Pakistan: Exxon Is Close To Making A Mega Oil Discovery

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/Pakistan-Exxon-Is-Close-To-Making-A-Mega-Oil-Discovery.html

ExxonMobil is close to discovering huge oil reserves in Pakistan near the border with Iran, and those reserves could even be larger than the oil reserves of Kuwait, the Pakistani Minister for Maritime Affairs and Foreign Affairs, Abdullah Hussain Haroon, said over the weekend....
Congratulations Pakistan. With this oil reserve larger than Kuwait now Pakistan will be in top 10 oil producers in world. Yeh Imran Khan effect hai, Allah ki meherbani hai, Peerni ke jaadu ka kamaal hai.

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that his country is on the verge of hitting a kind of jackpot in the form of discovering a huge reserve of oil and gas in the Arabian Sea.

He hopes that the discovery will solve the economic problems of the cash-strapped country.

The offshore drilling for oil was in final stages and there could be a major find, he added.

"I implore that we all pray that Pakistan gets this natural resource in substantial quantity. Our hopes and expectations from the offshore drilling being carried out by the ExxonMobil-led consortium prove to be true," he said on Thursday.

"There's already been a delay of about three weeks, but if the indications we are getting from the companies are anything to go by, there's a strong possibility that we may discover a very big reserve in our waters. And if that happens, Pakistan will altogether be in a different league," Mr Khan said.

In an informal chat with a group of newspaper editors and other senior journalists, Khan did not share details of the offshore drilling process. And there has been no official word from ExxonMobil and the international oil exploration company ENI which have been involved since January in drilling an ultra-deep well (230km inside the sea) for oil in what is known as Kekra-1 area.

Italy's ENI and US oil major Exxon Mobil are jointly drilling for gas offshore in Pakistan's Arabian Sea. Many other Western companies have left more than a decade ago because of Islamist militant violence.

ExxonMobil returned to Pakistan after nearly a decade after surveys were carried out last year suggesting the possibility of big oil reserves within the Pakistani waters.

Talking about various challenges his government was confronted with, Mr Khan said that bringing about economic stability remained his biggest challenge.

When he took charge, the foreign reserves were extremely low and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was putting extremely tough conditions, like "asking us to allow free floating of the rupee", he added.

Mr Khan said that with the help of friendly countries like the UAE, China and particularly Saudi Arabia, the government managed to improve the situation. Now, he said, even the IMF had relaxed its terms and things were moving in the right direction.

COMMENT
Pakistan has received $1 billion each from Saudi Arabia and the UAE, as part of the bailout packages by the two Gulf nations to help shore up Islamabad's dwindling foreign currency reserves.

Paki bullstory.

I’m in the oil and gas sector. Such news would light up the oil and gas industry, but as of now, besides Pakis claiming it, I don’t see any of the oil experts publishing this.

They are still a long way from assessing the site (yet to test the samples for hydrocarbon) - but pakis are counting their eggs before it hatches.

even if the news is true, it will take atleast 4 years to develop a deep sea oil and gas field . and all of us know what will happen to deep sea fields in 2023.

"EV penetration into the global auto fleet should initiate an oil glut by 2023. Shale oil (high extraction cost) operations should become stressed first."

https://seekingalpha.com/article/4225153-evs-oil-ice-impact-2023-beyond

further even if they manage to operate such field ,

These fields are not designed to absorb any external attack on the assets.

One oil spill and Pakistani fisheries will be destroyed for the long time to come. Economic damage will be multipronged.

Reliance industries has expertise in deep sea oil drilling. Can't Reliance set up its rigs near Gujrat sea? How far is this region from Gujrat waters? Our navy can defend such assets if we start working in the region. If we can tap that has from our rig, we can have an asset.

Nobody other than pakis are hyper on it.
its the same hallucination by pakis...
Lets wait for a few more months...years..before any sort of confirmation on it comes in

Secondly...a lot of "good" "prosperous" economy news is doing rounds in pakistan media these days and I am wondering what the heck are they trying to cover up.

Too far , directional drilling has limits. We cannot steal oil and gas this deep in their territory. In SCS such stealing of resources do happen. We can steal resources in Sir Creek. But again bombing such asset is easy.

It seems like prosperity drama is to hide billions they are getting from the middle east by selling nuclear weapons. They can't tell the world that they sold nuclear weapons. So this prosperity drama to cover up.

What if there is a large oil reserve there? Bigger than Kuwait? Problems for India
Depends on what happens to Pakistan in next few months.

If Pakistan is left in its present form: it is problem for India because stable and prosperous Pakistan/Terroristan is NOT in intetest of national security of India.

If Kashmir problem gets solved (i.e.strategically important occupied Indian territory recovered thus fulfilling constitutional duty of government and partial population exchange for those in Kashmir who dont want to be Indian citizens; and what is now Pakistan is reorganized): then it is good news because it will be helpful for reconstruction and development of post-Pakistan states like Sindhudesh and secular Balochistan; and stable and prosperous neghbourhood IS in interest of national security of India.

If the rumours being discussed in the other thread about mini war are true, and let us hope they are true, then it could be indicating Modiji and Dovalji are taking correct steps to make the later happen.

Anyway this news is probably just a bluff/ wishful thinking.

pakistan can never be prosperous.
a lot depends on the MINDSET to guide a nation to progress
NO ONE in pakistan is capable of doing any magic ..nor they have any TRUE organizational support other than the JIHADI support to work the politics perfectly into the mainstream for the progress.

The pak army who is leaching the pakistan economy WILL NEVER let anyone come any close to economic progress..

The report says it is close to the border with Iran. Why not make Balochistan achieve independence instead of exposing oil rigs to Pakistan Navy?

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday announced Asia’s largest oil and gas reserves may soon been found in Karachi’s offshore waters, Express News reported.

In a talk with journalists, the premier said there have been positive indicators in the exploration process and the nation would likely be hearing major news on this front within the next three weeks.

He urged the nation to pray for the success of the exploration efforts and said the development could bring about a massive change in Pakistan’s fortunes.

Still no international news source or oil and gas experts confirming this news.

The Pakis are already jumping and imagining themselves as future sheikhs lol.

We will know in 3 weeks if anything actually turns out - though indications are showing that there is something, just the size of the reserves are up for guess.
