Ya'll Nibbiars it name should be Project 18 MoD gives name to the project not programmes. So NGD is dubious. And it's is sactioned but was going slowly now the funding will be made.
What about ngf

No Project name has been accorded yet - in all official communications its been referred to as NGD only (and NGF, NGMV and NGC also there).

This is from MDL itself:

Project-18 is the name & number that are most likely to be accorded, but it could be something different as well, we don't know.

MoD publication for naval indigenisation plan mentioned it as NGD. Project 18 is just a popular perception since its only pending slot for project nomenclature but what if it doesn't happen? Since name NGD is used by same sources undisputedly.

Yet I would change my mind for better argument if can be reasoned out with a better reason? @porky_kicker

Ya'll Nibbiars The next generation of Indian Navy warships will be powered by electrical propulsion systems. Facilities to train naval engineers to operate electric drive ships have been set up ahead of construction programmes for new warships, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command Vice-Admiral Anil Chawla disclosed in an exclusive interview to SP's.

Integrated electric power generation in surface warships has been described as the "direction of future naval propulsion", and this transition would mark a major technological leap. The US and UK have taken an early lead in the adoption of electrical propulsion in the Zumwalt class and Type 45 destroyers respectively, besides the Queen Elizabeth carriers and Type 23 frigates of the Royal Navy.

The new Landing Platform Dock (LPD) amphibious warships will be the first Indian Navy ships fitted with an electrical drive. "More significantly, the Indian Navy envisages electrical propulsion for its next series of destroyers, the P18, and aircraft carriers of the future," sources elaborated. There will be electrical propulsion in some of our future platforms, and accordingly, facilities to train personnel in electrical propulsion have already been set-up," Vice-Admiral Chawla told SP's.

Informed sources revealed to SP's that the new Landing Platform Dock (LPD) amphibious warships will be the first Indian Navy ships fitted with an electrical drive. "More significantly, the Indian Navy envisages electrical propulsion for its next series of destroyers, the P18, and aircraft carriers of the future," sources elaborated.

This next generation of naval propulsion will enable better stealth due to significant noise reduction, lesser fuel requirement, improvement in speed, reduction in environmental risks and an increase in manoeuverability. The shift to electric will open up new avenues for procurement of propulsion systems for the Indian Navy. Warships built in India have traditionally relied upon the Soviet legacy Zorya-Mashproekt gas turbine engines from Ukraine.

SP's has learnt that a 5 MW electric propulsion system has been set up by Siemens of Germany at the onshore training establishment INS Valsura at Jamnagar in Gujarat to familiarise Indian Naval engineers with the technology and train them to operate the system. The shift to electric will open up new avenues for procurement of propulsion systems for the Indian Navy. Warships built in India have traditionally relied upon the Soviet legacy Zorya-Mashproekt gas turbine engines from Ukraine.

Well dont know what to say , after struggling with drdos crazy nomenclature running in multiple names for a single system , i think you guys should be happy you have to contend with 2 names only. And i have no info with regard to NGD / P18 .

Whatever the nomenclature , as long as things get done i have no problem. Already too late

Nibbas, given our budget constraints and dwindling destroyer fleet, it would be ideal to build 5-7 more hulls under Project 15C, with a more streamlined hull, LANZA 3D air search radar.
It should not cost more than $7-8 billion and would give the Indian Navy a fleet of 12-15 modern stealth destroyers.

Seriously ??? where they sleeping when china was building it ?????????????/ now to design and build it'll take 4-5 years while china chunks out more and more powerfull ships
They are 5 times bigger economy than us so they can afford it, we are not.

Most probably navy approached the government earlier too but the proposal for cruiser get rejected, now they are requesting again...let see what happen.

When they were economy equal to us , then too they were building faster , we can't afford number now , so quality should not be compromised , vizag class is heavily under armed , it requires 16 more vls for sam

More like optimally armed. IN, unlike PLAN, concentrates on crew comfort, long range, not making the ship a running matchbox by filling it to the brim with missiles.
VL-SRSAM, which is likely to enter service in the next few years will be retrofitted on the IN warships.
That will increase the VLS count on the Kolkata/Vizag DDG to 64-80 VLS

That's a short range missile with no much benefit , better go for lesser vls but akash ng type missile , and few of quad packed vlsrsam
