" what you are saying is a good talking point for a debate but its not realistically feasible to execute "
Still that doesn't stop us from echoing that sentiment. Don't be too afraid to stand up to the US for your own national security interests. Don't be too afraid to let the US bully you.

Ultimately what is it that paki state wants out of Afghanistan?

apart from the usual case of strategic depth, can an argument be made that paki establishment wants to be the sole representative/facilitator of afghanistan's diplomatic/trade relationship with the west/world?

right now qatar holds that position.

lot of cash to be made as commission fee in USD on narcotics trade that originates out of afghanistan.

I believe, PAK believes in its own false bravado of toppling Soviet Union. But from that time to till now they are more or less a land lender to US and its allies to do operation in AFG. Even US - Taliban meet had been done in Qatar not in Pakistan. They thought they can handle them with old narratives, but Afghans are not interested with them.

Whats happening?

Infighting is likely. Taliban was slaughtering people wholesale (even going as far as killing distant relatives of ex ANA, ISIS and NRF members).
After Mawlawi Mahdi, the much publicized shia hazara commander of the Taliban rebelled against them, they carried out heavy reprisals in the Hazara majority Balkhab as well.

I'd say its fair to assume that this heavy handed approach will, while working in the short term, accumulate a strong hatred for Taliban in the long term among the local populace.
