Pakistan and Iran will open Russia access to the Indian Ocean

One of the most promising projects of 2018 for our country is the development of meridional tracks, and in particular, the development of Turksib, extended to India and Pakistan.

At the end of December 2017, Pakistani fruit cargo opened a new transport corridor through Russia. Iran ferried a large batch of mandarins from Pakistan to Kazakhstan as part of an initiative that could open a new corridor for the delivery of food products from Southeast Asia to markets not only in Russia but also in Western Europe.

The 350-tonne cargo arrived in the south-eastern Iranian city of Zahedan by train from the Pakistani Quetta and is already on its way to the port city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. Then he will be immersed in ships that will deliver fruit to Russia. The plans include the implementation of tangerines in the Auchan trade network.

Iran plans to use this route for the transit of goods from its southeastern port of Chabahar to Central Asia and Europe, which, in the end, will become a major East-West corridor.

Earlier in December 2017, Iranian President Hasan Ruhani opened the first section of the port of Shahid Behesti in the southeastern port of Chabahar. Chabahar is the only ocean port in Iran, located 645 km south of the city of Zahedan.

According to The All Pakistan Fruit & Vegetable Exporters, Importers & Merchants Association (PFVA), in the long term the countries intend to use this route for the transit of goods from the southeastern port of Chekhbehar to the coast of the Omani Gulf through the territory of Russia and Europe, which, according to the staff of the analytical department of JSC Russian Container Company, could potentially become a significant transit corridor connecting the East with the West, and in the long term – the countries of the Persian Gulf. Thus, the project participants can reach the figure of 700 thousand containers annually by 2020.The value of this corridor is that it will become the key to entering new markets, which will give growth to the economies and welfare of the participating countries. It is also important that thanks to this project, Russia will get access to the Indian Ocean through the Arabian Sea and the ports of Gwadar or Karachi and further to the Strait of Hormuz.

Pakistan is at the crossroads of the East-West and North-South trade corridors, including the new Silk Road project in South Asia. In the future, a megahod – the “Persian Gulf – Bering Strait” railroad – is possible that will cross the Trans-Siberian Railway, Turksib, the Trans-Asian Railway from China to Europe and will secure the Eurasian Union, “summarizes Ivan Grishagin, Director General of JSC Russian Container Company.

How about showing a map of the rail/road routes to Russia from Quetta?
They're probably going to use the same Iran-Russia rail link built by India. North-South Transport corridor.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North–South_Transport_Corridor

This is ours :

Russia is probably planning a shorter one, something like this :

Technically it's in sovereign Iran territory so they can lease it to Pakistan with a transit fee. Even if there is a transport system, what does Pakistan have to offer to the world?

Terrorism!!

Ok, seriously, why in the name of Allah would Russia even think of using the CPEC for reaching the Arabian Sea? The road we've built through Zehadan in Afghanistan and Chabahar in Iran is far shorter!

This is not CPEC. This North-South transport corridor is a trilateral agreement between Russia, Iran and India, whereby each country will construct the roads/rails in their respective countries and allow each other to use it. There's no restriction if any of the country wants to connect other parts of their connectivity with this main route. That's what Russia is probably doing by using their influence over Kazakstan to build an additional shortcut to this route.

This North-South corridor is our own "Desi CPEC", to be precise it's a "Hindu-Jihadi economic corridor" since it connects Mumbai to Iran and then Afghanistan and then Central Asian republics.

India had proposed this route and Chabahar was just one part (and the most popular aspect) of this link but it's a long link. It's being silently built and construction is already completed even in the other nations.

This is the Turkmenistan part of the link : Bereket Railway Station

This is Iran's Astara port in Caspian which is also a part of this project :

Iran has invested 22 million dollars in the port and plan to increase investment by 10% to expand the port. The Current capacity is 600,000 tons but there is plans to increase this to 3 million tons. Commonwealth of Independent States(CIS) are the main producers of grains which will be exported to Africa through Iran Bandar Abbas port. The port will allow Russian goods to reach inland provinces of Iran faster and cheaper. Product from Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan can be sent to India through Iran's Bandar Abbas port which is the fastest way to reach India.
But wait...there's more..

Iranrud (Iran's river) is a plan to build a canal from Caspian sea to Indian Ocean, with two routes, a river through Dasht-e Lut and another canal to lake Urmiaand after that to Persian gulf.[30] The idea of linking the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Sea by a canal was developed already in the late 19th century.[31] In 2016 Russia Today reported that the Russian and Iranian governments were discussing the project, likely to be commissioned by 2020.
This was taken last month during Chabahar inauguration.

Even India is building its own road infrastructure as a side-project inside Afghanistan to augment this main link :

What I meant was the Paki dream of roping in Russia to use the CPEC for accessing the 'warm waters' of the Arabian sea. They've even said that Russia is keen on it! But seeing the fake reports emanating from the Land of the Pure, this should be taken with a bucket full of salt.

Chabahar inauguration was attended by Pakistan's minister for ports and shipping Hasil Khan Bizenjo.

Russia and Iran have already roped in Pakistan for the North-South route, (perhaps China brokered the deal for Pakistan to join Chabahar in exchange for Russia joining CPEC).

Russia can use their part of North South Transit corridor for transit upto Afghanistan and then construct a road from there to connect to the CPEC in Pakistan (fron Kabul to CPEC), bypassing Kashmir, so India is not angered and Russia gets a shorter route and redundancy in case brinkmanship flares up with Iran and India, they can switch loyalties to the Pakistan-China camp. This will allow Russia to step foot in two boats at the same time. The investment is also not much. It will take just 5 -10 million$ to connect from Kabul to CPEC by road, since no port infrastructure or rail network is to be built. This will effectively cut off the US forces from all areas north of Kabul.

The US has camped on that area with the intention of occupying it forever, now regional players are swarming to take control of Afghanistan's fate. Maybe it's not as bad as we anticipate it.

Just today, China has announced that it has signed an arrangement with Afghanistan to build a Chinese military base in Afghanistan to stem the influx of terrorists into Xinjiang. It appears that everyone in the region has understood that the US will do one final Syria-style proxy war in the Af-Pak region to destabilize China, India, Iran and Russia, to prevent the rising powers from becoming too powerful, so everyone is co-operating with each other, under duress of an impending US invasion.

Being a part of an economic corridor is meaningless if a country doesn't have the expertise, industry, or governance to make use of It, to produce and sell it's own products. Basically Pakistan is trying to be just a toll road. Sure, collecting tolls will bring in some money, but nowhere near what's required to improve the lives of 210 million people.

True. They charge 2000$ per truck for the US to transit from Pakistani territory into Afghanistan.

PS : They don't have to or want to improve the lives of 210 million people. As long as the elites in the deep state get rich, they don't mind it at all. Pakistan is the only country where polio exists. They are perfectly fine with it.

The Chinese will be using pakis as pawn for their games, use the same money that pakis are earning to help them buy chinese weapons. So it win win for China. Plus pakis have no other option, they are falling in a debt trap, they can't blackmail the Chinese like they did US. Slowly but surely pakis will be totally a vassal state which will hold key Chinese military bases.

For India this is the biggest threat. Chinese firing over paki shoulders, the pakis would be willingly spread their legs for China as long as their military and politian's coffers are filled. Their awam are fools anyway, they themselves don't care about economic development, or else they would have seriously questioned the nitty gritty of CPEC.

Agreed with what you said. But another angle is that the Chinese will never allow the Pakis to wage war against India as that would pose a huge danger to their massive investments in Pak. They will ensure that any needling by Pak against India will be kept well below the threshold.

So does that give us the advantage of conducting surgical strikes in POK with impunity in the future without a major riposte from Pak? It sure does! In other words the Pakis will never be allowed by the Chinese to escalate whatever the provocation. Thus, their threat of a nuclear full spectrum response is nothing but just bluff and bluster, nothing more, all thanks to the Chinese! What an irony!

An additional advantage is that as far as Pakistan is concerned, we won't need to even talk to Islamabad/Pindi in the future. We can talk directly to Beijing.

What does few surgical strikes achieve for us. Bragging rights?
In the long run Chinese would be in advantage. I am talking about situation in a possible war with China considering the worst case scenario.
Don't forget India needs to get back POK, not status quo. It's of strategic importance for India.

India makes a claim but never have we been vocal. We cannot let pakis settle for just one master, then it becomes easier for them.

I want India to give it back to these chinese with interest what they have given us through these pakis. Surgical strike on pakis is easy, but how do we threaten China for their actions like supporting terrorists against India.

Going to war against China or 'threatening' them is not an option. But we can give it to them where it hurts. What's sauce for the goose should be sauce for the gander. Thus, if they support Pak terrorists against India, we need to do the same and step up support to the ETIM separatists in Xinjiang and drive a big wedge between the Uighurs (fighting for separation / independence from China) and the Han Chinese there and create turmoil. But unfortunately we aren't doing enough on this front.

Brother the problem is we don't have direct border with any of China's troubled regions.
Even America can't do much here they have eliminated all foreign Intellegence in their country.
I think A war with chinese is not an option right now we gotta do our best to secure our home first. There are chinese infiltrators in the NE that needs to be eliminated. In fact I would suggest targeting all ISI and CIA agents here in our home first. US wants to fight their war against China i.e use as sacrificial lambs.

More dangerous than Pakistan we have Chinese encroaching upon Nepal with which we have thousand miles of porus border.
To counter the chinese we need to bring Nepal into our influence first. There are about 40% mashesi people in Nepal that are our biggest asset we need to make sure their rights aren't violated.

Agreed! But that is going to be an up-hill task seeing that the Communists are ruling the roost in Nepal now and are more inclined towards China than us. The Chinese have deep pockets and are buying off the Nepalis too by investing in major projects. Recently, Nepal has joined hands with China to offer internet services to its citizens, ending India’s decades-long monopoly of the Himalayan nation’s cyber connectivity network. Contracts for construction of dams and highways have been signed and they have started discussions to initiate surveys of the Kyirong-Kathmandu railway under the Belt and Road Initiative.

But yes, we need to step up diplomatic efforts which should be ongoing.

Better yet why not let the rabid dog bite its master itself or make sure they do. Ideologically pakis and chinese are at the opposite end of the spectrum, I am pretty sure pakis will themselves be waging jihad on china given if we take proper advantage of such situation.
