RAWALPINDI: Pakistan on Tuesday conducted a successful Flight Test of the indigenously developed Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM) “Ra’ad”.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) wing of the Pakistan Army handout, the Ra’ad ALCM, with a range of 350 kilometers enables Pakistan to achieve air delivered strategic standoff capability on land and at sea.

The state of the art Ra’ad ALCM is equipped with highly advanced guidance and navigation system that ensures engagement of targets with pin point accuracy.

The terrain hugging low level flight maneuvers enable it to avoid detection and engagement by contemporary air defence systems President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan have congratulated the Scientists and Engineers for their outstanding achievement on the conduct of a successful flight test of “Ra’ad”.

Director General Strategic Plans Division, Lieutenant General MazharJamil, congratulated the Scientists and Engineers on achieving yet another milestone of historic significance. He termed it a major step towards complementing Pakistan’s deterrence capability. Achievement of this milestone will surely enhance strategic stability and contribute to peace in the region.

He appreciated the technical prowess, dedication and commitment of the Scientists and Engineers who contributed significantly to make the launch of the indigenously, developed Ra’ad Missile a success.

He expressed full confidence over the training standards and operational preparedness of strategic forces.

I got it wrong. Nirbhay is not air-launched. In fact India may not have any ALCM.

We do have an air launched version of Bhramos that was tested a couple of months back by our SU30MKI, so that's our ALCM.

The Israeli proprietary name for it is a glide bomb but, it does have a motor for propulsion so technically the Spice 250 is an ALCM. It's this Spice 250 that Pakistan's Ra'ad is analogous to more than the Nirbhay missile. The Pakistani equivalent of Nirbhay is called Babur missile.

Add US supplied Have Nap and Russian KH series though these are mainly Anti Ship CM.

Can you tell me the status of Nirbhay Missile.
It has longer range, higher speed and it will be air, submarine, ship and ground launched. With all platforms, it will add great addition to our toy collection as well as will shut mouths to pakis who say that they have inducted cruise missiles before India.

Sorry you get so many snippy unrelated comments to everything posted about Pakistan, but know that you taking the time to share an opposing view point and the other side of the story is appreciated by many others.

Curious if you think it will see wide spread use, or be used only for very special occasions in limited quantities. I believe a lot of Western military tech is very poor bang for the buck and other nations often follow their strategy blindly at times. Poorer countries have plenty of man power and cheap labor, so what works for the Americans isn't always best for other nations.

Gulf war was a rare case: with the assistance of Iraq weapon suppliers, Iraq air-defence network was already gone even before US pilot get into the battle. But in most of future wars, the situation will be different: pilots will have to face a complete air-defence network which is functioned at 100%. Considering the rocket high cost of a jet and its pilot, it will be a good idea to use cruise missiles to replace bombers as the first wave.
