Economic Fallout of Pakistan’s Political Crisis

Should Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif take populist steps like reducing energy prices, Pakistan could go down the same route as Sri Lanka.

Inflation in Pakistan is expected to cross 15 percent by summer and with U.N.’s Food and Agriculture Organization showing record-high food prices through its Food Price Index, which now stands at 159 – the highest since it was formed in 1990 – this will put further upward pressure on food prices in Pakistan. The country is already suffering from a double-digit inflation. Food prices have registered an uptick of 14.5 to 15.5 percent

Furthermore, Pakistan may also face a serious balance of payment (BoP) crisis as the State Bank of Pakistan’s reserves have fallen to a perilous level of $11 billion, which is not enough to even cover one-and-a-half months of imports. The country’s reserves dropped by a whopping $5 billion in one month (of March). Imports are on the rise as highlighted by the fact that 52.2 percent of the recent increase in tax collection came from imports. The country’s trade deficit stands at a concerning $35 billion. With reserves alarmingly low, Pakistan is expected to service liabilities of $2.5 billion in the ongoing quarter alone (April to June). The composition of our reserves is also tenuous with most of it being debt financed. The IMF and China have given Pakistan $6.7 billion and $6 billion. respectively, with the rest of it coming from Saudi Arabia ($2 billion), UAE ($2 billion) and other assets.

Our raa agent, Im the dimm needs to re-instated. He had successfully done what not no other leader could do have done:
1. Burnt all the bridges with sheikhs and Uncle Sam
2. Tanked the economy.

that is not true.

sure all paki PMs are unimpressive except maybe for that old bhutto guy.he might have had some spine and that is why the army killed him as his ambition might interfere with their operations.but even he is like meh.

all other paki civil officials have been downright clowns.the difference is that the seasoned paki official is well versed in whataboutism and knows how to keep his mouth shut and almost on instinct knows all the rhetoric and memetic tricks that can get through the average indian who is not political or average international citizen.they atleast drive away eyes and ire away from their grand objective of destroying india.

the good paki official is one that is so open and foolish and fumbling that he brings more attention to the failures of pakistan and puts a wrench into the well oiled propaganda machine that is the paki society.

in that respects imran unknowingly has become our greatest asset. All the others played very safe in regards to hatred of non muslims and did not bring too much attention even if they were as unimpressive as imran.

so right now the candidates for the best raw operative is imran ,his lieutenants - the science minister(the fat guy),the foul mouth fat guy.in the opposition it is the bhutto boi.i hope the new shariff is stupid too but increasingly he seems like has the sanity to keep his antics hidden.

what is condition of their forex ?? it was dropping na ?
SBP reserves are down to $10.9 B from $16.2B in March. IMO SBP is now in a holding pattern, withdrawing from spending and dearly holding on to the last bits. Forget intervening to support the PKR which is dropping daily - they are not even buying fuel to keep the economy running. They don't want to be called the next Sri Lanka
