Pakistan navy test fires missiles, torpedoes.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday successfully test fired new missiles and torpedoes from ships, submarines and aircraft in the Arabian Sea, the navy announced.
“Pakistan navy fleet today tested its fire power in the north Arabian Sea to assess lethality, precision and efficacy of its weapon system,” it said.
The navy did not disclose range or technical details but said “this included successful firing of a variety of missiles and torpedoes from the ships.”
The tests included anti-surface missiles from an F-22P frigate, acquired recently from China, air-to-surface missiles from P-3C aircraft and sub surface-to-surface missiles from Agosta 90B submarines that originate from France.
“While reassuring Pakistan navy’s commitment of defending the motherland, this strike capability would also send a message of deterrence to anyone harbouring nefarious designs against Pakistan,” the statement said.
South Asian rivals India and Pakistan — which have fought three wars, two of them over the disputed Himalayan territory of Kashmir — routinely carry out missile tests since both demonstrated nuclear weapons capability in 1998.
Last month, India successfully tested a nuclear-capable surface-to-surface Agni-III missile with a range of more than 3,000 kilometres (2,000 miles) from Wheeler Island, off the coast of the eastern state of Orissa.
Pakistan’s arsenal includes short-range, medium and long-range nuclear capable missiles.

hmmmm Nothing much is being told about the tests. I am sure its not any new platform they test fired, just some harpoons or exocets or chinese weapon system test fired to see if they are working out as intended. The Babur was not involved in the test fire, if it was, the trumpet would have been blown! God Speed

Pakistan always talks of defending its motherland against the "nefarious" designs of any country (read India), but it has always been the ones with the dirty ideas. All statements are for domestic consumption which get worked up by anti India rhetoric so that the issues that are of real concern are slid below the carpet.

I would wonder if they tested the Harpoons that they have converted to land attack capability? Obviously they wont say that. Since they are not saying anything about the test makes me put 2x2 into place and think they may have done just that.

In Punjab people fire shots from 12 bore to celebrate or bully neighbors. I think it was just like that. If one see the language of news article one can assume what they are up to. i mean if you are testing it means you were uncertain and want to enhance your capabilities after R&D. Firing your borrowed stock pile doest mean testing to enhance but just firing for fun practise and intimidate/ provoke.

well i was waiting to se if there was anything special to these tests, But they seem to be the standard fair to make tit seem as though Pakistan military is actually up to something.

Lets consider the number of missile tests India has, How many of them are brand new missiles and technologies. and we aer doing those very regularly now at days. While we are progressing our Indigenous missile development like constantly and rapidly.
Pakistan cant look like its standing still. Its a show.

If harpoon has been converted to a land attack capability it would be a wasted effort the speed of harpoon in .85 mach and speed of Babur is .8 mach, and if it is true it may be a positive if it means we can also alter weapons we buy from USA; it can be a positive for us to have this as an excuse.

What difference does it make as to why they did all these tests. What's important from indian view was if any IN snooping ships were around to get a clue on what was going on?

Pakistan Navy test fires missiles in Arabian Sea manoeuvres

Says the exercise was a message to “nefarious” forces

In this handout picture released by the Pakistan Navy, a target ship is hit by a missile during a naval firepower test conducted by the Pakistan Navy in the north Arabian Sea on Friday.

Islamabad: The Pakistan Navy on Friday fired a variety of missiles and torpedoes from warships, submarines and aircraft in an intensive firepower drill in the north Arabian Sea. It said the exercise was a message to “nefarious” forces, an apparent reference to India.

“While [giving a reassurance about the] Pakistan Navy's commitment to defending the motherland, this strike capability would also send a message of deterrence to anyone harbouring nefarious designs against Pakistan,” a Navy statement said after the manoeuvres.

The manoeuvres were aimed at assessing the lethality, precision and efficacy of weapon systems, the statement said.

Newly-inducted weapons systems, including anti-surface missiles on Chinese-made F-22 P frigates and air-to-surface missiles of the P3C maritime surveillance aircraft were among those tested.

An important feature of the drill was the firing of subsurface-to-surface missiles by Agosta 90B submarines.

“The target set was successfully engaged,” the statement said.

Naval Chief Admiral Noman Bashir, who witnessed the event, expressed satisfaction at the operational readiness of the Pakistan Navy fleet, and commended officers and men for their commitment and professionalism.

The weapon firing zone, spread over hundreds of miles, was cleared of all merchant ships and fishing craft during a special operation to ensure the safe conduct of the drill. The missiles fired included the French-acquired SM 39 surface-to-surface missiles, and the AM 39 air launched version of the same missile.

The naval exercise comes after Pakistan reportedly recently acquired 120 Chinese C802 long-range anti-ship cruise missiles to counter the Indian Navy's BrahMos missiles.

I like this statement. it reminds me of the india testing agni-3 with nuclear capable and the indian newspaper directly point to China as the potential target e.g the missile can reach Shanghai and beijing etc. But the reality is CHina does not care india at all.

And i would like to quote the first two lines " India always talks of defending its motherland against the "nefarious" designs of any country (read CHina), but it has always been the ones with the dirty ideas. All statements are for domestic consumption which get worked up by anti CHina rhetoric so that the issues that are of real concern are slid below the carpet.

There is a video on BBC.

Seems like all exercise was limited to firing of only one missile.

the NYT is seriosuly funny when it comes to 'unnamed sources', the only named source that was there in that harpoon modification article said this...

Robert Hewson, editor of Jane’s Air-Launched Weapons, a yearbook and Web-based data service, said the Harpoon missile did not have the necessary range for a land-attack missile, which would lend credibility to Pakistani claims that they are developing their own new missile. Moreover, he said, Pakistan already has more modern land-attack missiles that it developed itself or acquired from China.

“They’re beyond the need to reverse-engineer old U.S. kit,” Mr. Hewson said in a telephone interview. “They’re more sophisticated than that.” Mr. Hewson said the ship-to-shore missile that Pakistan was testing was part of a concerted effort to develop an array of conventional missiles that could be fired from the air, land or sea to address India’s much more formidable conventional missile arsenal.
No modifications happened, PN has repeatedly said that Americans can inspect them

Pakistan has agreed to hold inspection of US-made Harpoon missiles

WASHINGTON: Pakistan has agreed to hold inspection of US-made Harpoon missiles in its arsenal to dispel allegations that it has modified them to target India, says a senior American official.

‘We have raised the issue with the Pakistani government. The (Pakistan) government has responded with an agreement in principle for mutually agreed inspections,’ US Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs P.J. Crowley told reporters.

‘This is something that we take very seriously … in this particular case, we have some concerns,’ he added.

Between 1985 and 1988 the Ronald Reagan administration delivered 165 Harpoon missiles to Pakistan.

Earlier this week, The New York Times reported that Pakistan had modified the anti-ship missile to enhance its striking capabilities against India. The report also accused Pakistan of modifying US-made P-3 surveillance aircraft.

Pakistan has rejected the report as ‘totally inaccurate’, urging the US media to focus on helping Pakistan to fight the common enemy of terrorism instead of making false allegations.

Also at the State Department, spokesman Ian Kelly told a briefing that the Obama administration recently negotiated an agreement with Pakistan to deal with such disputes.

‘We take these allegations very seriously. We have engaged the government of Pakistan at the highest levels,’ he added.

‘We recently negotiated an agreement in principle to establish mutually agreed inspections to address possible modifications to any arms that we’ve transferred, and we’ve notified Congress of potential violations of obligations entered in pursuant to the Arms Control Export Control Act to ensure that key leaders are provided information on US efforts to address them.’

Viola, here it is...

I never noticed how high the trajectory was for the C-802 before. Must be pretty easy to shoot down at range.
