Baki announcement on "successfully tested pindigenous SLBM" in 3...2...1...

Seriously though, to me this appears to be a clear diversionary tactic. DFI members let's ask ourselves, what happens when states led by paranoid leadership faces insecurity, loss of control and public resentment? They wish to divert the attention of their people beyond their borders.

We have seen Bakis do this time and time again. How many times have we seen then try and unite their awaam via verbal or terrorist attacks on India?

Their taller than turd friend is not too dissimilar. Everytime there's some internal rumbling, PRC ups the ante in SCS or by making noises over Senkakus or Air defense zone or Nanjing or Yasukuni or Taiwan.

North Korea is no different. The Dear Leader is as insecure and as paranoid as they come. He's shed enough blood to consolidate his hold over the hermit kingdom.

He had his uncle, Jang Song-thaek and his family executed for treason. He had his defence minister executed. All this to command loyalty and instill fear in the Korean People's army, The Korean Worker's Party and the people. It's not just the sticks though, the carrots too have come in the form of relatively relaxed regulations governing private entrepreneurship. The Seventh Party Congress saw new blood being inducted into the party and showered with gifts (that they turned out to be of mediocre quality is different!!). But all of them have been aimed at consolidating his rule.

But recently, he suffered a big blow. North Korea’s deputy ambassador to the UK, Thae Yong Ho, and his family defected to the South. To understand why this is such a big deal, one must understand that in NK everything is governed by your bloodline.

The ruling "Kim" family claims to belong to the Mt. Paetku bloodline. Thae Yong Ho came form a family of guerillas who reportedly fought aside Kim Ill Sung (The first dictator of NK) against the Japanese. Members of this social group are only next to Kim family in status in the NK society. They are present everywhere, in government, in KPA, in workers party. Why? Because they were believed to be utterly loyal and that their destiny was intricately linked with the fate of DPRK and Kim family itself.

Thae Yong Ho's defection is a big big blow. The only thing worse could be if Kim's wife ran off with Jang Dong-gun or worse, Watanabe Ken.

Kim must act. However, extended purges of the past will be difficult (all relatives and family either executed or marched off to labour camps). The 'O' bloodline is powerful and well connected and if they see a purge coming, they may gang up against the Marshall himself.

So what does the Marshall do? He needs to buy time and influence? How does he do that? Conduct a nuke or a missile test. Nuke test was a few months ago and invited sanctions. Now he's showing that not only does he have nukes, but also the means of launching them at his enemies- SoKo and Japan.

He'll negotiate with the international community, rally the troops and workers party and consolidate his position and then go after the Thae Yong Ho situation from a position of relative strength.
