Pakistan offers port facilities to China

Keen to become a gateway for China's global exports, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has offered the country's port facilities to the communist trading giant.

“Pakistan can be a transit to all trade to and from China. Your strength is our strength and our strength is your strength,” Zardari said during a seminar at Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, a major trading centre.

Pointing out that that from some Chinese cities, it takes over three weeks for the export material to reach the nearest port, Zardari said "his country's ports were nearer than China's own water fronts."

Describing China as the world's "next super power for trade and investment," Zardari on his fourth visit to China asked the Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in his country, the APP reported.

But the route to the ports in Pakistan is not safe. So wonder if china will take the offer.

Maybe Pakistan should give up her sovereignty and become China's southern-most province.

Believe me, it will do wonders for their economy.

They ceded them territory once and that too the one they didn't own. Might as well dobitcwith their own territory.
But economically it's a good offer but one that the Chinese may not be inclined to accept. It's way to dangerous thst country and China will think of that. It's better they face delays and extra costs than face losses in a terrorist infested country. But if all was well there, it's a very sound economic offer.

Routes to Pakistani ports goes from Northern Areas to Punjab and then to Sind and Baluchistan. There is nice motorway from Rotodero Sindh to Gawadar which is quite protected areas.

New dialogues, but the purpose is the same. It means "Please drop something in our begging bowl.".

As far as commenting in this particuler topic is concerned, it seems to me that none of the prudent member have analyzed a key point over here. Pak's prez is offering port facility for securing economic interest with china.

Because giving port facility for Military use is not the job of Pak's prez as he has no control on their armed forces, rather that work is assigned to Pak Army and ISI. In fact, much of that work must be happening secretly, in a similar manner the way terrorist were allowed to use Pak's port facility to launch fidayeen attack on Mumbai.

It's an economic decision. Why will the US react to transfer of goods for export?
Heck they didn't when they transferee nukes and missiles.

Northern Areas are not exactly safe are they? Balochistan, fraught with danger. IPI is not coming for that reason.

The thought of Zardari is good economically, but not implementable. First of all the Chinese will say thanks but no thanks.

If Karachi port will be used for the purpose of goods transport, I think there would be no problem though there might be overcrowding issues. But if they had to use Gwadar port, things will be difficult because of Baloch struggle and as Zaid Hamid would say Zionists(CIA/Mossad/RAW) will do the needful to disrupt such transport activities. :D

It's not about weapons. It's economics. But even the Chinese won't accept like I said before.

Northern Areas - Meaning the KKH running from Gilgit Agency (totallu safe) to Abbotabad (Totally safe area) From Abbotabad transport will either join the M1 from Buhrhan or join GT Road from Hassanabad ( All areas safe) now they r in Punjab On GT Road they can go to Islamabad Lahore and from Lahore they join Multan Road to Multan and go on to Sindh or they can be on motorway where they can go to Pindi Bhattia and then join M3 to go to Faisalabad and then take Faisalabad Multan road till M4 is completed.
In Sindh they are safe and Karachi is in Sindh. In case they use Gawadar Rotedero Sindh to Gawadar Motorway is in those area of Baluchistan which are not Bugati Areas. You see insurgency is in former Kalat state and not in former British Baluchistan and Makran State. :) :mornin:We r in safe area. BTW these roads are already been used by Afgan transit trade
