ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday expressed grave concern at the plight of the minority Muslim community in Myanmar, which has been facing extreme human rights violation at home resulting in flocks taking to the Andaman Sea to escape.

Editorial: Rohingya tragedy.

“The current displacement of a large number of Muslims, who are adrift on boats in the Indian Ocean, without access to food and drinking water, is worrisome,” FO spokesman Qazi Khalilullah said.

A draft resolution has also been prepared with support of Pakistan, which will be tabled in the OIC foreign ministers meeting starting from tomorrow in Kuwait, said the spokesman.

Khalilullah said a resolution titled “The Situation of the Muslim Community in Myanmar” urges Myanmar’s authorities to take all necessary measures to restore stability and launch a comprehensive reconciliation process in Rakhine state.

The spokesman said Pakistan strongly believes that peaceful coexistence of all communities in Myanmar— with provision of fundamental rights like citizenship, freedom to practice religion, education and security— is essential to peace, progress and prosperity of the country.

Plight of the Rohingya people
In recent years, sectarian violence and a thicket of discriminatory laws against the Rohingya in Buddhist-majority Myanmar have sparked the region’s largest exodus of boat-people since the Vietnam War.

More than 25,000 people, including many Rohingya but also economic migrants from Bangladesh, made the dangerous sea journey south from the Bay of Bengal between January and March this year, the UN says.

An estimated 1.3 million Rohingya scratch out an existence in Rakhine, one of Myanmar’s poorest states — tens of thousands are trapped in displacement camps, with conditions outside often worse.

The international community shall exercize more pressure on the Burmese junta who has denied citizenship to Rohingyas and given a free hand to Buddhist extremism. It's the source of all the woes.

the onus is on Burmese regime , NOT on anybody else either Pakistan or Malaysia or Thailand, to give Rohingyas what they're entitled to as Myanmar citizens, hence put an end to the boat people exodus that's shifting pressure to neighbors.

if it has anything to do with religion, bigotry with any veneer is equally disgusting.

I have not heard from the Pakistani leadership on the activities of Boko Haram or the outfit in Somalia.

selective selection of issues will always be treated with disdain and utter contempt it deserves.

Lesser said about the activities of PRC in Sudan.

Or, let PRC lead by example and take them in as their venerable guests. Do we not have enough lip service already?

Would you like to suggest this to the Hindus and the Christians living in Pakistan?
Not at all, I would suggest Hindus to come to India for good to live a respectable life.

As far as Christians is concerned there are many western countries who can take those few thousand.

As far a Rohingya Muslims are concerned, they are in capable of living with Non Muslims Budhists there, they have been doing all un lawful activities there where ever they were in majority areas... So either they leave the coiuntry and stay in a Islamic country or convert to local religion ... these very Muslims did converted not too distant future...

I have not heard from the Pakistani leadership on the activities of Boko Haram or the outfit in Somalia. -- its a universally afflicting syndrome, not just with the pakis; "save palestine!", but "meh syria/iraq/afghanistan/yemen/somalia/sudan!"......as someone had once very aptly said, its only where/when the kafirs hit back these sunni extremists that we get to hear such calls.
selective selection of issues will always be treated with disdain and utter contempt it deserves. -- deserves - yes; always treated - sadly, no....dhimmitude rules!
Lesser said about the activities of PRC in Sudan.... -- and NE India

Why should they leave, is Pakistan a muslim land gifted to them by Allah/prophet?

Why should non muslims leave who have more right to call the land as their home than muslims themselves?

Thats not a correct question at all- Hindus of Pakistan dont have to convert since Indians are willing to take them in. Is that so for Muslims of Myanmar? Even their own muslim brother hood is not willing to accept them. So let them convert or let them rot

Why does Pakistan not offer to take in these displaced boat people. Thakedari cannot be mere lip service and their Godfather can finance such missions.
They might take a few and use them as a fodder/fuel in the Terrorism Factories they run across Pakistan.

btw... I am very concerned about the plight of Muslims in Pakistan since they are getting butchered by Pakis.About 60,000+ Muslims butchered.Pakistan is officially the Butcher of Muslims.

Some country should liberate Muslims of Pakis who are oppressed and not safe.I am not even counting Non-Muslims since they are "Kafirs".

Not really, the Rohingyas themselves believe they are migrants from far away land and refuse to integrate, so the onus is not Burmese regime which itself is suffering from international sanctions.
This could have been solved by their integration into neighboring Bangladesh, but the problem is that Rohingyas tend to supporters of pro-Pakistani Jamati Islamists and so obviously ruling party would be unwilling to take them in.

I wrote similar thing on Pakistani forum :

Both Rohingyas as well as Urdu speakers in Bangladesh are stranded east Pakistanis. Pakistan was created for them. No need to differentiate between two. Both have natural birthright to settle in Pakistan. Pakistan government must immediately arrange their immigration to Pakistan. Otherwise Pakistanis are solely responsible for their sufferings.

Also Rohingyas are claimed to be arab migrants, and also Arab nations are relatively economically prosperous among muslim ummah, so it is moral responsibility of arab nations to finance their safe travel and settlement in Pakistan. They also have moral responsibility towards this humanitarian crisis. In my estimate for all of them it would probably need less than 2-4 billion dollars, which is peanuts for Arab countries.
Surprisingly, no one objected to it. It seems many Pakistanis are indeed favourable towards this option.

I wonder what would be a problem if they convert back to who they were originally. There are no Moguls today from whom they have to fear.

btw Buddhism is a great religion and good choice for Rohingyas.

Oh really  ... why would Argentina or Peru or Ghana or Penguins put pressure on Burma and not China? China shares a large border with Burma in case you forgot the geography of your own country.

China should take the lead and show it's the regional power. Are you scared that Burma would be angry if you try to put pressure on them?

Why not you take Rohingyas and assimilate them in Beijing and 1 family in your home at least?

It seems Saudi Arabia has given long term visa to a large number of Rohingyas who are already residing there :

http://www.arabnews.com/news/718891

Four million Burmese residents in the Kingdom are now entitled to obtain an ‘iqama,’ turning many of their dreams of long-term residence and stability in the Kingdom into a reality.
Sheikh of the Burmese community in Makkah, Abu Alshamaa Abdulmajeed, said a large number of Burmese citizens have been living in the Kingdom for more than 70 years, arriving here as a result of injustice and torture against Muslims at the hands of their former governments and various extremist groups.
The sheikh praised the role of the Saudi government in assisting the Burmese community and supporting them as they resettled in the Kingdom. He said that the recent status correction decision issued by Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, which calls for the granting of free Iqamas to members of the Burmese community, has now solved a plethora of logistical problems for many members of the community, and will serve to facilitate their freedom of movement and permanent residence.
“Additionally, due to this new government move, students who are studying in schools run by charitable organizations will now have the opportunity to study in public schools from the primary to secondary stages,” he added.
Abdulmajeed said, “The dream of returning to Burma has faded from the hearts of members of the community due to a lack of passports, especially as the Pakistani and Bangladeshi embassies have refused to grant them passports. The fear of prosecution and torture against Muslims also makes this dream impossible at this time.”

So far, 170,000 iqamas have been granted to Burmese.
The number four million is obviously wrong, there are not even that many total number of Rohingyas on earth. Point is, Arabs, at least Saudis are also sympathetic towards them, to the extent that they are willing to integrate some of them into Saudi society.

From above, it seems this issue can be solved,

- Saudi Arabs are willing to help Rohingyas and even take some of them in their countries. Arabs anyway need cheap labourers and Rohingyas will be ideal candidates as they will be totally loyal to the saudi arabia, coming without any baggage and allegiance to their original country.

- Pakistan can accomodate majority of them. They are not a very large number. Barely over a million. So no danger of large scale demographic problem. Many Pakistani citizens are also sympathetic towards them. It would just need few billion dollars which international community can easily arrange and Pakistan would be more than happy to receive few billion dollars in foreign currency.

- Large number of Rohingyas themselves would be eager to go to these lands in hope of better economic opportunity. They probably have some romantic notions about Muslim Ummah and I think would like to move to Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

So international community instead of playing politics and using it as a chance to corner Burma should sit on a table and think of a practical solution. I don't know what UN is doing.

The state of Pakistan was made solely for Muslims of this sub continent where they can practice their religion as they wish... The Rohingya Muslims can migrate there...

Why should non muslims leave who have more right to call the land as their home than muslims themselves?
Becuase Non Muslims are systematically harrassed and forced to convert and there there is no recourse to justice in the land of pure... Has Pakistan repealed the Blasphamy laws ?

It is the Pakistanis who proudly says that we have put a pole into the white part of the Pakistani flag [incidentally the white signifies the minorities]... the message is clear... drive out the infidels and kuffars... who are dirty people by their definition...
