Pak may buy export variant of China's 1st stealth aircraft

China unveiled its J-20 stealth fighter jet at its biggest air show on Tuesday.

The move will have major implications for India as Pakistan has shown interest in acquiring the first indigenously-made fifth-generation Chinese aircraft. Two J-20 aircraft flew at the Zhuhai city air show where the Pakistan air force's J-17 Thunder jets, which are jointly manufactured with China, are also taking part. Pakistan said that it was in talks with China to buy the FC-31 an export variant of the J-20 aircraft. The J-20 has already created a buzz about its likely deployment on the India-China border though experts said it was unlikely. PTI

So the latest CH-5 combat drones and the FC-31 (J-20) will likely be inducted into the PAF by 2020 or so. However, the J-20 has yet to be tested in combat. No one knows for sure what its actual performance is.

And no one knows the actual cost the Chinese will ask their sweeter than honey friends, Pakistan to pay. They'll probably get a 50% discount! Even then, at approx $30-40 million a pop at discounted rates, it won't be easy for the Pakis to equip even two squadrons with these fighters.

That said, we need to step on the gas where the FGFA is concerned, though I don't think the J-20 can hold a candle to the FGFA. However, the J-20 in the PAF would be a good replacement to the outdated J-7 Chengdu ( a copy of the MiG-21), 186 of which are still in service with the PAF.

Just like their Su-35 Hoax, which was busted by Sputnik here , this is also a bubble that will bust in the coming days, they simply cannot afford to operate even a J-11 leave alone a J-20.

Even if PAF buys or begs J-30 what we have to be concerned of? Future of IAF is clear with FGFA and AMCA.

Though i seriously feel GOI needs to expedite AMCA and may be for this reason they want to solve major issue concerned with AMCA which is engine by indirectly sourcing turbofan technology under TOT obligation concerned with the proposal to by 200 odd single engine fighters.

the Jf 17 cost is said to be @ $ 30-35 million after all discounts & soft loans to pak.
then how can J 31 being a 2 engine be at the same cost ?
F22 & f35 are in $ 150+million a pop
T 50 is $100+million ?

i think @ $70 -80 million a pop after all discounts & soft loans should be more realistic+ infra cost +weapons + etc +++ finally i think 12 J31 will cost $ 3 billion(what pak may be able to afford) ............ running cost will be extra



the west is not ready to share any high tech with pak because ........... it will reach china ...... same way even china knows than any tech sent to pak will reach US(spies r very well placed in pak................ the helos tested in pak .......... & USA has full in depth study ++++ ) .thats y even they r not trusting pak with their high tech.

I don't think the the US will be interested in Chinese tech as it's way behind what they have as also the fact that all these planes are nothing but bad copies of their Russian counterparts, the details of which the US has already got.

It's American tech falling into the hands of the Chinese through Pakistan which poses a danger and thus the Pakis will never get any hi-tech stuff from the West.

Has anybody driven a chini made car like Great Wall or Cherry?
I do not think India should worry too much about Chini tech.
What Cheen will do in a conflict is to put 50 of these uran- tashtaris v/s 1 LCA. Cheen can mass produce these whereas India can produce 8 to 16 LCAs a year

The way things are going in pakiland - full speed downhill economically- pakis have no money to buy and service the j20s. But...
Given that china is investing in CPEC- both in economics and reputation - no doubt the Chinese end game is to make pakiland subservient as a vassal state. Won't happen overnight - the chinese are insidious. And pakis are willing to be played by China. They have no choice. Cpec is their messiah. And the chinese are eagerly looking for foreign bases. With this backdrop, there is a possibility of Chinese military presence in pakiland. Eg a squadron of sino af with j-20s could be parked in sargodha or masroor with a professed objective of protecting Cpec. That would suit pakis immensely - in 1 stroke they could neutralize india's threat. Even if that means pakis groveling at the feet of the chinese. And for the chinese the string of pearls continues. It's win-win for sino-pak.

No doubt its a complex scenario with many chess pieces- but it's a possibility that cannot be ruled out.

Not gonna happen.

a) PLAAF chose J20 over J31, and has no orders.

b) PAF has to fund the entire development program by itself. Even if it's the cheapest stealth fighter out there, development costs + each unit prices are way out of PAF's tiny budget.

c) Even if and that's a big if, PAF somehow manages to get the funds required, the order itself would be too small to make the project feasible, i.e. 36 units (remember the FC20 tamasha). You are talking about a country too broke to assemble the cheapest so called 4th gen in the world. 70 units in 8 years.

The J-20s in Zhuhai only flew for about one minute. They didn't do low passes. They didn't open up the weapons bay. They didn't do much except fly around a single time! Lol!

Chinese avionics – the software-controlled electronic systems which gave modern combat jets their cutting-edge mission capabilities – are believed to be a generation behind their US, European, Israeli and Russian counterparts.

Three words to describe the much touted J-20: It's a lemon!
