North-east rebels using 'smugglers' in China, Myanmar to buy arms

NEW DELHI: Government on Wednesday said that the insurgent groups in the north-east had been procuring arms through "smugglers" based in China's Yunnan province, Myanmar and south-east Asian countries.

Stating this in the Rajya Sabha, MoS for home affairs Mullappally Ramachandran said the weapons in small consignments were then transported either via Myanmar or Bangladesh to India.

He, in his written response to a Parliament question, said India had raised its concern with China, Myanmar and Bangladesh from time to time through diplomatic channels about the reported smuggling of arms through their territories.

To check smuggling across the Indo-Myanmar border, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between India and Myanmar in January, 1994, for maintenance of peace and tranquility in border areas.

"Central government has stepped up vigilance and surveillance along the border. The security forces along the border have been suitably sensitized regarding arms smuggling by insurgents and regular patrolling along the border areas is being carried out," he said.

I find it amusing that smugglers can carry adequate arms and ammunition to foment, fester and support insurgencies.

This is another canard that is being foisted on the public to overcome their morbid fear of upsetting China.

Is smuggling that easy in China?

If it were how come the diamond traders were arrested and jailed for 'smuggling'?

Total hogwash.

In a totalitarian country like China where one is encouraged to report even on relatives and parents, it is ridiculous to imagine that such nefarious activities of smuggling repeatedly would go unnoticed.

It is being done at the behest of the Chinese Govt, unpleasant that it may appear to those who want to shy away from the truth.

One has to just remember the arms consignment landed at Chittagong with Khaleda Zia's protection through her son for the NE terrorists.

China is, in a big way, hand in glove with our terrorists.

To be fair to China, she is only pursuing her national aim against a blind neighbour who are so petrified that they cannot call a spade a spade!

Can Indian OFB weapons be mass smuggled?
Why get into labyrinths when the CCP is organising funding and weapons delivery to NE insurgents since last 64 yeras. Is there any thing new in it? The only thing new is that the tap has been opened a bit wider now. So whether the chinese weapons come from Myanmar's Yunan, Singapore, Hongkong or Thailand, the source is only one _ China.

The idea is to tell CCP of china that they would find Indian weapons all over the border areas of China including inside Tibet and Xinjiang if they do not stop influx of Chinese weapons into India.

I never realised Chinese are much more scared than Pakistanies.

India must use the same strategy we used during the Punjab insurgency. Indian intel infiltrated into the supply chain and set Karachi on fire by using the same gun-runners and smugglers to push guns and explosives inside Pakistan. In this case Tibet may be a target. Let them get a taste of their own medicine.

Also we can use these smugglers to identify and eliminate the key figures inside those terror organizations. I believe Indian intelligence has already considered this option, and must have been working on it.
