New drone strike kills 5 in North Waziristan – The Express Tribune

MIRANSHAH: A fresh drone strike killed five people in North Waziristan on Friday, Express News reported.

Two missiles were fired on a house in Danda Darpakhel Miranshah, causing a fiery explosion that took several lives.

Casualties are expected to rise further.

This is the second drone attack in two days, after Thursday's strike killed three people in Miranshah bazaar.

The attack comes against the backdrop of a political scenario rife with fresh tensions and controversies over the Pakistani state's role in these US attacks.

Hours after Thursday's drone attack, an agitated Imran Khan had stated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would put a stop to NATO supplies if a drone attack is conducted during the Taliban peace talks.

A day earlier, US Congressman Alan Grayson had said that if Pakistan wanted, drone strikes "could end tomorrow", indicating that the strikes could not occur without Pakistan's approval.

Pretty significant also because Americans only target Afghan Taliban.

They also killed Baitullah Mehsud. I have no idea how they decide who is worthy of "getting droned", but if that were the case Mullah Omar and his shura wouldn't be living in luxury in Quetta.

Hakimullah Mehsud Dead? Leader Of Pakistan Taliban Killed In Drone Strike

A U.S. drone strike in Pakistan killed the head of the Pakistani Taliban on Friday, security sources told Reuters, the latest in a series of blows to Pakistan's most feared militant group.

Hakimullah Mehsud has been reported dead several times before. But late on Friday, several intelligence, army and militant sources across the country confirmed he had been killed in the strike in the lawless North Waziristan region.

"We can confirm Hakimullah Mehsud was killed in the drone strike," said one senior security official.

Some info on hakimullah mehsud

Hakimullah Mehsud - Wiki
born in 1979 as Jamshed Mehsud and also known as Zulfiqar Mehsud is the leader of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).He was deputy to commander Baitullah Mehsud and one of the leaders of the militant group Fedayeen al-Islam prior to the elder Mehsud's death in a CIA drone missile strike.

On November 2, 2009 Pakistani authorities offered a Rs50 million ($600,000) reward for information that leads to the capture or killing of Hakimullah Mehsud. On September 1, 2010 the United States added the militant leader to its list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists and the TTP to its list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations. The FBI posted a reward of $5,000,000 US Dollars for information leading to his capture.

Paki govt condemn killing of mehsud
The Government of Pakistan strongly condemns the US drone strike that took place in North Waziristan on Friday evening, 01 November 2013. These strikes are a violation of Pakistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity.:rofl::laugh::laugh::rofl: There is an across the board consensus in Pakistan that these drone strikes must end.

The Government of Pakistan has consistently maintained that drone strikes are counter-productive, entail loss of innocent civilian lives and have human rights and humanitarian implications. Such strikes also set dangerous precedents in the inter-state relations.

These drone strikes have a negative impact on the mutual desire of both countries to forge a cordial and cooperative relationship and to ensure peace and stability in the region.

Source
A drone strike targeting a vehicle used by Pakistani Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud has killed five people, intelligence sources say.

Four missiles were fired on the vehicle in the Dande Darpa Khel area of North Waziristan. Two of Mehsud's bodyguards were reportedly among the dead.

Mr Sharif had pledged to talk with the Taliban to try to end its campaign of violence, which has left thousands dead in bombings and shootings across the country.

In an interview with the BBC two weeks ago, Mehsud said he was open to "serious talks" with the government but said he had not yet been approached.
So the "talks" bit (post #13) might have been true then.

@Blackwater @datguy79

Certainly good for india, if at all ttp had consolidated pakistan, their natural and next target would be bharat. Though one would have wanted him to inflict more pain on pakis before he was killed.

WRT he being found in pakistan, he is a pakistani where else will he be??

Also is Imran khan saying that talks were to held soon with govt, hence to sabotage the talks mehsud might have killed. Then this might make perfect sense, as paki army badly wants yankee $$$$ hence they need to play the "good guy" with ttp being the "bad guy". So what if low ranking soldiers are being killed, as long as generals get their $$$ everythings fine for them.
