially now when the tensions are extremely high with India and the country too faces depleting squadron strength, like India.

The negotiations for the deal have almost reached the final stage. The Mirage V aircraft were retired from the service by the Egyptian Air Force and Pakistani Air Force will now induct them into service after extensive refurbishments.

How will the Mirage Jets Boost Pakistans’s Capabilities ::

The Mirage V jets posses helmet-mounted display, effective night strike capabilities and mission pods. Pakistan will be upgrading a few of these aircraft before deploying them into service and making them action-ready.

The Mirage jets are supersonic attack aircrafts developed by the French manufacturing giant – Dassault Aviation. It is capable of carrying lethal and sophisticated weapons which can destroy targets with precision. Mirage V combat fighters have a combat range of 1250 kilometres while they can operate at the maximum speed of 2350 kilometres per hour.

Gabon and Pakistan are the only current operators of these aircraft while other users have retired these aircraft from service. Pakistan Air Force currently uses the Mirage 5PA, Mirage 5PA2 and Mirage 5PA3 versions of the aircraft.

Meanwhile, India is all set to receive the first batch of sophisticated Rafale jets from Dassault Aviation. Just like Pakistan, even India is keen to build on its squadron strength amid deteriorating situation between India-Pakistan.

However, the Mirage aircrafts are no match to the Rafale Jets. The Rafale planes have been specifically customized as per the Indian requirements and are considered 4.5 generation fighter jets. Rafales are nuclear-capable aircrafts and are believed to be equipped with semi-stealth technology and considered the most sophisticated fighter aircraft in Asia.

So Pakistan prefers 45 year old Egypt mirage V as a strike platform over jf17.
And some people think j20 is a threat.

Going by this I can assume in future Pakistan will be willing to buy 40 year old second hand rafale from Egypt over Chinese j20 based sino pork stealth fighter. Lol.

Why are we even comparing it with Rafale? Mirage 2000 and Mig 29 are more than enough. And let's not even mention Su 30 MKI

That mirage v is just an attack aircraft and lca can shoot it down without fuss. It will have to come escorted by jf17 which don't even have bvr capabilities. It will be turkey shoot.

Perhaps the pakis have some upgrade package for the mirage V's, that will make it BVR capable

Our mig21 and 27 are very young compared to proky mirages.
But unreliable and accident prone, European equipment are always better in terms of reliability and build quality. Never underestimate your enemy and turn a blind eye to your own military's shortfalls or you will wake up to a disaster. We can't keep losing our brave pilots in those soviet era flying coffins, even our frontline fighters lack decent BVR missiles.

Yes we need to replace them fast. But paki planes are even older and other than f16 no paki plane has bvr capabilities.

These don't seem functional and may need to be rebuilt? Which will take time.
Also India could possibly ask France to delays parts leaving them inoperable
Like most paki planes Another discounted warplane for the Hindu converted muslims
To project any capability big yawn

Pakistan is buying 36 Mirage 5 for the same reason that we were gifted 20 odd old Jaguars by France. Those are to be cannibalised for spares.
In case of Pakistan, few of the 36 after update ( ROSE iii or iv??) might replace few of the oldest mirage 5 in their inventory.
It's unlikely that this purchase will significantly increase the mirage 5 inventory of Pak. Although, it may improve availability as I believe fewer Mirage 5's are operationally available than what is posted in Wiki.

Pakistan To Buy 36 Mirage-V Fighter Jets from Egypt Amid Build-Up With India
New Delhi: The Mirage-V in question possesses a helmet-mounted display, mission pods, and night strike capability. Sources said Pakistan would upgrade these jets before putting a few of them into operation.

Pakistan's Air Force is expected to seal a contract with Egypt to purchase upgraded Dassault Mirage-V combat aircraft. The two countries have been negotiating the contract for years and now the final contract may see the light of day because the Pakistan Air Force wanted these fighter jets to strengthen its existing squadron of jets.

"Negotiations to purchase 36 such aircraft almost reached the final stage", one of the person familiar with the negotiations said. These jets were retired from service by the Egyptian Air Force long ago, so Pakistan will have tp refurbish them before pressing the aircraft into service.

The Mirage-V in question possesses a helmet-mounted display, mission pods, and night strike capability. Sources said Pakistan would upgrade these jets before putting a few of them into operation, like in the past when it has upgraded dozens of Mirage-III/Vs with Italian radars and other electronics at the Mirage Rebuild Factory, established by the Pakistani Air Force in 1978.

Pakistan's Air Force has been operating Mirage combat jets for the last five decades and despite the induction of the JF-17, the force planned to put on hold the retirement of the Mirage in the absence of better weaponry. Over the past five decades, Pakistan has purchased nearly 150 Mirage III/V fighters. The force had in the past also bought retired Mirage-III from Australia.

The Mirage-V is a dedicated ground-attack variant of the Mirage-III, with greater space for fuel, in place of avionics. The Dassault-made Mirage jet received major attention earlier in February when the Indian Air Force carried out an aerial strike using the Mirage-2000 fighter jet to destroy alleged terror infrastructure in Balakot inside Pakistan. Nevertheless, the only common feature of the Mirage-V and the Indian Air Force's Mirage-2000 is their "delta wing" design.

The relationship between the two nuclear-armed countries once again nosedived in August after New Delhi decided to revoke the special status granted to the disputed Kashmir region. While India called the decision an "internal affair", Pakistan has argued at several international fora including at United Nations that it is a violation of bilateral agreements and the Vienna Convention.

Pakistan's military has vowed to go to "any extent" to provide justice to the Kashmiri people and it has deployed hundreds of elite commandos near the Line of Control - a de facto border that separates the Kashmir region between the two countries. The Pakistani Air Force also deployed its frontline jets at the forward air base Skardu near Ladakh last month to ward off any Balakot-like strike by India.
