KABUL: (AIP): The National Directorate of Security (NDS) Chief, Rehmatullah Nabil has said that a key Taliban commander, Muhammad Ismail, and his 25 companions had been killed in Pakistan because they wanted to enter into peace talks with the Afghan government. This he said while addressing the Mesharano Jirga, upper house of Afghanistan's parliament, on Tuesday (May 01). He maintained the Taliban leader and his companions wanted to hold peace talks with the Afghan government and were on their way to the airport in Quetta, Balochistan, Pakistan. All of them were killed, he added. Recently, some reports said the Afghan Taliban have arrested Mullah Muhammad Ismail and is being interrogated. However, chairman of the Kandahar council of clerics, Mullah Tor Jan, who recently joined the peace drive, said Tuesday he had factual information that Mullah Muhammad Ismail and his companions had been killed in Quetta a week ago.

Meanwhile, the Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid rejected the reports as baseless. "The Islamic Emirate strongly rejects such propagandas. These are propagandas of the invading enemy and its supporters. The reports that Mullah Muhammad Ismail and his 25 companions were killed in a neighbouring country are baseless rumours. Mullah Muhammad Ismail is alive and enjoying good health," a press release issued by the Taliban, available with the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP), stated. Mujahid, however, did not say whether Mullah Muhammad Ismail has been held by the Taliban. Recent reports suggest the Taliban have arrested Mullah Muhammad Ismail, a Taliban commander in Ghazni province, because he was holding talks with the Afghan government. A renowned daily newspaper of Pakistan, on behalf of Pakistani officials, on Tuesday rejected the reports that Mullah Muhammad Ismail and his companions have been killed in Pakistan.

Afghan Security Official Says Senior Taliban Member Killed For Seeking Peace Talks

KABUL -- Afghanistan's security chief has announced that a top-ranking member of the Afghan Taliban has been captured and killed in Pakistan along with 25 other militia members for seeking to resume peace talks.

Radio Free Afghanistan reports that Rahmatullah Nabil, the head of Afghanistan's National Security Directorate, told the Afghan Senate on May 1 that Mullah Ismail, the deputy head of the Afghan Taliban's military council, had been killed.

Nabil suggested fellow Taliban members were to blame for the killings, which also targeted senior Taliban commander Ustad Yasir, among others.

The above and the original article say that Mullah Ismail and others were killed in Pakistan, not that they were killed by Pakistanis. Big difference. In fact, nothing so far supports the wording of the title of this thread or this wording added by ejazr:

Well my comment is certainly speculation. But if you go back 2 yeasr or so, Mullah Barader was arrested by Pakistani Security Forces just as there were hints that he was leading peace talks with Karzai

There was again suspicion towards Quetta/Pakistan when the head of the Afghan peace council - Burhanuddin Rabbani was assasinated just after his interesting visit to India a month before his assasination

Afghanistan had been seeking help from Pakistan and the United States for security of those Taliban leaders who are outside Afghanistan and want to enter into dialogue with the Karzai's administration.
President Hamid Karzai had told Pakistani political and religious leaders in Islamabad in February this year that Taliban leaders are either killed or arrested whenever they show willingness to negotiate with his government.

When Mullah Baradar, next in the Taliban hierarchy after Mullah Omar, was arrested near the Pakistani port city of Karachi in February 2010, some local media said that he had been involved in talks with the Afghan government. The Taliban had denied the report. The Afghan government and President Karzai had in the past sought access and repatriation of Mullah Baradar, but the demand is believed to have not been accepted.
